Seed of Titan-Chapter 94: A Token of Luck
"Drai!" Christo shouted, pulling Drai back to reality.
"Huh? What’s wrong?" Drai exclaimed, looking a bit lost.
"I said you should wait until your skill is ready before going in. You won’t be able to do much anyway without it, so don’t rush it."
"Oh... Yeah, you’re right. I guess I’ll wait around thirty minutes before going in. Are you leaving right away?" Drai asked.
"Yeah. We don’t know when these guys will retreat, so it’s best if I make haste. Losing all our female first-years to some intruders will definitely cause a huge uproar among the public—although this attack alone is enough to make national headlines," Christo replied.
Drai wondered if he should go with Christo, but he figured Liam would probably be more than enough to defeat all the robed people there. He felt that it would be best if he went to Ravi’s place first to either help or warn him about the matter that Donk revealed before heading to the female dorm and other places in the campus.
"Okay then. Take care of yourself and the girls, Christo. And if you meet Jian, tell him I’ll make amends later."
"Sure. And you stay safe too, Drai. Keep yourself hidden in the meantime in case the robed guys pass this area. And when you’re done with your business, just head to the headquarters. I’ll bring the whole party and meet you there later."
Drai nodded and turned to Liam.
"You’re very strong, so please help my friends, Liam. I’ll make sure to repay you in the future," he requested while bowing slightly.
Liam chuckled and patted Drai’s shoulder.
"Don’t worry, young man. Your friends are Master’s friends too, so I’ll help them regardless. And you don’t have to repay me. Just keep being a good friend to Master and I’ll be the one indebted to you instead," Liam reassured as he smiled warmly at Drai.
Drai smiled back and nodded before turning back to Christo.
"Thanks for the help and also for opening up back in the dorm. I don’t know what the future holds, but I hope your circumstances won’t force you to leave the academy. I still have a lot to learn from you, Christo. And if the worst happens, make sure that my parents are informed and safe."
"Don’t say that. As long as you have your skill ready, I’m sure you’ll be fine," Christo said with a reassuring smile. However, he suddenly thought of something and proceeded to open his satchel. Seconds later, he pulled out a pendant and handed it to Drai.
"What’s this?" Drai asked upon seeing the pendant on his palm. It was a silver lion head with a long red scar on its left eye.
"It’s a good luck charm. Keep it with you at all times, okay?" Christo said.
"Oh, alright. Thanks!" Drai replied while putting on the pendant around his neck. Wearing this kind of accessory wasn’t his style, but he figured he could use some extra luck, not to mention it would be kind of rude if he immediately put away the charm. Drai could also stash it in his dimensional storage later, but he wasn’t sure if the charm would still work from there.
"Well, see you later," Christo said as he finally departed with Liam.
"See you," Drai replied. He watched the two figures disappear into the darkness in the same direction that Jian had gone to earlier. Following this, Drai went straight into hiding. He entered a large bush nearby and sat there quietly while keeping tabs on his skill’s cooldown.
Meanwhile, on their way to the female dorm, Liam suddenly asked, "Will it be fine leaving your pendant with Drai, Master?"
"Why not? I have no need for it with you at my side. Besides, I also have my tattoo."
"True," Liam curtly remarked before falling silent. Shortly after, he spoke again, "You also told him something related to the family, didn’t you? I saw you take out the ancestral book earlier."
Christ shrugged and replied, "It was just a small matter. Don’t worry, he still doesn’t know about our background, at least not the specifics. I’m pretty sure Natalia already informed him about our faction, but it’s not that much of a secret anyway.
"You know how the government’s top brass always suspect everyone from Crown’s Passing to be part of our faction, especially those from our family. I’m pretty sure they’re keeping a close watch ever since I came here. But since we haven’t made any notable moves recently, they have no justifications to act against us."
Liam nodded, agreeing with his master’s view of the present situation.
"Since your friend Natalia is a Skyward, do you think she knows your true identity, Master?" Liam asked.
"I don’t think so. My hunch tells me that she only knows that I’m a member of our family. Perhaps Alancho had told Natalia about me when he found out that I was enrolling in the same academy as his daughter. But even if the information regarding our family members has been known by the Demos Faction for quite some time, I’m sure they haven’t realized what the core family members truly are."
"Well, she did overreact when she first met you. But I wonder why you’re still keeping her around even after that. Is it to curry favor with Alancho as a contingency?"
Christo simply snorted, which made Liam shut his mouth, thinking that he had wrongly spoken.
After a brief silence, Christo finally said, "There are some matters that even you aren’t privy to, Liam. I initially had a plan in mind, but seeing the current state of affairs, I don’t think it’s doable anymore—not without external aid."
Liam kept quiet and didn’t inquire about the details, for he had long learned that if his master intended to divulge something, he would do so without being asked. And if the matter was only vaguely mentioned just like now, his master most certainly had no intention to elaborate further.
Christo glanced at his servant and chuckled.
"Don’t worry, Liam. I’ll tell you more about it when the time is right. But for now, I’ll keep it to myself while I maintain a steady ride on the current. Fortunately, I’m a rather decent actor."
Instead of freeing Liam from worry, Christo’s words made him even more perplexed. Liam didn’t know what plan his master had in mind, but he somehow had an inkling that it was something preposterous.
Soon, the two had arrived near the female dorm. Just like at the male dorm, the situation here was rather chaotic, with many people darting around and screaming inside the building. Meanwhile, at the dorm’s courtyard, countless female students were seated on the ground—their bodies wrapped in leaves and vines.
A familiar blue qi slash suddenly split the night air, cutting apart a collection of twirling vines that was zooming toward him.
Seeing this, Christo let out a smile and said, "I thought Jian would act suicidal after his outburst, but he seems alive and kicking. Why don’t you go help him, Liam?"
Liam nodded and immediately vanished from sight.
