Sinner System-Chapter 511: Final Dungeon - Second Floor (Part 4)
"So...we’re almost back where we started, right?" Frowned Jaden, a perplexed look on his face.
"Yeah, we’ve circled most of this floor already, I don’t think there’s any point to going any further along this route," I nodded, letting out a quiet sigh.
It’s been over an hour since we got to the second floor, and we’re not too far off from having walked around the full perimeter of the area.
Unlike the first floor, it’s pretty evident that the Sentinel on this floor isn’t by the walls. The Apostles have wiped out a good number of Monsters, but eliminating regular Monsters is pretty damn low on our list of priorities right now.
We need to find and defeat the Sentinel on this floor as fast as possible. We don’t have the luxury of taking our time here.
"Maybe we should head dead-center and make our way to the middle of this floor?" Suggested Aria uncertainly.
"Yeah, I’m leaning towards that too," Nodded Aarav in agreement.
"I mean, it’s not like we have a map or anything, so it’s better than wandering around at random," Mused Jaden thoughtfully.
"Alright, then, let’s head to the center," I responded, after a brief pause to mull it over.
The Apostles headed up front and led the way, Cleo using her echolocation Skills to keep an eye out for any Monsters.
We came across several more swarms of Giant Mantises and Scythe Mantises along the way, but the Apostles had little trouble breezing past them without much delay.
I could feel a rising sense of restlessness and impatience around the party, steadily burgeoning with every passing minute.
We’re all keenly aware of the fact that we’re on a time crunch here, this is taking way too long, and we’re only on the second floor.
Alright, think...there has to be a way to speed up our progress rate, we simply don’t have the luxury of taking our time like this.
Hm...oh, that could wor-...
"I think I found it, the Sentinel! About ninety-five meters that way, I can sense a ring of pillars too," Suddenly remarked Cleo, pointing slightly across to the left.
I see, so it’s a bit off from the center. Now, then...
"Hold on, guys. We need to locate and attack the Sentinels a lot faster than we have been so far, and to that end...," I trailed off, before glancing at the Apostles, "I’d like you guys to go on ahead towards the Sentinel. If nothing happens, return here."
"<Ah, I get it. You want to see if us encountering a Sentinel would activate the ring of pillars and trigger the roulette. And since we can’t be permanently destroyed, there’s no real risk>," Surmised Superbia with a thoughtful nod.
"Mhm, exactly. If nothing happens, then from the next floor onwards, I can have you guys split up and scatter across the floor to find the Sentinels. That should help speed up our progress," I reasoned objectively.
"<Should all of us go, Master>?" Luxuria asked me.
"No, I don’t think that’s necessary. Ira, Acedia, you guys go on ahead," I instructed, picking the fastest pair among the Apostles.
"<Understood, Chief, consider it done>," Nodded Ira affirmatively.
"<Fine, if I have to>," Sighed Acedia, before the two of them took off into the air and headed off, rapidly disappearing into the distance.
It didn’t them long to return, swooping down and landing before me.
"<It worked, Chief. I believe we saw the Sentinel, a creature somewhat resembling a Scythe Mantis, amidst a ring of pillars>," Ira informed me.
"<It also possesses a Personalis Arma. There were a pair of curved, double-edged blades floating around it>," Added Acedia with a grimace.
"Alright, got it. Good work, we’ve confirmed that you guys coming across the Sentinels doesn’t trigger the pillars. Now, as planned, only us X-Aces will proceed ahead," I remarked, as I glanced back at the Aces.
"Don’t have to tell me twice," Nodded Rex, hanging back.
"Really hope this works. Good luck, everyone," Added Jax nervously.
"Yeah, cut down the Sentinel and let’s keep moving," Spoke up Brid with an encouraging grin, giving us a thumbs up.
The X-Aces then headed in the direction of the Sentinel, steadily making our way forward, the Apostles forming a tight ring around us.
If I end up getting picked, I’ll withdraw them and then summon them back out once I’m inside the ring of pillars with the Sentinel.
Hopefully, that’ll work.
I think I stand a fair chance of defeating a Sentinel by myself, but I’d prefer to keep my power boosts in reserve for when we reach the top floor and face off against Vaszel.
So, if I can take down a Sentinel fast by overwhelming them with the Apostles, in tandem with myself, that’s exactly what I’ll try to do.
"There, up ahead, I think I see the pillars," Remarked Jaden, right as the Monster came into sight.
It does look a bit similar to a Scythe Mantis, but it definitely isn’t one.
It was a humanoid mantis Monster, with a sleek, narrow figure, and was quite tall, appearing to be around six and a half feet.
Its exoskeleton looks denser and more durable than that of Scythe Mantises, and unlike Scythe Mantises, it had hands and fingers.
The tips of its fingers were narrow and razor-sharp, and it had narrow, scythe-like blades extending out of the back of its wrists, the blades curving backwards and extending back past its elbows.
And it had long, translucent wings extending down from its upper back, with a massive, imposing Aura of immense intensity swirling around it.
Let’s take a look, Appraisal:
