Chapter 155: The Class Choices for Drai’s Second Evolution

Over the following days, Drai focused on training. He mostly trained by himself, making use of the landscape and its features for resistance training, or practicing his combat techniques and maneuvers, which included polishing his utilization of Aspiring Grabber.

At first, Horsie insisted on following him out, so he didn’t have a choice but to bring him along. This affected his training quite a bit, as he had to keep an eye over the foal and couldn’t go crazy with his training.

It was only after Max bribed Horsie with a freshly cooked meal that he decided to stay behind, freeing Drai for the rest of the day. After that, Drai had to wake up earlier to prepare a second breakfast for Horsie, as he didn’t want to burden Max with the task.

His training bore a surprising result quite early. Drai somehow had the idea of applying Aspiring Grabber to his kicks, which, after multiple tries, turned out to be feasible. The only problem was the relatively low success rate—his grab-kicks only worked around twenty percent of the time. After all, Drai wasn’t a monkey, so smoothly picturing himself grabbing with his foot was rather difficult. Regardless, he allocated a decent portion of his daily training to specifically practice this technique, believing that it would become a staple of his fighting style.

Occasionally, Max would spar with him, which provided Drai with the opportunity to implement his fighting techniques, improve his maneuvers, and defend or bear Max’s attacks. He never gained an upper hand during these bouts, of course, since he never used Colossal Augmentation. But still, he felt that he gained more insight and improved faster through these sparring rounds than just battling random creatures.

When Drai wasn’t busy with training, he kept gathering ingredients and essence. He also "fought" any strange or strong-looking creature he encountered along the way, including a group of extremely fast fireflies with which his speed failed to keep up and a slowly-walking giant tortoise that he couldn’t halt at all without transforming.

On a different note, Madeleine’s words proved to be true, as she appeared in the camp one evening and presented them with dozens of cake slices. Although Madeleine said she was testing a new recipe, the cake turned out to be very delicious. Drai and Horsie really enjoyed it, but Max was especially moved, shedding a few tears as he savored the long-forgotten taste.

After a week of training, Drai initiated another essence assimilation. However, just like the last time, it didn’t level him up. And after reflecting on his recent assimilations, he figured his EXP requirement had increased quite a bit, which left him deliberating whether he should stop limiting the amount of essence used for future assimilations. In the end, he decided to increase it for the next assimilation and make further adjustments based on his stat gains after a level-up.

Afterward, Drai continued his routine for a couple more days until he finally received a System notification during training.

[Warning: Evolution is ready. For safety, relocate to a secure area before proceeding, as the process’s duration and effects may vary.]

Reading this, Drai’s eyes glimmered in anticipation. He immediately left his training spot, sprinting away.

Moments later, he arrived at the camp. Max was sitting there, grooming Horsie, who was lazing on the grass. After spending a lot of time together for the past ten days or so, the two had gotten much closer.

"What happened?" Max asked upon noticing Drai’s expression and slight panting.

"I’m ready to evolve. Can you please keep guard?" Drai said as he stabilized his breathing.

"Sure. Just do it in the shed."

"Thanks," Drai replied before walking to the sleeping area. Recalling his first evolution, he figured that lying down on his mattress would probably be better.

But before he lay down, he turned to Max again. "Max, how did you decide on your second class?"

Max pondered briefly before answering. "Pretty sure I just went with my hunch."

Hearing this, Drai became puzzled. "Hunch? So you didn’t think about it at all?"

"Of course I did, but unlike my initial class, my second class options weren’t too different—at least in my eyes. That’s why I ended up picking the one that gave me a good feeling."

Drai fell silent. Max’s words reminded him that his reason for choosing the titan class had also stemmed from a hunch, though Drai was quite certain he had been subconsciously coerced into picking it by the planet-shattering scene he saw prior to that.

"Thanks. I’m gonna start," Drai eventually said before lying down.

