Chapter 117: Chapter 117: Hubby, I Was Wrong

Serena Yardley hadn’t expected that old man to actually tell her to leave.

This only stoked her insecurities and her fear of being abandoned by him, pushing her heart further and further away.

She pursed her lips, looking at him deeply, and asked uncertainly,

"Do you really want me to go?"

If he nodded, she would leave.

’Besides, I don’t think I’m good enough for him anyway.’

’Being with him is actually very stressful.’

Ethan Yardley didn’t really want her to go. He was just venting.

He remained silent and turned to go into the walk-in closet.

Serena remained standing there, head bowed, feeling utterly dejected.

In the end, while he was changing, she turned and walked away.

However, she only went as far as the living room downstairs.

When Ethan came out after changing and saw Serena was gone, his heart skipped a beat.

Terrified she had actually left, he hurried out of the room.

When he stood at the top of the stairs and saw her sitting on the sofa in the living room, he finally breathed a sigh of relief.

But he still felt unsettled, so he turned and went to his study.

Sitting in the living room, Serena took out her phone and called Yannick Young.

She knew it was her fault this time, and she was willing to swallow her pride and apologize.

’If I make an effort and that old man is still angry, then I’ll have to consider whether I should really leave for good.’

The call went through, and Yannick Young asked respectfully, "Miss Serena, how can I help you?"

Serena plucked a grape from the fruit bowl and ate it as she asked, "Do you know what your boss likes?"

"Hm?"

Yannick Young didn’t quite understand.

Serena explained, "I made him angry, and I want to find out what he likes so I can get it to make it up to him."

Yannick Young laughed. "My boss? I think the only thing he likes is you, Miss Serena."

Serena frowned. "I’m serious, I’m not joking."

"I’m serious, too. I don’t think anything you get for him would be as effective as you just sweet-talking him a little."

’He was always with the President; he’d witnessed plenty of their lovey-dovey moments.’

’Especially whenever Miss Serena sweet-talked him, all the President’s principles went right out the window.’

’Besides, their President wanted for nothing. Did he really need Miss Serena to give him some gift?’

Serena seemed to understand. After hanging up, she looked upstairs again.

’Go sweet-talk that old man?’

’I know how to be charming, but will it really work on him?’

Looking at the fresh fruit platter on the coffee table, Serena picked it up and walked upstairs.

She checked the bedroom first, but when she didn’t find him, she went to the study door.

Without knocking, she pushed the door open and went in.

She found him sitting at his desk in loungewear, working.

Serena tiptoed inside, placed the fruit platter beside him, and said softly, "Have some fruit."

The man’s expression was cold and grim; he didn’t spare her a single glance.

His eyes remained fixed on the computer.

Serena tilted her head to look at him, carefully taking another step closer.

"Ethan, I know I was wrong. I won’t hug anyone else next time." 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

She reached out and tugged his sleeve.

Ethan remained expressionless, clearly having no intention of acknowledging her.

Serena decided to just squeeze in front of him, blocking his view of the computer with her body. She stared at him with wide, innocent eyes and said in a sweet, coaxing voice,

"Honey, I was wrong. Please forgive me, okay?"

She puffed out her cheeks, her expression both innocent and earnest as she waited for his response.

Ethan’s gaze finally landed on Serena’s round, delicate face, but his eyes remained incredibly cold.

"Move."

"I won’t."

He raised his hand to pull her away.

Not only did Serena refuse to move, she threw herself into his arms, plopping herself onto his lap. Her voice was soft and wheedling as she pleaded,

"Honey, I already apologized. Don’t be mad, okay? Please?~~~"

Ethan was speechless.

He couldn’t deny it. He was completely unable to resist her whenever she got all sweet and clingy with him.

But he was still upset.

’If I forgive her this time, there will just be a next time. She’ll never learn her lesson.’

"Serena Yardley, I’m in a very bad mood right now. Get up and go back to your room. Don’t bother me."

He did his best to suppress his anger, trying not to lash out at her.

Serena frowned, realizing her charms weren’t working.

She pulled back from his chest, cupped his handsome, chiseled face in her hands, and suddenly leaned in for a kiss.

But to her surprise, Ethan turned away in distaste, pushing her away. "Don’t touch me. Get up."

"No."

She insisted on kissing him.

Ethan, however, was annoyed. "Are you like this with every man?"

His words pierced Serena’s heart.

She sat on his lap looking at him, silent for a moment.

’So in his eyes, am I just some shameless woman with no morals?’

She grew furious. Scrambling off his lap, she glared at him indignantly and said,

"Fine. I’m like this with every man. Since you’re so disgusted by me, just stay away from me from now on."

She held back the tears welling in her eyes, turned, and stormed out the door.

Ethan realized he had gone too far. He started to call out to her, but his pride held him back.

In the end, he could only watch helplessly as she disappeared.

’I’m supposed to be the one who’s angry. How does she always end up having a bigger tantrum than me?’

Ethan decided not to bother with her anymore.

But the thought of the recent accident she’d been in, how she’d barely survived and made it back to him, made it impossible for him to just sit idly by. He stood up and left the study.

This time he didn’t find her in the bedroom, and he didn’t see her in the living room either.

Going downstairs, he saw Vivian Lynch not far away and asked, "Where’s Serena?"

Vivian Lynch quickly turned to face Ethan. "Miss Serena seems to have gone out."

Ethan checked the time. It was nine o’clock at night.

Worried she wouldn’t be safe out on her own, he rushed out after her.

Serena had already booked a car on a ride-sharing app as she was leaving the house.

The car was incredibly fast; it arrived just as she stepped outside. She got in and headed straight for the university.

Just as Ethan came out, he saw Serena’s car driving away.

A surge of anger flared up in him, and he whipped out his phone to call her.

This time, he cast his pride aside. He was just worried that his Serena would leave and never return.

Serena sat in the front passenger seat, looked at the caller ID on her phone, and didn’t answer.

She turned her head to look out the window, tears streaming uncontrollably down her face.

’I truly like him. I genuinely want to make this marriage work.’

But he didn’t trust her.

’Since he doesn’t even have that little bit of trust in me, why should I debase myself by staying and walking on eggshells around him?’

’I should be like Nina—decisive when it’s time to make a clean break, not hesitant.’

When she didn’t answer his call, Ethan immediately tracked her location. He breathed a sigh of relief only when he saw her car was heading straight for the university.

’As long as she’s going back to the university, it’ll be okay.’

’We can both cool down tonight. I’ll go get her tomorrow after I’ve had some time to think.’

Since it was the weekend and her dorm mate, Cynthia Meyer, wasn’t there, Serena slept in her bed.

But early the next morning, Cynthia Meyer returned.

Looking at Serena sleeping in her bed, she wasn’t angry, and just said, "Can we go outside and talk?"

Serena shot up from the bed, looking at Cynthia Meyer. "Talk about what?"

"You know what. I’ll be waiting for you outside."

With that, Cynthia Meyer left the dorm room.
