Chapter 460: Chapter 460: The Sentinels (Part 6)

Point-of-View: Jaden Xeno

———————————————————————————

Shit, shit, shit, shit, shit!

I can’t dodge this, and I seriously doubt my Telekinetic Shroud is strong enough to tank this-...!

Suddenly, my vision blurred sharply as an intense, high-pitched ringing slammed into my left side, Sky vanishing from my sight as I stumbled back with a dazed groan, feeling a trail of blood running down from my left ear.

I tensed as I felt a tap on my shoulder, my head jerking across before I relaxed and let out a sigh of relief, to see Beatriz standing beside me.

She said something, but it was unclear and fuzzy, I couldn’t make out what she was saying...

"What?" I inquired, a bemused look appearing her face.

I get it...she must have blown Sky away with a sonic blast, and I got caught up in it. I narrowed my eyes slightly as she spoke, trying to read her lips...

"Ah, crap, guess I hit you pretty hard. Okay, stand back and rest, until you’ve healed up. I’ll take over for a bit," She remarked, before stepping forward as she gave me a pat on the back.

Yeah, I’m completely disoriented right now...since I focused Telekinetic Shroud over my chest, it was weaker over the rest of my body, so her attack landed pretty emphatically.

"Careful, she’s crazy strong," I informed her, as Sky got back onto her feet and dusted herself off.

Point-of-View: Beatriz Oliviera

"Careful, she’s crazy strong!" Yelled Jaden, as I stepped forward and let out a slow exhale.

"Yeah, I can see that-...never mind, you can’t hear me," I sighed, grimacing warily as the Monster turned her attention towards me.

"Hm, that Magic seems troublesome, what an unpleasant effect. I suppose I should introduce myself again...I am Sky, the Avian Queen," She greeted me with a bow of her head.

"Huh, how polite. You look a bit like a Phoenix, plus some Roc and Thunderbird sprinkled in," I remarked, as I glanced at her immense, imposing Aura.

"Well, that is not entirely inaccurate. I was indeed a Phoenix prior to this, until Lord Vaszel evolved me to this form, to which he bestowed the title of Avian Queen."

Vaszel...if I’m not mistaken, that’s the Demon Lord’s name, isn’t it? Yeah, Kai mentioned it in the report he submitted to the Union after he returned from the Monster world.

I see, so the Demon Lord has the ability to evolve Monsters beyond the highest stage of their evolutionary cycle. Well, that isn’t alarming at all.

Wait...if she used to be a Phoenix, that likely means she retained those abilities. Don’t tell me...are we going to need to kill her twice?

"You really shouldn’t let your mind wander in this situation."

I froze before spinning around and whipping my blade across as she whispered into my ear from behind, stiffening as my blade whizzed through the air, no sign of her behind me.

I instinctively unleashed a burst of sonic sound around myself, right in the nick of time as I felt something start to pierce into the top of my head.

I turned my gaze up, spotting her ascending above me. She had a slightly annoyed look on her face as she rubbed the right side of her hair, presumably around where her ear hole was.

"That really is an annoying form of Magic. Despite my regeneration, the initial pain is quite unpleasant," She uttered with a grimace.

Regeneration too? Yeah, I should’ve figured as much...I landed a direct hit with my first attack, and she got up and brushed it off in no time.

I then felt a chill down my spine as I sensed immense, stifling bloodlust directed at me, my blood running cold.

I tensed and stepped back into a defensive stance as she swooped down towards me, an intense gust of wind erupting behind her as she closed in on me in the blink of an eye.

As she drove her talons down towards the top of my head, she abruptly halted as a sharp crackle rang out, right as Iseul sprinted in and sprang up to Sky’s left, before driving her blade forward with a powerful thrust.

Sky’s left arm shot up in a rapid blur, grabbing the end of the blade between her talons before snapping it in half, intense wind and flames starting to swirl around her as she shifted her gaze towards Iseul, who began to back away.

Suddenly, Sky’s eyes widened in surprise as she began to get pulled across to her right by a powerful telekinetic force, getting thrown off-balance as the pulling force exerted on her then abruptly vanished.

This is my chance!

I snapped my mouth open and unleashed a deafening sonic blast, her expression tensing up sharply as blood burst out of her ears, her eyes twitching as she let out a sharp gasp.

She stiffened before her gaze shakily shifted to her right, as Jaden launched himself towards her with a powerful telekinetic burst, swinging his right hand down towards the side of her neck as her closed in.

He let out a sharp gasp of pain as he shot past her, as she dug her talons into the left side of his stomach and tore out a chunk of flesh...right as her head fell off her shoulders and hit the ground with a thud, blood spraying out of the stump left around her neck.

Blood gushed out of Jaden’s side as he clutched the deep injury with a grimace, gritting his teeth and starting to back away as flames erupted around Sky’s body as she began to collapsed, followed by an intense burst of wind, blowing us away.

As I came to a skidding halt across the ground, I winced slightly in pain. I lifted my gaze as I got back onto my feet, a towering pillar of flames swirling ahead of me, intense streaks of lightning crackling around it.

The pillar then erupted, a stifling burst of heat blanketing the area as the flames slowly dissipated, Sky coming into sight with a dark look in her eyes.

The head that Jaden had severed was on the ground, by her feet, a new one had grown to take its place.

"It seems I got too careless, you humans pose more of a threat than I gave you credit for. Perhaps not so much individually, but as a group, you’re relatively dangerous. I underestimated you...and unfortunately for you, I will not make the same mistake again."