"Don’t fret it too much. I’m sure you’ll still be overpowered whatever class you end up choosing," Max added.

Drai sent him an OK sign before returning to the System.

’System, I’m ready. Proceed with the evolution.’

[Are you sure?]

’Yes.’

[Authorization acquired. Before proceeding, please choose your class:]

Drai’s heartbeat rose as he gazed upon the list before him.

[Seedling of Titan – original]

[Seedling of Titan – Scion of Gaia]

[Son of the Elements]

[Chaos Spawn]

’What the hell? There’s a variant for the titan class? But come on—seedling? Can’t you come up with a better sounding name? What’s next, sapling?’

Looking at the latter two options, Drai’s brows furrowed. He had an inkling of what the first one entailed, but for the last one, he had no idea at all. In fact, Drai felt that its name sounded weird—a bit wicked, even.

’Well, there’s no use guessing. Let’s take a look at them first.’

Opening the first option, Drai instantly sighed.

[Class: Seedling of Titan – Original]

[Description: Your journey continues.]

[Traits: Destined for greatness.]

’Yeah, yeah—greatness. Very helpful,’ he silently remarked and immediately closed the class details. He then opened the next one with low expectations.

[Class: Seedling of Titan – Scion of Gaia]

[Description: Your journey continues, but with a twist.]

[Traits: Destined for greatness?]

Although the details were really similar to those before, Drai couldn’t help but mull over it.

’A twist? What kind of twist? Is it just referring to the different features of the variant or is there a hidden meaning? And what’s with the question mark in the traits? Is there something wrong with this class? Hmm... I’m not sure how I feel about this one. It’s pretty sketchy.’

Drai thought about it for another minute, but he still couldn’t understand this option. Putting aside his puzzlement for now, he finally moved on to the next one.

[Class: Son of the Elements]

[Description: Your affinity with nature and exposure to the elements have given rise to a dormant potential within you. Choosing this class will set you forth on an arduous journey to master the universal elements, eventually emerging as a true elemental bender.]

[Traits: Extremely high affinity with nature and natural elements. High elemental power and resistance. Medium aether sensory.]

[Effects:]

[The Transcendence attribute will be converted with a rate of 1:250 into a numerical attribute to store archeia, an energy supply distilled from aether, which can be used to manipulate the elements. The storage’s maximum capacity can be further increased by various means, including level-ups and skills.]

[All acquired and available class skills will be replaced with a new set of skills related to the Son of the Elements class.]

[Physical features tied to the previous class will be replaced accordingly.]

[Current attributes will be redistributed accordingly.]

[Forged destiny will be severed.]

It took Drai a while to read all the details, and by the time he was finished, he had already made up his mind.

’I don’t think I’m picking this one. It’s really interesting, but it’s not really my type. Did I get this because of my time here? I wonder if getting hit by Nero’s spell, the apes’ lightning, and the Sky King’s wind attacks contributed in making this option available too. Hmm... Maybe I could even get a spatial-type class in the future if I travel a lot through Zar’s portals.’

Reading the list of effects, Drai became more certain of his decision.

’The physical features don’t matter much, but I really don’t want to lose Colossal Augmentation. And the attribute redistribution worries me too—what if I end up with tons of int and no strength and constitution? I’ll be like Professor Ravi or Zar then. Hell no. Wait... Considering all these changes, won’t I actually end up weaker than I am now if I pick this class? Yikes.

’But what the hell is aether? Is it like mana? I wonder if anyone I know can sense or utilize it. And pretty sure this ’forged destiny’ thing is related to the titans or their will. In a sense, it will help me avoid whatever nemeses of the titans I might have to face in the future. But there’s no use thinking about it too much—the class just doesn’t suit me and overall seems weaker than the titan line.’

Drai finally closed the class and opened the last one.

Upon reading the details, his eyes instantly widened—what was written there was the most perplexing thing he had ever seen on his System screen.
