Chapter 80: Chapter 80: The Tables Have Turned

Looking at the man before her, Serena Yardley blinked her big eyes.

Her voice trailed off, growing softer and softer.

"Is it okay if I call you Uncle? You seem like you’re about ten years older than me, right?"

She didn’t know why she wanted to call him Uncle, but the title seemed to suit him.

Ethan was speechless.

Looking at her, hearing the familiar way she called him "Uncle," he thought, ’This is a good sign.’

A gentle expression appeared on his face. He nodded and replied, "You can. Call me whatever you want."

"Okay, well, I’ll let you get back to it. I’m going to head over there."

With that, Serena quickly turned and ran off.

She felt her attitude toward the man had changed too quickly. ’People might misunderstand,’ she thought, ’and assume that I’m deliberately trying to get close to him and build a connection now that I know who he is.’

But that wasn’t it at all.

She had simply misunderstood him and wanted to apologize.

Meanwhile, Ethan remained where he was, his eyes following Serena as she left.

Quinn Gardner’s laughter rang out beside him.

"Your little wife is quite a character. She remembers everyone but you. How come I get the feeling she’s just faking it?"

Ethan tore his gaze away and said to Quinn, "She couldn’t fake something like this. It’s probably because I hurt her so badly before."

Especially around the time of her miscarriage.

Although he still hadn’t found out who the father of the baby was, or who had kidnapped her and caused the miscarriage, a miscarriage was incredibly damaging for a woman.

But right when she was at her most pained and desperate, not only had he failed to care for and protect her, but he had also done some terrible things to her.

’Or maybe it was because of me and Sylvia Schuyler,’ he mused. ’Maybe we hurt her so much that she chose to selectively forget.’

Soon, the feast prepared by Nina Thorne and the others was ready.

On the long table in the backyard garden, there were fresh flowers and balloons, pastries and steak, red wine and cake. Every single item was exquisitely and beautifully arranged.

Julian Thorne had also rushed back.

The five of them sat around the table, raising their glasses for a toast.

The scene felt strangely familiar.

Only this time, Serena’s gaze no longer drifted toward Ethan.

Instead, her attention was focused solely on Julian.

Whatever she tasted that was delicious, she would place on Julian’s plate.

With a smile lighting up her face, she said, "Julian, you’ve worked so hard these past few days. Here, eat more."

Julian still remembered the moment before, when Serena had kissed him in the car.

At the time, he’d felt his heart flutter in his chest. He’d assumed it was just a physical, instinctual reaction.

But now, watching Serena either putting food on his plate or feeding him directly, he found it even harder to tear his eyes away from her radiant little face.

However, remembering he couldn’t have any improper thoughts about her, he quickly concealed his discomfort and glanced at Ethan, who was sitting across from them.

Although Ethan wasn’t looking directly at Serena, he saw every single one of her actions.

Despite the pain in his heart, he didn’t dare say a word. He could only sit there as if it had nothing to do with him, letting Quinn drink with him.

"What do you think, Julian? This pastry Nina made is absolutely amazing, right?" Serena spoke again.

Julian smiled gently and nodded. "Yes, it’s delicious."

"Then can I have a little wine?"

Serena’s eyes fell on the red wine in front of them.

But Julian refused. "No, you’re still recovering from a serious illness. You can’t drink."

Serena pouted and tugged at his arm, whining, "Julian~~~ Just a little sip. Can’t I have just a tiny little bit?

You’re the best, Julian. Just pour me a little, I promise I won’t have too much."

The girl’s voice was soft, sweet, and utterly captivating, enough to melt anyone’s resolve.

How could Julian possibly resist?

He tried to suppress the heat rising in his chest and glanced again at Ethan across the table.

But Ethan wasn’t looking at them. He was focused on furiously downing his own wine. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

He wanted to use the alcohol to numb himself, to force himself not to care.

He even kept reminding himself, ’She’s only acting like that toward Julian because she thinks he’s me.’

’This is a critical time. I can’t lose my temper. I can’t do anything to agitate Serena.’

’I have to hold it in.’

Beside them, Nina and Quinn remained silent.

They quietly watched the drama unfold.

Seeing that Julian still wasn’t giving in, Serena’s little face scrunched up, her cheeks puffed out, and she looked like she was about to cry.

"Don’t you like me anymore, Julian? Why won’t you grant me this one tiny request?"

Julian felt like he was at his limit.

’If Serena keeps clinging to my arm and acting cute, I’m going to fall for her.’

Helpless, he forced a dry laugh to hide his discomfort and poured a mouthful of red wine for Serena.

"Alright~ Here you go. Just one sip, okay? Your head injury hasn’t fully healed yet, after all."

"Hehe, thank you, Julian! Mwah~"

Right in front of the other three, Serena leaned over and planted another kiss on Julian’s cheek.

The kiss stunned everyone present.

Julian’s face instantly flushed red, and his heart began to race.

Although Nina and Quinn said nothing, they were clearly surprised, and their sympathetic gazes landed on Ethan in unison.

As for Ethan, his handsome face had darkened to its absolute limit.

He raised the half-full glass of wine he had just poured and drained it in one gulp.

After finishing it, his bloodshot eyes turned back to Serena, who was sitting across from him, his gaze filled with pain.

But Serena didn’t notice him at all. After taking a sip of wine, she excitedly hugged Julian’s arm again and laughed.

"It’s so light and sweet! Julian, I want to eat that big lobster."

Julian snapped back to his senses and quickly served her some lobster.

He knew Ethan was watching them the entire time.

He wanted to pull away from the girl beside him, but his body wouldn’t obey.

It was as if he was instinctively enjoying all of Serena’s intimate gestures toward him.

Especially after Serena had eaten and drunk her fill, she got up and started lingering all over Julian.

Her body seemed boneless as she draped herself over his back, her big, dark eyes looking at the three people across from them as she asked,

"Nina, we’re going to the beach this weekend. Do you want to come with us?"

Nina came to her senses and quickly nodded. "Sure! I’m free anyway."

"Hehe, and brother-in-law?"

Quinn Gardner nodded. "Sure."

Serena completely ignored Ethan, fantasizing aloud as she clung to Julian’s back:

"That’s great! The four of us will go together. How romantic!"

Everyone except Serena turned to look at Ethan.

Ethan had reached his limit.

He suddenly shot to his feet, violently kicked his chair back, and strode away.

His actions startled Serena.

Quinn quickly stood up and followed him.

Serena watched the two men’s retreating backs and asked Nina in confusion:

"Nina, what’s with that rich uncle? Does he always throw a drunken tantrum like that?"

"Ahem."

Nina cleared her throat and said with a smile, "Don’t worry about him. He’s probably just had his heart broken recently."

"Huh? Rich guys get their hearts broken too?"

"Why not? Rich people fall in love and get married too, you know."

"Tsk, tsk. I guess dating such an outstanding man must come with a lot of pressure."

As she spoke, Serena turned to look at Julian with a smile, reaching out to pinch his cheek.

"My Julian is still the best. He’s handsome, he’s an actor, and he’s so good to me."
