Chapter 93: Breaching the Barrier

As Jian’s figure faded into the distance, Drai turned to Christo and asked anxiously, "What should I do, Christo?!"

Christo shook his head and said, "With Jian’s current emotions, he won’t listen to a word we say. I’m actually quite shocked that he felt that way, but maybe I’ve really been rather harsh toward him."

"So we’re just letting him go like that?" Drai remarked, staring at Jian’s figure that was no longer there.

Christo sighed and looked up at the sky, thinking it was inevitable that his personality and Jian’s clashed. Jian was hotheaded and impulsive, while he was calm and prudent; they were almost the total opposite of each other.

On the other hand, although Drai wasn’t as prudent as Christo, his personality was on the calmer side, which caused Christo to sympathize with him more, resulting in this disparity of treatment that was mentioned by Jian.

Had they not been roommates, Christo and Jian would’ve probably ignored each other or ended up as rivals. But since they were living together, and in addition to Drai’s existence that could rein in Jian with his overwhelming strength, Jian had been suppressing his true feelings while attempting to adjust to his friends. Alas, tonight had been a series of unfortunate incidents.

"Master, if I may," Liam suddenly said.

Christo turned to Liam and nodded, gesturing him to speak up.

"I actually agree with Jian’s words. I don’t think you should carelessly walk into the central area."

Christo raised an eyebrow and asked, "Why is that? Are you not confident even with your abilities?"

"Honestly, yes. After all, Zar’s abilities should be on par with or even above mine. But since these zealots dare to wreak havoc here, they must have prepared to confront or restrict your rector. Of course this can be done in many ways, but if they had chosen to send a strong fighter that can match or defeat Zar, I’m afraid it will be difficult for me to ensure your safety if we ever encounter that person, Master."

After conveying his thoughts, Liam slightly bowed as an apologetic gesture for not being competent enough. As usual, he wasn’t blinded by his loyalty and would still make necessary suggestions even if he had to indirectly belittle himself or his master in the process. For Liam, Christo’s safety was the number one priority.

In fact, if Donk had intended to crush Christo’s neck earlier, he would’ve perished before he could exert an adequately lethal force into his grip since Liam was keeping watch nearby. And because Christo had not called for his help, Liam chose not to prematurely interrupt the whole interaction lest his master reprimand him again like he did that night right after the venture.

After hearing Liam’s thoughts, Christo deliberated on the matter.

’It is as Liam said. Zar should have acted by now, and he could easily traverse the whole area in a short time with his spatial skills. Logically, this intrusion should have been thwarted in no time. But seeing as it hasn’t, does that mean the Order really has a method to deal with Zar?’

After mulling over it a bit more, Christo felt that it really would be pretty unwise for him to follow Drai into the central area. Like Jian said, relative to Drai and Liam, he was a total weakling who could easily lose his life against a second-stager and above. And among the list of things Christo cherished so much, his own life was definitely at the very top.

"Fine, we won’t go in," Christo finally said to Liam. He then turned to Drai and said, "Sorry, Drai, but I won’t come with you if you’re still insisting on checking on the professor."

Drai nodded in understanding. Due to Jian’s harsh rebuke, he began to try shifting his perspective and looking at things from others’ point of view. And by doing this, Drai could see that it was unreasonable for him to expect his friends to follow him inside, so he didn’t feel too bad about Christo’s refusal.

"Don’t worry, I’ll help you create an opening first. After that I’m going to follow Jian. I’m worried that he’ll do something rash," Christo said. He then turned to Liam and instructed, "Make a small opening, just enough for Drai to sneak in. We want to avoid unnecessary attention."

"Yes, Master."

The old man stepped forward until he was close enough to the barrier. He then pulled out a golden and red-colored rapier from beneath his robe. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

"Dawn Rose. It’s been a while since I last saw her," Christo commented while admiring the rapier’s splendor.

"There hasn’t been a worthy opponent to justify her appearance," Liam remarked with a hint of pride in his tone.

Drai also looked at Liam’s weapon with intrigue. He had never seen a rapier user from this close since most students here wielded more conventional weapons such as swords, poles, and sabers.

"Master, Drai, please mind your distance," Liam advised as he took up his stance, vertically holding Dawn Rose close to his face and facing the barrier. Drai and Christo complied and moved back a few steps.

Seeing that the two were at a safe distance, Liam immediately charged his skill. A regal golden aura covered his whole body. Following this, a sharp ring briefly sounded as a golden energy surged from Dawn Rose.

Liam’s figure suddenly flickered in place. A second later, he huffed and retracted his aura, putting away Dawn Rose before turning to Christo.

"It is done," the old man stated.

"Thanks, Liam," Christo replied before saying to Drai, "Well, you should wait here until your skill is ready, Drai. Only after that should you enter. If you go in now, you’ll just risk yourself needlessly since you won’t even be able to help Professor Ravi if he’s really attacked."

Drai was silent. Instead of listening to Christo’s words, he was currently staring in a daze at the smoking hole on the barrier.
