Chapter 126: Chapter 126: Ethan Yardley Critically Ill??

Watching Ethan Yardley’s departing figure, Julian Thorne tore his gaze away to remind his sister.

"Sis, don’t listen to his nonsense. Those two are in it together. He’s probably forgotten all about how he treated Serena before she lost her memory."

Nina Thorne lowered her head, silent.

’Is what Ethan Yardley said true?’ she wondered.

’Quinn Gardner has liked me since high school?’

’And Clementine’s mother... does she really look so much like me?’

’No!’

’I can’t let myself be swayed.’

’So what if it’s just as Ethan Yardley said? Quinn Gardner has already crossed the line. He’s broken my heart completely.’

’I will never choose to forgive him just because of my personal feelings.’

’Never.’

"Get some sleep, Julian."

Getting up, Nina Thorne took her son’s hand and went upstairs.

Julian Thorne remained seated, clenching his fists so hard the veins on his forehead bulged.

’So Quinn Gardner won’t agree to a divorce? Fine. Then he can’t blame me for playing dirty.’

...

Serena Yardley ran home, dove into her room, and hid under the covers.

Ethan Yardley followed at a leisurely pace, changed his clothes, washed up, and got into bed.

He didn’t touch her.

He just sat quietly beside her and said softly,

"Serena, you can hang out with anyone you want, but at night, you have to come home. This is where you belong."

’Don’t always stay over at other people’s houses.’

’It makes the house feel cold, like it isn’t a home at all. It makes me feel so insecure.’

Serena Yardley hid under the covers without making a sound.

Ethan Yardley looked at the bulging lump under the covers and continued,

"Also, don’t meddle in Nina Thorne and Quinn Gardner’s affairs. Let them handle it themselves."

Serena Yardley still ignored him, pretending to be asleep by letting out a few snores.

Seeing that she was ignoring him, Ethan Yardley said no more and lay down beside her.

He didn’t embrace her, worried she would think he was only interested in having a baby again.

Serena Yardley finally couldn’t stand being under the covers any longer and poked her head out for air.

She secretly glanced at the man beside her. Seeing he was asleep, she turned her back to him and forced herself to sleep.

「The next day.」

When Serena Yardley woke up, the man who had been sleeping beside her was gone. Instead, she heard the sound of retching coming from the adjoining bathroom.

She got up, shuffled to the bathroom door, and peeked furtively inside.

When she saw Ethan Yardley actually bracing himself against the sink as he threw up, she felt a strange flicker of concern.

Walking over, Serena Yardley asked him, "What’s wrong?"

Ethan Yardley looked pale. He straightened up and replied, "It’s nothing."

"If it’s nothing, then why are you throwing up? Did you eat something bad?"

’That can’t be it.’

’He always eats so carefully, and he rarely drinks or smokes. He wouldn’t have eaten something bad.’

"Maybe."

Ethan Yardley had felt off ever since he woke up. He’d felt nauseous but couldn’t throw anything up.

He quickly finished washing up, then pulled her over and personally helped her wash her face and comb her hair.

Serena Yardley pouted. "I can do it myself."

"It’s no trouble. I’ll do it."

He insisted on helping her. After he was done, he led her to the walk-in closet and chose a floral dress that suited her especially well.

After she was dressed, he led her downstairs for breakfast.

However, when faced with a table laden with exquisite dishes, Ethan Yardley completely lost his appetite. A wave of nausea washed over him.

He gave up on eating, stood up, and went to the living room.

Serena Yardley asked him, "Why aren’t you eating?"

"I don’t have much of an appetite. You eat. I’ll take you to school after you’re done."

Serena Yardley lowered her head to eat, occasionally glancing over at the man in the living room.

’He’s acting so strange today.’

’He looks pale, and he’s refusing to eat breakfast, even though he never skips it.’

’Is he really sick?’

Serena Yardley quickly finished her food, walked over to him, and said with concern, "Maybe we should go to the hospital."

"See what for?"

