Sir, Please Sign Here to Get a Divorce-Chapter 79: It’s No Use Loving Me, I Have a Husband
BANG!!!
Ethan Yardley’s car slammed right into the vehicle waiting at the red light ahead.
Fortunately, he reacted quickly and slammed on the brakes, so the consequences weren’t too severe.
But because of the sudden stop, inertia threw Serena, who wasn’t wearing her seatbelt, forward.
Just as she was about to hit her head, Julian Thorne quickly shielded her.
"Serena, are you okay?"
Serena shook her head and looked at Ethan, who was driving. "Wh-what happened? Did we crash?"
Ethan sat motionless in the driver’s seat.
His mind was consumed by the image of Serena leaning against Julian Thorne.
His hands gripped the steering wheel so tightly it looked as if his fingertips would sink into it.
It was easy to see the fury on his face, a fury he couldn’t unleash.
The driver of the car that had been hit got out, cursing as he banged on the window.
"Hey, what kind of driving is that? Do you even know how to drive? Just because you’re in a Rolls-Royce, you think you own the road, driving recklessly all over the place?"
Ethan’s face was dark. He bottled up his rage and completely ignored the man outside.
Julian Thorne quickly said, "I’ll go take a look."
After getting out and exchanging a few words with the other driver, Julian got back in the car and told Ethan:
"Ethan, could you please take Serena home for me? I’ll handle the rest here."
It was just a matter of paying the other party some money. Although their car was damaged, it was still drivable.
His main goal was to create more opportunities for the couple to be alone.
Looking at Serena again, Julian said, "Serena, you go back with him first. I’ll be there in a little while."
Serena was confused. "He’s the one who crashed the car. Why are you handling it?"
"It’s fine. Ethan is helping us out, too."
With that, Julian Thorne closed the car door.
When the light turned green, Ethan silently drove around the other car and left.
Serena watched his cold demeanor. He was the one who had rear-ended someone, yet not only did he not get out to apologize, he didn’t even acknowledge the other driver.
Serena couldn’t help but speak up:
"Can you please drive a little slower? Wasn’t what just happened enough of a lesson for you?"
Ethan pursed his thin lips, a knot of frustration tightening in his chest, making him feel suffocated.
Serena added, "I’m grateful that you drove to the hospital to pick us up, but you need to be careful when you drive. This car must be expensive, right?"
Swallowing the pain in his heart, Ethan replied in a low voice:
"I know. I’ll be more careful next time."
Seeing that he genuinely seemed to understand his mistake, Serena didn’t say any more.
She lowered her head and started playing on her phone.
Ethan kept glancing at Serena in the rearview mirror.
He felt a bitter taste in his mouth.
’Who could possibly understand how I feel right now?’
’I have to pretend I don’t know her, and I have to watch her being affectionate with another man.’
’In all his life, he, Ethan Yardley, had never felt so wronged.’
’But what could he do? He had to endure it.’
Soon, Ethan’s car pulled up in front of the Grant residence.
Seeing it wasn’t her home, Serena frowned and asked, "Why are we stopping here? My house is that way, just a short walk from here."
"They’ve made some good food for you here. Eat something first; it’s not too late to go home tonight."
"Did Nina make something delicious to welcome me?" Serena asked with a smile.
Ethan grunted in affirmation, then got out and opened the car door for her.
This time, Serena politely said, "Thank you."
She hurried toward the Grant Family’s house.
Ethan raised his hand, wanting to call out to her to slow down and not fall, but the words got stuck in his throat.
He closed the car door and followed her into the villa.
The main door to the Grant Villa was open, and Serena walked in as if she owned the place.
As she walked, she called out, "Nina, are you here?"
She didn’t see Nina Thorne, but she did see Mrs. Miller walking out of the kitchen.
Serena was surprised. "Mrs. Miller, you’re here too?"
"Yes, I came over to help cook. Miss Serena, you’re back so soon?"
"I am! Where’s Nina?"
