Sharing Dreams with My Bestie's Cousin-Chapter 42 - Overcooked
Chapter 42: Overcooked
Chapter 42: Overcooked
“It’s Wen Yiwan, right?”
“Tell me, is it Wen Yiwan?”
The woman turned to leave, but Wen Zhi tightly clamped her wrist, preventing her escape, and harshly questioned her.
“I don’t know who Wen Yiwan you’re talking about is, I don’t know, I really don’t know.” The woman, terrified of Wen Zhi, panicked and shook her head.
The person who had contacted her to handle this matter indeed had given her a large sum of money, an amount she couldn’t earn in ten years working at Baixi Manor.
She was just an ordinary person whose moral baseline couldn’t overcome her self-interest; in a moment of weakness, she had agreed to burn incense for her.
Fearing the issue would escalate and she would be held accountable, she had arranged a backup plan for herself; she needed to leave quickly, as even a moment’s delay could lead to trouble.
“I don’t know anything, let go! Let go!” The woman struggled fiercely to pry Wen Zhi’s hand off.
Wen Zhi released her grip in pain, and her body, losing support, suddenly slipped backward. The quick-reacting woman caught Wen Zhi and in one fluid motion, ‘threw’ her onto the bed.
The bed shook heavily as Wen Zhi clenched her teeth, curling up to protect herself, feeling strangely… her body felt strange…
She had thought the effect of the incense was merely to weaken her physically; could it be that something else had been added to it as well?
“Just hold on, President Hu will be here soon, very soon…” Seeing that Wen Zhi’s complexion was off, the woman didn’t dare to linger and hurriedly turned to flee.
She had barely reached the door and hadn’t yet pressed the doorknob, when a heavy object struck her on the back of the neck.
The woman’s body wobbled, her eyes widened in disbelief; she hadn’t even seen what had hit her when suddenly everything went dark, and she fell backwards onto the carpet.
‘Thud,’ a muffled sound echoed.
After the woman fell, Wen Zhi’s figure quietly stood to one side, holding the tray that had held the incense.
Her strike was precise, the pain shooting through to her neural center, causing the woman to fall into a brief faint.

…
Minutes later.
Wen Zhi hid behind the rockery landscape below Donglou, watching as a man surnamed Hu looked around sneakily and crept into Donglou.
Wen Zhi breathed a sigh of relief; her tightly wound nerves temporarily relaxed as her body’s supporting strength dwindled, she slowly squatted down, hugging her knees, biting her teeth to ease the discomfort.
It was still very hot.
Wen Zhi suffered miserably, furious at herself for having let her guard down at Baixi Manor, and hating Wen Yiwan for repeatedly humiliating her.
She knew that Mr. Hu had been coveting her for a long time, even the last time had been Wen Yiwan’s doing. And just now, fearing she would encounter Mr. Hu and be trapped again, she had fled in panic, not even realizing when her phone and glasses had fallen off; she had no choice but to find Gu Rang on her own.
But in her current state, how could she walk out from behind the rockery?
Both her complexion and clothes were a mess, anyone could see she had encountered trouble; well-meaning people might help her, but if not, she’d be out of luck.
Wen Zhi, supporting herself on one arm, slowly tried to stand, her arm shaking violently. She couldn’t hold it for a few seconds before collapsing down: “Eek…”
Her escape had consumed nearly all her remaining strength; she couldn’t muster any force now.
“Who’s back there?”
A man’s questioning voice came from outside the rockery; Wen Zhi’s body stiffened.
She held her breath, not daring to make a sound, her hands sweating nervously.
The man did not leave and ordered someone nearby, “Go and see who’s skulking around over there.”
Lai Sheng responded, “Yes.”
Footsteps approached Wen Zhi, growing ever closer, until the man’s steps halted and she abruptly looked up to meet a stranger’s face.
Lai Sheng was also startled: “You…”
Wen Zhi’s cheeks were flushed. She raised her hand to her lips, “Shush!”