Ethan Yardley gazed at her.

"You’re not feeling well. We should go to the hospital to see if you’re sick, or if something’s wrong with your stomach."

"I’m fine. What could possibly be wrong with me?"

Ethan Yardley got up and led her out the door.

Hearing him say he was fine, Serena Yardley thought to herself that he was a grown man; he’d probably be alright.

’I shouldn’t have to worry about him anyway.’

As they neared the school, Ethan Yardley said,

"I’m going on a business trip for a couple of days. I’ve arranged a driver for you. If you want to come home, just call the driver to pick you up. If not, you can stay at the school."

He had arranged a private dorm room for her at the school, after all.

Serena Yardley replied casually, "I’ll just stay on campus then. It’s a hassle going back and forth, and I could get an extra two hours of sleep."

"That works too. I’ll pick you up when I get back from my trip."

Serena Yardley nodded.

After arriving at the school, she got out of the car but couldn’t resist reminding him, "If your stomach is still bothering you, go to the hospital and get it checked out."

’Even a grown man can get sick sometimes.’

’Besides, he’s always so busy. Maybe he’s worked himself sick, staying up late for overtime.’

"So, Serena does care about me after all."

Ethan Yardley was very gratified.

Serena Yardley ignored him and walked into the school.

Ethan Yardley watched her small figure retreat into the distance. A smile touched his lips as he signaled the driver to go.

He didn’t pay much attention to the fact that he was feeling unwell.

But his condition grew worse, so he had Yannick Young go buy him some stomach medicine.

But after a week of taking the medicine with no improvement, he had no choice but to go to the hospital.

He went to the hospital for a full check-up, but they found absolutely nothing wrong.

Ethan Yardley was frustrated. ’Am I cursed or something?’ he wondered.

It was a week later when Serena Yardley saw Ethan Yardley again.

She climbed into Ethan Yardley’s car, schoolbag in hand, and was startled by the sight of him.

’How did he get so thin? And he looks so haggard.’ 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

Serena Yardley asked him, "Are you okay?"

Ethan Yardley naturally pulled her into his arms, his voice gentle. "You say that as if you think I’m not."

He had indeed been feeling unwell this past week.

He couldn’t eat and was easily overcome by sleepiness and nausea.

Naturally, he had probably lost a few pounds.

Serena Yardley said, "You’ve lost weight."

"Have I?"

Ethan Yardley acted like nothing was wrong, ruffling Serena Yardley’s hair.

"Then I’ll eat more when we get home. It’s probably because I didn’t eat or sleep well during the business trip."

"I have some spicy strips here. Want some?"

Serena Yardley took the spicy strips from her schoolbag and handed them to him.

The very sight of food made Ethan Yardley want to vomit. He quickly waved his hands. "No, thanks. You eat it."

’Something is definitely wrong with him.’

Serena Yardley asked, "Ethan, have you been to the hospital? You seem sick, and it looks pretty serious."

’I haven’t seen him for a week, and he looks like a completely different person.’

’He’s still handsome, but he looks so haggard. His eyes are bloodshot, and his face has thinned out so much.’

Holding her in his arms, Ethan Yardley’s voice was gentle. "What are you thinking? I’m fine. I went to the hospital, and they couldn’t find anything wrong."

"What kind of useless hospital was that? How could they not find anything? I can see with my own two eyes that you’re obviously sick," Serena Yardley grumbled.

Ethan Yardley reached out and pinched her cheek. "You, are you hoping I’m sick or something?"

Serena Yardley lowered her head, not speaking.

’Even though she was giving him the cold shoulder, he was still her husband. She had no desire to become a young widow.’

’She still wanted him to be healthy and well.’

"If I really do die someday, you’ll inherit all my assets. You’ll be a little rich girl then."

Ethan Yardley teased, watching her expression.

But Serena Yardley didn’t find it funny.

She scrunched up her face and glared at him. "If you die, I’ll take your money and get myself a stable of toy boys."
