Sir, Please Sign Here to Get a Divorce-Chapter 127: Luring Quinn Gardner Back for a Divorce
’A sugar baby... a boy toy?’
Ethan felt a sharp pang of jealousy at her words.
He pressed his lips into a thin line and reached out, unable to resist pinching her round cheeks. "You wouldn’t dare."
Serena glared at him. "If you’re dead, why wouldn’t I? You think you can crawl out of your grave to stop me?"
Ethan was speechless.
’Was she trying to infuriate him to death?’
He pulled her into a tight embrace and sighed. "Don’t worry, I’m not dying anytime soon. And even if I did, I’d drag you with me."
"I have no intention of dying with you."
Serena elbowed him.
As their car passed a well-known hot pot restaurant, Serena suddenly spoke up.
"Let’s have hot pot today. That place is super famous; my classmates go there all the time."
Ethan glanced at the restaurant. It was right on the street, bustling with people and incredibly noisy. He said,
"If you want hot pot, we’ll have Mrs. Miller make it at home."
"It doesn’t taste as good as what you get in a restaurant."
"But restaurants are unsanitary. They probably use gutter oil."
Ethan insisted.
Serena shot him a cold glare. ’This man is such a killjoy.’
’Nothing from the outside is ever clean. Only things from his own home are.’
Ethan pretended not to notice her anger. He simply took out his phone and called Mrs. Miller, asking her to prepare hot pot for dinner.
After hanging up, he reminded her,
"You’re always going over to Nina’s for dinner. You should invite her over tonight. It’s only right to reciprocate, don’t you think?"
At this, Serena’s eyebrows shot up. She leaned closer to Ethan with a grin. "Why don’t you invite Quinn Gardner, too?"
"Invite him for what?"
Ethan sat up straighter, looking serious.
Serena clung to his arm, her tone turning threatening.
"Invite Quinn, and I’ll stay home for hot pot. If you don’t, I’m going to stay at Nina’s, and you’ll be sleeping alone."
"Anyway, it’s your call. Do you want my company, or do you want to sleep alone?"
’She knew he was a man in his prime. After being away on business for a week, he would inevitably want to...’
’If they could get Quinn to come over, Nina could finally corner him about the divorce.’
"Are you trying to get them to meet just so they can have another huge fight?"
How could Ethan not see through her little scheme?
’Then again,’ he thought, ’Quinn’s avoidance isn’t solving anything.’
’He can’t just keep dragging this out forever.’
’They’re not seeing each other or living together anyway. How is that any different from being divorced?’
"So, are you going to call him or not? If not, I’m ignoring you."
Serena crossed her arms, scooted away from him, and turned her back in a huff.
Ethan sighed in resignation. "Fine, I’ll give him a call and see."
With that, he took out his phone and dialed Quinn Gardner’s number.
The call connected, and Ethan spoke. "Quinn, come over to my place tonight."
"What for?"
"You can’t keep avoiding her forever. Just come over. See if you two can talk things out properly."
"Not happening," Quinn refused.
Although that woman hadn’t contacted him in the past two days, he knew he’d be pressured into a divorce the second he showed his face.
Better to stay away forever than to go back and be cornered.
"Look, Leo really misses you. I’ll have him brought over so you can see him. As his father, you’ve already missed five years of his life. He’s finally close by; are you really going to neglect him now?"
Ethan was lying.
’For Serena’s sake, he was willing to throw anyone under the bus.’
Quinn fell silent on the other end.
He had just lost a daughter; he couldn’t bear the thought of losing his son, too.
’Even if he ran into that woman, it would be fine. If he refused the divorce, what was she going to do? Eat him alive?’
For the chance to see his son, Quinn agreed.
"All right, I’ll come over for dinner. Tell Mrs. Miller to make plenty of food."
"Okay."
After hanging up, Ethan glanced at Serena. "Satisfied now?"
Serena grinned and pulled out her phone to text Nina.
When they arrived home, she rushed out of the car and ran inside to help Mrs. Miller with dinner preparations.
Julian Thorne hadn’t been to work for the past few days, staying home to keep his sister and the child company.
When he heard they were going next door for dinner, he brought the boy over early.
Stepping inside, he saw only Ethan in the living room and called out, "Ethan."
Leo also chirped sweetly, "Hello, Mr. Yardley."
"Hello, Leo. Where’s your mother? Why didn’t she come with you?"
"Mama said she’s changing and will be right over. Mr. Yardley, where’s Miss Serena? I miss her so much! I haven’t seen her in days."
Ethan pulled the child closer, his brow furrowed. "Why do you miss her? Children should focus on their studies, not think about other things."
"But I like Miss Serena! If she didn’t already have you for a husband, I’d marry her when I grow up."
Leo declared, ever the precocious child.
Julian, sitting nearby, snorted. "I don’t even have a chance. What makes you think it would be your turn?"
Ethan shot him a look.
The little one shot him a look, too.
Julian cleared his throat, suddenly embarrassed. "What I mean is, it’s good for a kid to have lofty ambitions. Yes, lofty ambitions."
Ethan’s expression hardened. "Cut it out. I rarely lay a hand on my own people. Don’t make me start with you."
It was a clear warning.
Julian was unfazed. "Ethan, I saved her for you and coaxed her into getting treatment. I haven’t even heard a ’thank you,’ and now you’re threatening me?"
’If it weren’t for me, would Serena even be back in this house?’
’Some people just don’t know how to be grateful.’
’If I’d known, I would have taken Serena away back then, let Ethan search for her for the rest of his life. Let’s see how arrogant he’d be then.’
Ethan pressed his lips into a thin line and said coldly,
"Isn’t that why I invited you over for hot pot? To thank you.
"So after this meal, you can bury whatever’s in that head of yours. If you have any more ideas about her, I will get physical."
He wasn’t joking.
Gabriel Galloway was a prime example.
Julian still didn’t seem to care. He just lounged on the sofa, pulled out his phone, and started playing a game.
Serena had just finished washing a large platter of fruit. As she carried it out of the kitchen, she ran right into Nina Thorne, who was just coming through the door.
She quickly smiled and greeted her. "Nina, you’re here!"
"Yes. Washing fruit, Serena?"
"Yep, just finished."
Serena leaned in close and whispered, "Just wait. That man should be here a little later. Once he’s inside, I’ll lock the gate so he has no escape."
Nina Thorne clutched her purse. Tucked inside was the Divorce Agreement.
She patted Serena’s shoulder, her voice full of sincerity. "Thank you, Serena."
"Nina, you don’t have to keep thanking me. I haven’t done anything yet. Go have a seat. We can eat as soon as he gets here."
"I’d rather help."
Nina placed her purse on the counter and rolled up her sleeves, intending to help in the kitchen.
Just then, the gate buzzer rang from the courtyard.
Serena raised an eyebrow, her eyes meeting Nina’s.
She gestured with her head. "You go sit down. I’ll get the gate. He must have driven."
"Okay."
Serena handed the fruit platter to Nina and hurried out to open the gate for Quinn Gardner.
