Chapter 179: Fate

Nicklaus eyed the piece the Handler played, he has really gotten better like he said he would... Nicklaus wasn’t so sure he could win now.

"Your move, Magnus," The handler said smirking.

"It seems like you have gotten better, you are prepared" Nicklaus commented, striking another move.

"I told you I have lost to no one until you and I intend to make up for it"

"Did you play this game with my wife? Because you don’t seem like one to grant a favor"

"Well she’s an exception... How could I resist a beauty" he shrugged and then his eyes landed on the board, Nicklaus was in a hot pursuit with his pieces, it was time for him to step up for he knew Nicklaus wasn’t planning on losing.

"You are not the one to grant favors, Handler. Why her? You must have seen something in her"

"Hmm as wise as always" The Handler sighed. "I sensed a powerful energy from her, one that does not belong in this dimension"

At his words, Nicklaus paused his actions.

"What do you mean Handler?" Alaric asked.

"Hmm," he made a sound, flapping the hand fan he held.

"What do you mean an energy from another dimension?" Nicklaus asked but the Handler was busy thinking of another move, his eyes concentrating on the board.

"We all seek answers," he began. "But where we find them is up to us" he quotes once again. "She is a mystery one and the energy I felt from her is close to that of the Holy Library"

"What do you mean?" Celeste asked.

The Handler’s eyes fell on Nicklaus. "You understand me do you not?"

Alaric and Celeste’s eyes fell on Nicklaus who remained still, the Handler smiled knowing he did.

"Although I do not know how possible, I believe, she’s not just a goddess"

Nicklaus’ eyes trembled at his words. ’It can’t be’

"Ha look, you won again," the Handler said, sighing in defeat. "Seems like no matter what I do, I’m no march for you"

"Nicklaus, what does he speak of? What does he mean by Yelena being connected to the Library?" Celeste asked but Nicklaus remained silent.

"It is said ’Fate’ works mysteriously, although we cannot tell in the start there’s ALWAYS a connection, the same vision that brought you to the Holy Library was the same link and path you followed to see your light", with a wave of his hands the thin line at the center of heaven and earth beamed.

"Go now, she awaits you"

The siblings stepped into the border.

"Nicklaus, what does he speak of?" Alaric asked.

Nicklaus was lost in deep thought. ’That Fox’ His mind flashed to Millenniums ago when he finally found the Holy Library.

☆☆☆

Millenniums Ago

"Yes," Young Nicklaus said boldly, his price was a silly one, he thought the library would be smarter than that.

"It is a deal then, and an unbreakable pact, I shall have your first son," Basker said as a root moved to Nicklaus, he stretched out his hand, and then the root slit his hand drawing his black blood and took some spill of it, the wound automatically closed.

"The pact has been made... you may now enter" at his words the gates of the library opened.

Nicklaus took a deep breath before stepping inside the gates and shut close behind him. It was a long walk on the concrete ground and then his eyes met the biggest building he had ever seen. His mouth went apart in awe as he stared at the wide building reaching the skies and shaped like a box, a continuous shape to the very top, it made him wonder how tall was the library? The lamppost was around the compound giving light to the enormous compound.

The large door before him carved with the most artistic design he has ever seen barged open and then a petite fox with one tail greeted him with a smile.

Nicklaus froze when he saw the fox, fur silver and the most beautiful creature he has ever seen and eyes like honey mixed with green.

☆☆☆

’Could it be?’

☆☆☆

Young Nicklaus who buried himself with books from the library hasn’t moved from that spot in what seemed like eyes.

At the sudden sound like something dropped to the ground, he turned, his eyes narrowing.

"I know it you," Nicklaus said sternly, he knew it was no other than the Fox, she has always been watching him ever since he was here reading and studying, she thought she was doing a good job in hiding from his sight but she was not doing a good job at all, he could easily spot her anywhere, she was just too obvious. The library must have told her to watch over him, not that he minded, she should just do her job more professionally.

The Fox slowly came out of hiding, her tail swamping back and forth behind her, she offered him a smile.

☆☆☆

In recalling the past, he couldn’t shake the thought off. ’Could that Fox be?’

"We’re here" Alaric announced.

Nicklaus instantly snapped out his thoughts as his eyes finally found the view of the Spirit Forest, this brought back memories.

"Wow, it looks the same," Alaric said, taking in the view with his eyes.

"Yes it does," Celeste said with a faint smile on her lips.

"Come, I feel she’s close," Nicklaus said, already walking ahead, eager to get to her. He could feel her but he couldn’t find the exact spot.

Celeste and Alaric followed behind, on their way some animals hid seeing them not knowing what to do, they rarely got any visitors.

It took a while in their walk and suddenly a red Fox jumped at Nicklaus but he caught the small creature swiftly behind his neck.

"What do you want huh, go away!" Gideon yelled, throwing punches in the air even though he was hanging.

"Well if it isn’t Gideon... still as wild as ever," Nicklaus said.

At the familiar voice, Gideon stopped his actions and his mouth dropped. "MAGNUS!"

Ava and Puma popped their heads out of the bushes. "MAGNUS!"

"See Ava, Puma! I told ya, a mere erasing spell isn’t gonna keep him away!" he pointed, and then faced Nicklaus as he shivered head to toe at his lifeless looks, he still pondered how their Guardian captured this god heart, he gulped loudly.

"Where... is... she?!"
