After learning of the presence of a spellcaster belonging to the Tower of Summoning, Mira changed course and went to the center of the city, following the directions she was given. As one would expect from a summoner of the level, they were staying in a rather classy inn, which happened to also have a special theme.
Its name was Casters’ Sanctuary, and Mira soon spotted its sign, just where she was told it would be. There was also a board next to the sign, detailing the services offered by the inn.
In accordance with its name, it was an inn catering specifically to spellcasters, and next to it, almost like a mirror image, was also one called Fighters’ Sanctuary.
The first thing that Mira noticed when she went inside was its particular construction. There were two reception desks past the entrance, the right one looked like the average high class inn, while the left one was more reminiscent of a library’s.
As it turned out, Caster’s Sanctuary had been built as an inn annexed to a library, with that side of the building being lined with shelves full of books, so people who liked to read would often go there just to read, without actually staying for the night.
There was a dedicated reading space too, and Mira could see many people there, sitting comfortable on couches while leafing through books.
(Ohh, this looks like an interesting place.)
Those peculiarities quickly caught Mira’s attention, as she looked around in wonder. There was a staggering variety of titles on the bookshelves, and according to the guide map next to it, the library occupied the first five floors of the building. The first and second floor had books related to spells, while the rest had books on old legends, biographies, history books, and more sciency things like taxonomy books on monsters, magic beasts, plants, and even devils.
Just what she could see on the first floor was already impressive, so her eyes lit up with wonder as she thought of the remaining floors above.
Soon, she was walking forward, wondering if she could find a book with handy Concept Magic spells there, but a certain warning sign nearby caught her eye and she stopped.
It said ‘2000 Rils for one hour, free entrance for guests.’
There was a usage fee for people who were not staying the night in the inn, and since Mira had no plans of staying in such a luxurious place so soon into her trip, she hung her head in dejection and turned back to the inn side’s reception desk, focusing on her original goal of finding that researcher from the Tower of Summoning.
「Welcome!」
The receptionist there gave a welcoming smile, and Mira went straight to the point, asking, 「I heard there’s a summoner from the Silver Linked Towers staying here, can I meet them?」
That made the receptionist’s smile quickly break down, turning into concern for Mira, as even she was aware of the reputation of the research nuts from the towers.
Now, there was a young and beautiful girl asking to meet one of them, which would indubitably make anyone worried. So the receptionist turned a peering gaze at Mira, asking, 「Would you mind telling me what business you have with them?」
「Ah, well… I also happen to be a summoner, you see, and knowing how rare it is to meet someone from the towers, I figured I’d try finding them.」
Saying that, Mira also showed her adventurer card, which confirmed that she was a summoner, and her current rank, A.
That shocked the receptionist a bit, but it also told her that Mira was considerably strong herself, so it was safe to tell her about the summoner from the tower, who sadly had left that morning and had not returned yet.
「So would you happen to know where they went then?」
The response was that they likely had gone to the Spellcasters’ Union, as they were trying to find someone to help with something.
Mira decided she would search there, and asked for directions to get to the Union from the receptionist, and then left the inn, still feeling a bit of reluctance to part with all those books.
Some walking later, Mira reached the Spellcasters’ Union. It was already time for dinner, so most of the adventurers were outside, looking for a place to eat, while only a few were still inside the Union.
Those still inside were there to report after completing their job, or looking for something to do the next day, haggling for rewards, selling monster parts, or restocking on consumables, so overall, they looked rather busy.
(I just hope that he’s still here…)
The Union’s lobby area was quite large, likely made to look like a public office reception. Mira looked around that place, built of wood and stones, while thinking of that.
Then, she scanned the gathered adventurers, searching for the one she sought—and then it hit her: she didn’t even know their name.
That was quite a predicament for her. She had known nearly everyone in the Tower three decades ago, but with so much time passed, she had no idea who might have joined since then.
It would be too impractical to figure out who it was just by looking around, so she decided there was no need to complicate things, and decided she would simply ask aloud if there was a summoner from the tower there.
With that in mind, she took a deep breath in preparation.
「You! You there! Can you use any high level spells?!」
But before she could get a word out, a man who looked like he was nearing his fifties ran up to her while asking that with excitement, almost like he was expecting something from her.
