Seed of Titan-Chapter 85: A Confession Under the Red Sky
Venus wanted to snap back but she feared that Drai would completely crush her. Even now, she could feel her bones slightly cracking under Drai’s grip.
Drai glanced at his System screen that he usually left open while transforming so he could always see his skill timer.
’I can’t handle a direct confrontation against these guys without being augmented. I should finish up quickly,’ Drai thought.
"Miss, I don’t have much time, so goodnight," Drai said to Venus.
Before Venus could comprehend Drai’s words, he spun his arm and hurled her.
Venus zipped through the air so quickly that she nearly created a sonic boom. Her panicked scream only lasted less than a second before she crashed into the same unfortunate building beside them.
Drai didn’t even glance in the direction of his throw since he immediately reverted his form, trying to minimize his cooldown in case one of the intruders came to the area.
’It would be better if I could transform instantly before I landing a hit to save more time, but it’s too bad that the transformation can’t be done that quickly,’ Drai said as he looked at his cooldown that was around a minute long.
’Maybe it’s better to avoid going maximum size since I can cut my cooldown around ten to forty percent depending on the size I choose. I really need to gauge the power level of these guys better and figure out the optimal size to defeat them...’
Drai gazed at the large destroyed section of the wall he had just created, feeling that he was being wasteful with his cooldown.
He then turned around and headed toward the dorm entrance where a few people were still gathering. Most of the onlookers and the rest of the combatants had run away or hidden themselves after seeing Donk’s quick decimation of the previous melee team.
Christ was sitting at a bench near the entrance. He had put away his torch, so the area was only dimly lit. He looked at Drai and waved his hand, gesturing him to come. Drai noticed him and waved back.
As he walked to Christo, Drai felt the apprehensive looks that the few people around the area sent to him. Drai didn’t mind them though—even he would be scared if Christo suddenly turned into a 46-feet1 tall giant.
"You finally did it, huh? Now you can’t hide anymore," Christo remarked upon Drai’s arrival, getting straight to the point.
Sensing his friend’s concern, Drai patted his back before sitting beside him.
"I can always run away if needed. I’ve fulfilled my debt to Professor Ravi after all, so I have no actual responsibilities left here," Drai said nonchalantly.
Christo opened his mouth like he wanted to say something, but after a brief pause, he swallowed his words.
"Come on, just say it," Drai said. He didn’t know what was bothering Christo so much, but he couldn’t understand why his close friend insisted on keeping it to himself.
Christo sighed and slumped back on the bench. He raised his head and gazed at the eerie red sky.
With a somber smile, Christo said, "You know... I envy you, Drai."
"Huh?! You too?!" Drai exclaimed.
Christo chuckled and shook his head.
"Not like that. It’s a different kind of envy, unlike Natalia’s and Jian’s."
Drai saw Christo’s longing gaze and felt that he was telling the truth. He let the silence permeate, accommodating his friend’s confession that only occurred once in a blue moon—or red sky.
Christo took a deep breath and began talking.
"While others long for greatness, I actually want to live a normal life. Of course I want to go out to explore the wilderness and discover new things, but I’m not expecting any glory from it, only thrill."
Christo straightened his back and rummaged his satchel. Seeing the items that he pulled out, Drai let out a hearty chuckle.
"You always have time for your special tea, don’t you, Christo?"
Christo smiled as he poured his tea from a thermos into a small cup, offering it to Drai.
"I don’t actually have many interests in life, so I cherish the few ones that I have," he said while filling another cup for himself.
Christo took a sip of the warm tea before continuing, "I’m sure you guys have noticed by now that I never talked about my family nor my hometown. It’s not that I truly don’t want to talk about it, but knowing about it won’t do you any good. In fact, there’s a chance that it will bring you harm instead."
Drai’s eyebrows furrowed as he tried to think what kind of background would bring that kind of effect.
"Are you from a criminal family of some kind? Or maybe you’re an illegitimate son of some magnate," Drai guessed.
Christo chuckled and said, "Rather than you spreading some terrible gossip about me, let me just tell you the gist of it. I come from a family that’s really powerful, but their current circumstances prevent them from wielding that power freely. And these circumstances are related to the reason why I’m constantly trying to keep my identity hidden."
Drai pondered over Christo’s words.
’It’s a really vague reason, but I can’t force him to elaborate it if it’s truly a sensitive matter like he said. But Christo didn’t actually refute my guesses, so does it mean there’s still a possibility that he’s from a criminal or conglomerate family? If his family are really criminals, then it makes sense that Christo doesn’t want the world to know about him since there may be people with grudges who will target him if they find out.’
Christo shook his head with a helpless smile upon seeing that Drai was still trying to figure him out. He didn’t say anything about it though, as he felt that Drai’s curiosity was perfectly reasonable as one of his close friends.
"So is there really nothing we can do about it? I mean, you can ask me for help if you think I can be helpful," Drai said.
"Thanks, Drai, but no. There’s really nothing you or the others can do about it, at least not in the present."