"Miss Thorne is in the backyard."
"Oh, okay. I’ll go find her then, Mrs. Miller."
Serena ran off toward the backyard.
When Ethan came in, Mrs. Miller saw him and greeted him with a nod. "Sir."
Ethan gestured for her to carry on with her work and followed Serena to the backyard garden.
On the backyard lawn, Nina Thorne was arranging pastries on a platter.
Quinn Gardner was beside her, setting up flowers and balloons.
Serena stood a short distance away, gazing at the backyard decorations. It was exquisite, like a fairyland—absolutely beautiful.
She called out happily, "Nina!"
Nina Thorne turned around, smiled, and quickly waved her over. "Serena, congratulations on being discharged! Come here, look what I’ve prepared for you."
Serena walked over to her. Looking at the table full of delicate pastries, her mouth began to water.
She hugged Nina Thorne and nuzzled against her, saying playfully:
"Aww, Nina, you’re too good to me! I love you so much."
Nina smiled gently and patted her on the head. "It’s no use loving me. I have a husband."
"Hmph, that one?"
Serena glanced at the man in the distance.
Nina nodded. "Yep. My husband’s handsome, isn’t he?"
Serena wanted to say he was.
But out of the corner of her eye, she saw that man named Ethan appear, blocking her view of Nina’s husband.
’Actually, speaking of handsome, that Ethan guy is quite good-looking.’
So much so that she couldn’t help but take a second look.
Nina noticed her glance and asked, "Are you looking at Ethan?"
Serena snapped out of it and quickly averted her gaze. "Of course not! I was just seeing if your husband is handsome."
"Serena, you really don’t know who Ethan is?"
Serena picked up a pastry and popped it into her mouth, asking nonchalantly, "Why should I know who he is?"
"Ahem, let me tell you about this Ethan. He’s 30 years old, and he’s the richest man in the country."
"Huh?"
The moment she heard the words "richest man," Serena’s eyes lit up. She met Nina Thorne’s gaze, finding it a bit hard to believe.
"You’re saying he’s... the richest man?"
Nina nodded. "That’s right. So, getting on his good side is like paving a golden path for your future."
Serena was speechless.
Her gaze once again fell on the man in the distance.
’I can’t believe the richest man in the country is someone I’ve met.’
’He’s so young. How can he be so capable?’
Serena quickly took out her phone to look him up online.
Nina knew what she was doing and told her directly:
"Just search for the Serene Empire. That’s his company, and he’s the sole legal representative. You should also look up his personal profile."
Serena did as she was told, and the results left her dumbfounded.
She never would have guessed that the man she thought was involved in a pyramid scheme was actually the richest man in the country.
’No wonder he said I was ignorant before.’
’I really am too ignorant.’
Serena looked at Nina Thorne, blinked, and gave a dry laugh.
"He has the same last name as me, and his company’s name sounds just like my name. I guess we’re quite fated, huh?"
Nina Thorne just smiled without saying a word.
’It’s more than just fate.’
’You silly girl, he’s your husband.’
’How could you remember everything but forget him?’
’Poor Ethan, having to pretend he doesn’t know her either.’
’Sigh!’
’This couple... they really know how to torture each other.’
"Nina, I’m going to go apologize to him. After all, I said all those things about him earlier," Serena said suddenly.
If she didn’t apologize, she’d feel guilty.
Nina smiled and waved her off. "Go on."
Head down, Serena walked over to Ethan, who was arranging flowers with Quinn Gardner. She hesitated, unsure of how to begin.
Ethan looked at her, his eyes filled with tenderness.
He took the initiative and asked, "Is something wrong?"
Serena pouted and gave him a deep bow.
"I’m sorry, Uncle. I’m really sorry for what I said to you at the hospital. I was blind and didn’t know any better."
However!
That one word, "Uncle," tugged at Ethan’s heart, causing an inexplicable ache.
"What did you call me?" he asked, his deep eyes filled with sorrow as he gazed at her.
