Chapter 303: Chapter 303: He Couldn’t Be Happier

The boat drifted leisurely along the wide river, a stark contrast from the exhausting journey they had endured earlier. The four of them finally relaxed and chatted.

The couple was clearly having a spat, while the two people sitting opposite them, despite not being physically close, spoke in hushed tones that exuded a harmony warmer than that of real couples.

Outside, Wei Yaoyao held up his phone to Ning Yunchao and made a clicking sound twice: "Look, look, Xie Qingci is practically glued to Yu Xia."

Ning Yunchao, still sporting a black mask beneath his chin, quenched his thirst with water before glancing over.

"He’s in a great mood from participating in this variety show- smiling all the time. Usually, he’s not one to lift the corners of his mouth."

Wei Yaoyao said leisurely, "Why wouldn’t he smile? This show is clearly about playing matchmaker, living with the person you like for five days— and just last night, they went camping. He’s absolutely on cloud nine."

Besides, he doesn’t for a second believe Xie Qingci has been all prim and proper over these two episodes.

Recalling how nonchalantly Xie Qingci had declared, "I like Yu Xia; she can only be mine," and then observing the person on the screen, Wei Yaoyao thought Xie Qingci was a schemer, steadily pursuing his goal.

As for whether the goal was to "win over Yu Xia" or "make everyone accept that he’s won over Yu Xia," that remained unknown.

Ning Yunchao laughed: "Indeed, he’s thrilled; rumors are flying everywhere, yet he only knows how to smile at Yu Xia. Didn’t he say something on camera yesterday? It instantly hit the hot search; when my assistant showed it to me, they kept praising how handsome and devoted he is."

Though most male entertainers in showbiz aspire to stick to this persona, the devotion seen by fans is often diluted, Xie Qingci might be an exception.

"It’s quite amusing," Wei Yaoyao casually rested his arm behind his head, "Despite the severe rumors, he still seizes every opportunity to confess. If not for Changhui backing him, with the power to solve problems, I’d think he’s losing his mind."

As he spoke, he leaned in a bit, lowering his volume, his manner betraying a classic gossip-hunting attitude.

"Hey, do you think the people slandering him this time include our dear teammates?"

Ning Yunchao was disgusted by the phrase "dear teammates," slapping Wei Yaoyao’s face away.

"Teammates are teammates; gross nicknames don’t sit with me, and I have no clue."

"Quit playing innocent; remember how your eyes shone watching the chaos they made when they fought last time?" Wei Yaoyao rolled his eyes.

Ning Yunchao: "..."

He was about to retort when the recording studio door swung open, and two people walked in from outside.

Chi Qiao greeted them warmly, while Song Xi removed his black mask and handed his stuff to the assistant trailing behind him.

Today, he wasn’t wearing his signature glasses, his hair slightly cast a shadow over his eyebrows, he reflexively smiled as he raised his head, and the refined yet rogue image was firmly tied to him.

But from his eyes, one could discern the weariness etched on his face.

"How long have you guys been recording?"

Ning Yunchao replied, "Over an hour, anyway we have no plans today, so we came early. Did you just rush back again?"

His schedule was incredibly busy, squeezing in band-related activities whenever possible; if he couldn’t, he simply wouldn’t attend.

This distinguished him from Xie Qingci, who would always attend as long as arrangements were made beforehand, making an easy visit, whereas if no arrangement was made, like this time with him on a show, he wouldn’t attend.

Overall, it felt like Song Xi was like an overworked child laborer squeezing out time for schooling, while Xie Qingci seemed like a top star who had achieved a great balance between work and study.

Song Xi nodded and wanted to catch up quickly with their progress, standing in front of the microphone to start singing.

But alas, his voice wasn’t ready, and no matter how he sang, it felt off.

Wei Yaoyao pushed over a chair, lazily yawning: "You’d better rest first; your throat is about to give out."

Ning Yunchao handed over a bottle of water, Song Xi muttered "thanks," sitting down with a slightly irritable demeanor.

He strives to achieve perfection in everything, highly dissatisfied with his current state.

Wei Yaoyao asked him, "Even a spinning top wouldn’t spin all over like you do; you can’t excel in everything you try. Hey, no need to take this as me griping at you, but imagine, who’d be satisfied with this state, when partnership requires good condition? You’re better off not coming to record; singing poorly only invites ridicule from fans."

Ning Yunchao nudged him, indicating to stop his rant.

"I’m just a do-gooder, but I can shut up if you’re not interested." Wei Yaoyao shrugged it off, cheerfully unlocking his phone and watching the show again.

Just as he clicked in, a clear voice came through: "Two buns for two yuan; Xie Qingci is collecting the money," the tone filled with laughter, conveying the speaker’s bright mood.

Song Xi instinctively turned to glance at Wei Yaoyao’s phone.

Ning Yunchao’s eyes shifted, typical of casual chat, asking Wei Yaoyao: "Is Yu Xia extorting Ling Luo and them now?"

"It’s called a transaction; how can it be extortion if everyone seems quite willing? Except Xie Qingci hesitated to part with those two buns." Wei Yaoyao replied lazily.

Within their group, mentioning Xie Qingci brought back memories of his fight with Song Xi, while Chi Qiao, stuck in the middle, couldn’t help but steal a glance at Song Xi.

Just catching sight of his emotionless face.

The previous brawl shook the entire group. The equally exhausted and weary leader and deputy leader inexplicably ended up fighting.

Xie Qingci was notably furious, landing a punch that floored Song Xi, followed by increasingly savage blows that seemed to aim at downing Song Xi entirely, while Song Xi, despite being hit, smiled, as if he had long awaited this scene.

Others didn’t react in time; it was their managers who ran over to separate them.

Later, when helping out, alignments were clear - Ning Yunchao and Wei Yaoyao on Xie Qingci’s side; it almost took three people’s effort to restrain him, his hurried gasps and murderous glare at Song Xi filling the surroundings with unease.

Few knew the real reasons and aftermath; Wei Yaoyao seemed to know bits but kept tight lips, merely joking without revealing even an inch.

Hence, among the nine in the group, five or six remained oblivious, clueless why the two fought; later, learning Xie Qingci likely liked Yu Xia, they speculated if it was somehow related to Yu Xia.

But Yu Xia and Song Xi appeared to have nothing much going on, so the true cause remained murky.

Chi Qiao, contemplating the escalating tensions between the two lately, preferred saying little, focusing on watching the show with Wei Yaoyao, who wouldn’t shut up like an amplifier.

"Is Xie Qingci secretly hitting the gym? Just to make others praise him? See how delighted he is."

"Yu Xia continues to be attentive to newcomers, even multitasking eating buns and teasing Xie Qingci with an utterly vapid remark hahaha, an entirely substance-free comment."

Just after uttering this, Song Xi let out a cold snort.