Seeing Wen Zhi’s disheveled clothes, Lai Sheng turned his gaze away and said to the man standing at a distance, “Mr. Liang, it’s a woman, she seems…”
Wen Zhi tightened her clothes, and when she spoke, her voice carried the soft tones of Wu Nong’s speech, “Leave me alone…”
Lai Sheng stiffened, his body unmoved, just turning his face away, waiting for Mr. Liang’s instructions.
“Mr. Liang.”
Not far off, Liang Yin stood under a magnolia tree dressed in a black shirt. He pulled out a cigarette case and lit a cigarette. Two petals from the magnolia tree fell onto his shoulder; he glanced down, brushed them off, and exhaled smoke.
Smoke swirled around his face, the familiar Great Chongyang which was milder in taste, with no harshness, quite smooth. In his earlier years in the military, he had smoked Hongtashan, which was robust in flavor, sharply stimulating. After leaving the military and focusing on self-improvement, he switched to Great Chongyang.
Glancing up and catching sight of the complex expression on Lai Sheng’s face, Liang Yin, with the cigarette hanging from his lips, walked over, “Pull her out.”
Lai Sheng was hesitant, hesitating, “… It’s not convenient.”
“Not convenient?” Liang Yin stopped in his tracks.
Lai Sheng spoke, “Mr. Liang, it seems she has encountered something; her situation doesn’t look good.”
Liang Yin frowned.
He wasn’t someone who typically meddled in others’ affairs.
But since this was happening right under his eyes, and it was merely a matter of lending a hand, he pushed past Lai Sheng, “Let me see.”
Lai Sheng stepped aside to give Liang Yin space.
Liang Yin took a step forward, his gaze falling on Wen Zhi; at that moment, she was burying her face in her knees, her whole body trembling; she indeed seemed to have encountered something.
Liang Yin squatted down on one knee, still puffing his cigarette, and called out a couple of times, “Hey?”
Wen Zhi, shivering, looked up; her hair was tangled with sweat, and her almond-shaped eyes were moist. It was pity-inducing.
The cigarette dangling from Liang Yin’s lips fell to the ground, the ashes scattering.
“Wen Zhi?”
His expression and tone were filled with shock.
Apparently, he hadn’t expected to see her here.
Wen Zhi hadn’t expected the person to be Liang Yin either. Her mouth opened slightly, her voice soft beyond measure, “Liang, Yin…”
Liang Yin immediately reached out to support Wen Zhi, and upon touching her, realized how feverishly hot she was, as if she could melt at any moment, “What’s wrong with you?”
Her voice trembled, “Save me, save… me…”
Liang Yin looked at Wen Zhi’s flushed face, her eyes lacking focus, filled with tears, appearing very abnormal.
His eyes darkened, not knowing who had plotted against her, leaving her in such a sorry state.
“How did you get yourself into this state?” Liang Yin, with a stern face, pulled her into his arms first.
Wen Zhi’s body was as slippery as an eel, unable to steady herself as she was pulled up, her entire body collapsing into his embrace, “Take me to the hospital first.”
Holding Wen Zhi’s delicate and soft body, Liang Yin’s expression slightly changed. Considering there was another person nearby, wary that Wen Zhi’s condition might be exposed, he cast a hostile glance at Lai Sheng, “Keep your eyes off, also, get the car ready immediately and contact the nearest hospital.”
Lai Sheng had been turning his face away, daring not to look, yet he still got scolded, feeling incredibly aggrieved.
Grievances aside, he didn’t dare delay handling the urgent affairs, pulling out his mobile phone to contact the nearest hospital.
Once Lai Sheng left, only Wen Zhi and Liang Yin remained near the rock garden.
Wen Zhi, while still retaining a few threads of clarity, was largely driven by her body’s urges, her arms ceaselessly climbing up Liang Yin’s body, “To the hospital, the hospital…”
Liang Yin’s face was tight
