Single Spell Sorcerer-Chapter 144: Countdown to the Start
Chapter 144: Countdown to the Start
The host’s voice continued, drawing their attention back to the situation.
"As you may understand, you will now be fighting monsters one round after another, until you either pass or fail."
"Soon, the monsters will come streaming into your arena through one of the four gates. Initially, you will face only one monster at a time, but as the trial progresses, the number will increase."
The voice paused, letting that information sink in.
"After every nine beasts, you will face a Boss monster on the 10th round. Regular monsters will be at the 5th Opal stage, while Boss monsters will be at the 1st Emerald stage."
Jax felt the difficulty of the trial. 5th Opal Stage monsters were easily doable, but 1st Emerald stage bosses were a different deal. Not to mention, they were going to have to fight way more than just a few of them since they would have to fight round after round.
Fatigue would be the biggest issue they would have to face at that moment.
"The monsters will never grow stronger," the host continued, "but over time, there will be more than just a single monster in each round." fɾēewebnσveℓ.com
"To advance to the next carriage, you must survive at least the first twenty rounds. This means defeating eighteen regular monsters and two Boss monsters. Everyone who survives these initial rounds will receive a 1-Star ticket and may choose to leave immediately."
Roman exhaled slowly. "Twenty rounds. Haha, we can do it, guys."
"For those who choose to continue," the host’s voice carried on, "A 2-Star ticket requires surviving forty rounds. A 3-Star ticket requires sixty rounds. These are the maximum tickets available simply by surviving the designated number of rounds."
"We can try for a 2-Star ticket," Roman said. "But It might be best to stop at 1-Star too. We just need to move on to the next round."
Ning placed his hand on Roman’s shoulder. "Kid, we’re gonna go for the highest no matter the situation."
Roman’s face fell.
The voice took on a more serious tone.
"However, for 4-Star tickets, you must not only survive past the sixtieth round, but you must be among the ten remaining parties to receive it. As for the 5-Star ticket, there is only one, and you must survive until the very end to receive it.
"When only one party remains, the Trial will finally be over."
The host’s words left a heavy atmosphere all throughout the thousands of Arenas that were with other participants, preparing to fight.
"There are a few restrictions as well. You will only be allowed to use 3 Potions per person. Should you exceed that number, you will not be allowed to use any other potions."
"Now, the rules of disqualification," the host continued. "Should any party member die before the twentieth round, the entire party will be immediately disqualified. If they die after the twentieth round, however, when tickets have been earned, the remaining party members will be forced to move on from the trial and pass."
"However, if the one who dies is the Party’s leader, everyone belonging to that party, regardless of the status of their tickets, will be disqualified and their tickets taken away."
"Once a round begins, the battle cannot end until the monster is defeated. Should you fail to defeat the monster within the given time limit, the next round will start regardless, and you will have to fight multiple monsters at the same time."
"If you wish to use your ticket and leave, you must do so between rounds during the brief rest periods, so long as you have defeated the monsters. At least three members of the party must agree to leave for the tickets to be usable."
The host’s voice grew stern.
"Finally, any and all self-sabotage is perfectly acceptable. It is on all of you to find the correct party members for your party."
A countdown appeared in the air before them, glowing numbers that seemed to float at eye level.
5:00
4:59
4:58
"You have five minutes before Round 1 begins," the host announced. "Use this time wisely."
The arena fell silent except for the soft sound of their breathing. Five minutes to prepare for what could be days of battles up ahead.
"Well," Jax said, trying to inject some confidence into his voice, "at least we know what we’re facing now."
"Is this similar to what you knew about the trial," Ning asked Lucille.
Lucille nodded. "There are many changes, but overall, its the same trial I had heard about. You fight a horde of monsters coming at you in various rounds."
Ning nodded. "I think it should be more or less doable. The only issue here is how we’re going to pace ourselves. I worry I won’t have the stamina to last over 60 rounds, especially when there will be many more monsters coming at the end."
"We’ll get through this," Lucille said. "Roman can help you with his spells, right Roman?"
Roman nodded, his hand moving to check his armor straps one more time. "I’ll try. But I’ll only be good for as long as I have Navi. the moment I run out, I will become useless."
"That’s fine, you have potions," Melayne said.
"Yeah, but only 3," Roman said with a dejected look.
Jax thought of something upon hearing that, which led him to think about something else. "He said potions, right?" he asked. "Everything else is fine?"
"What else can you use?" Melayne asked.
Jax shrugged. "Navi stones."
Melayne chuckled. "You can’t just expect him to sit down and... oh my god, he can totally sit down and absorb Navi."
Roman looked at the others and realized what they were saying was true. "But, I need to help with the fight."
"You being absent from a fight or two won’t hurt us," Lucille said. "You being absent for all of them will. So that’s a better alternative.
They all looked at the countdown, slowly ticking away one second after another. Then, when it finally hit zero, a loud horn blew throughout the arena.
The Monster Horde Trial had begun.
