Seed of Titan-Chapter 86: The Truth behind Christo’s Warning
Christo put away his cup and said, "Due to my family, I have responsibilities that I’m always carrying on my shoulders. Despite what you all might think of me, I’m actually never free nor at peace. And that’s why I envy you who come from a normal background. You’re a free soul, while I’m chained to my fate."
Christ laid his arms on his lap, opening his palms toward him. He looked at them with mixed feelings.
’If only you knew that the hopes of many people rest on these hands, Drai...’
Meanwhile, Drai looked at his own rough hands and thought that he too was carrying a something: the will of the titans. But unlike Christo, he wasn’t chained by it and was instead hinted to be happy and free.
And although he had witnessed something horrible that seemed to be his future foe, it was not a problem he had to face now, which was different from Christo’s case.
"Thanks for telling me about this, Christo. Although the current me can’t help you, at least now I have another reason to get stronger quickly," Drai said before gulping the rest of his tea.
Christo smiled and picked up Drai’s empty cup, putting it back into his satchel along with his own cup.
Drai looked at their surroundings and saw that everybody had left, perhaps going into hiding or fetching the professors.
Looking at Christo, Drai asked, "Now that you’re done, should we deal with the other two guys?"
"Wait. Before we go, there’s one more thing that I must tell you. After our comms return to normal, make sure to tell your parents to be more careful from now on. Tell them to be wary of strangers," Christo advised, his expression stern.
Drai’s heart skipped a beat upon hearing Christo’s words.
"Why are you saying that, Christo? Is it because I used my skill? Will it really affect my parents?" Drai asked frantically.
Christo didn’t immediately reply. Instead, he closed his eyes and contemplated.
’Liam will probably scold me for this, but it shouldn’t be a big deal since I’m just revealing a tiny bit of information. And even if the probability of danger is small since I’m acting on my hunch, it’s better than keeping Drai in the dark and suffering the consequences if the worst case really comes true.’
Taking a deep breath, Christo opened his eyes and looked at Drai who was still perplexed by his foreboding advice.
"What I’m showing you next is for your eyes only, Drai," he said, glancing around and making sure that there was no one eavesdropping nearby. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
Seeing that it was safe, Christo proceeded to gently pinch his right earlobe. A second later, he grabbed a book that suddenly popped out near his ear.
"Dimensional storage..." Drai muttered, recognizing the item withdrawal process which he was too familiar with.
"Yeah. I never told you about it since I can’t use it to store mundane things," Christo said as he put the book on his lap, not bothering to explain how he got the device or why Drai still couldn’t see it when he was currently squinting hard, inspecting Christo’s ear.
Christo opened the thick book that looked quite old. He carefully turned the worn pages, searching for something.
Sensing Drai’s inquisitive gaze, Christo explained while flipping the pages, "This is my ancestral book. Countless generations of my past family heads had written their notes here. Most of these pages contain their wisdom or secret knowledge, although not all of them are still relevant in the present day. And plenty of them are cryptic, including the one that I’m trying to show you."
Drai nodded as he finally understood what the book meant. It made him wonder why his own ancestors didn’t do the same. He felt that it would be interesting if he could read his ancestors’ notes from decades ago.
Shortly after, Christo finally stopped at a certain page around the latter half of the book.
Christo raised his head and asked, "Do you remember my warning when you told me about your class when we first met?"
Drai nodded. Even after several months had passed, he could still vividly remember that particular conversation.
"Although I would probably still advise you the same without this thing here, this is the main reason why I warned you that night," Christo said while rotating the book, showing a page to Drai.
Drai lowered his head and looked closely at a short phrase that was written in the center of an otherwise blank page.
Reading the words, Drai’s eyes instantly bulged and a shiver ran down his spine.
Written in extremely jagged letters were the words "Seed of Titan", followed by three big question marks.
Drai rubbed his eyes and looked at the words once more, but it remained unchanged.
"How?!" Drai exclaimed in shock as he looked at Christo.
"That’s what I thought too when you told me about your class. How could something I read in passing suddenly manifest in my new roommate as a supposedly unique class?
"At first, I even thought that it was an elaborate prank. But I quickly dismissed the idea since the ones who had read this book aside from me were either dead or too preoccupied to be messing with a teenage boy.
"And since I just met you back then, I decided to keep quiet and pretend like I didn’t know anything about it," Christo explained.
"Then your warning..."
"Well, I had time to think about it while reading the poem you sent to our comms. Regardless of the reason why an ancestor of mine knew about your class or why he jotted it down in the ancestral book in such a manner that it solely occupies a precious page, the name of your class is known to those that have read this book.
"Of course I don’t expect everyone to have an excellent memory like I do, but there’s no telling how many people are able to recognize it, and we don’t even know if they’re aware of your class’ capabilities. But if they are..."
"...Then I’m in danger," Drai finished Christo’s sentence, finally able to fully understand his words that night.
