Sir, Please Sign Here to Get a Divorce-Chapter 94: Serena Yardley Is Brainwashed
Serena Yardley spent the entire day at home, sitting in a daze.
Her roommates, who had only just woken up at noon, called to ask where she was and if she was okay.
She told them she was fine. After hanging up, she sat on the living room sofa, staring at the short video Ethan Yardley had sent her.
’So *she* was the one who forced him.’
’And not him taking advantage of the situation.’
’How could I be like this when I’m drunk?!’
’If it had been anyone else, wouldn’t my life be completely ruined?’
Serena Yardley writhed on the sofa, so angry she felt like she could spit up blood.
She swore she would never drink again for the rest of her life.
When a thought struck her, she quickly sent a message to Ethan Yardley.
Serena Yardley: [Ahem, um... Did you wear a condom last night?]
As she sent the message, Serena Yardley was mortified. She covered her burning cheeks, anxiously awaiting his reply.
Ethan Yardley was in a meeting.
His phone, resting beside a stack of documents, lit up. He picked it up, unlocked the screen, and upon seeing it was a message from Serena Yardley, he raised an eyebrow.
Sitting ramrod straight, he typed out a one-word reply.
Ethan Yardley: [Mm.]
Serena Yardley let out a sigh of relief when she saw he had replied.
’Good, he wore one. That means I don’t have to go buy the morning-after pill.’
’Besides, I’ve heard that taking emergency contraception often can mess up your period.’
She put her phone away, intending to head back to school, but after only a couple of steps, her legs trembled and her entire body ached unbearably.
’It was obvious how savage that man had been last night.’
’He probably folded me every which way, tossing me back and forth, and utterly ravaged me.’
’Beast.’
’How could he take advantage of my drunken state to do all those things to me?’
Sore and fuming, Serena Yardley ate something before going back to her room to lie down.
「Ethan Yardley arrived home at 6:30 p.m.」
The first thing he said when he saw Mrs. Miller was, "How is she?"
Mrs. Miller replied, "Miss Serena didn’t go out today. She’s been home all day, and she doesn’t seem to be in a terrible mood."
Ethan Yardley changed his shoes and headed upstairs.
When he reached Serena Yardley’s bedroom door, he gently pushed it open and entered.
Serena Yardley was sprawled on her bed, complaining to her roommate on the phone.
Sensing someone come in, she shot up, hung up the phone, and glared fiercely at the man before her.
Dressed in a suit, Ethan Yardley looked mature and refined. He stood tall and straight, his entire presence radiating the charm of a successful man.
"Are you all right?" he asked with concern.
’He had, admittedly, been a bit rough last night.’
’But it was her own fault for calling him a "gigolo" and an "old man" over and over.’
’If he hadn’t taught her a lesson, how else could he have vented his frustration?’
Serena Yardley’s cheeks puffed out in anger as she shouted, "Ethan Yardley, you’re a beast! Why did you torment me?"
The man’s eyebrow twitched as he closed in on her.
"I have plenty of other short videos. Want to take another look and decide who was tormenting who?"
Serena Yardley’s gaze flickered, her confidence wavering.
"Al-although I was the one who started it, I was drunk! Things people do when they’re drunk don’t count! You just took advantage of the situation."
"So what if I took advantage of the situation?"
His powerful presence was so overwhelming that even his admission left Serena Yardley at a disadvantage.
Serena Yardley’s chest heaved with anger. She grabbed a nearby throw pillow and hurled it at him.
"You’re such a creep! If you were going to do it, whatever, but why did you have to film it? Delete it! Now!"
"Why should I? If I delete it and you decide to accuse me of something, how am I supposed to defend myself?"
In reality, he had only filmed that one short clip, which he’d already sent her.
He’d done it precisely so she wouldn’t wake up and cause a tearful scene.
It wasn’t like he had a fetish for filming those kinds of videos.
"Ethan Yardley, you bastard! I said delete it!"
When he refused, Serena Yardley grabbed the pillow and threw it at him again.
But a throw pillow could hardly do any damage.
Unwilling to bicker with her, Ethan Yardley simply said, "Go downstairs for dinner."
He turned and left.
Serena Yardley sat on the bed kicking her legs in a fit of rage and screamed, "AHHHHHHH!!!!!"
The piercing scream reached Ethan Yardley’s ears, but he acted as if he hadn’t heard a thing, heading into a separate walk-in closet to change into some loungewear.
「During dinner.」
Serena Yardley kept her head down and focused on her food, not once glancing at the man sitting opposite her.
Ethan Yardley’s handsome face was expressionless, but he watched her with a profound gaze.
Seeing her eating with a hearty appetite, he began to speak slowly.
"From now on, no more drinking. No more going to bars. And no associating with any other men."
Serena Yardley looked up at him. "And why should I listen to you?"
"You will listen only to me."
There it was again—that high-and-mighty attitude of his.
Serena Yardley gritted her teeth. "Who the hell do you think you are? If you won’t divorce me, I’ll go find other men just to piss you off."
Ethan Yardley was speechless.
He pursed his lips, silently telling himself not to lose his temper with her.
’She’s just going through a rebellious phase. It’s normal for her to defy authority.’
’Women need to be coaxed, not strong-armed. Otherwise, it will just backfire.’
"Serena Yardley, you can play whatever games you want, but you need to remember your status as a married woman."
"If you really choose to disregard that status and fool around with other men, making me angry won’t do you any good."
Serena Yardley fell silent.
She quickly lowered her head, using the act of eating to hide her shame.
’She knew married people couldn’t just go out and mess around.’
’But she didn’t want to be with *him*.’
’Was I supposed to just endure this, to spend the rest of my life with him feeling miserable and wronged?’
’That was too painful to contemplate.’
The thought that she, at only twenty years old, was already shackled by this marriage for the rest of her life with no freedom made Serena Yardley feel incredibly aggrieved.
Overwhelmed with self-pity, a tear fell from her eye and plopped right into her bowl.
When Ethan Yardley saw her crying, his heart tightened for reasons he couldn’t explain.
He asked, a pang of pity in his voice, "What are you crying about?"
Serena Yardley replied, her head still bowed.
"I just don’t understand. You’re so powerful, so why insist on keeping me prisoner?"
"I don’t like you now, and I never will. This will only make both of us miserable. Why bother?"
"..."
"The thought of spending my entire life suffering by your side is unbearable. I can’t see any future for myself, and I’m starting to feel like there’s no point in even being alive."
She wasn’t just putting on an act, playing the weak and pitiful girl for his benefit.
These were her true feelings.
She was only twenty years old. Her life had just begun, and yet she was already a wife, controlled at every turn.
What was the point of living like that?
Ethan Yardley frowned and retorted coldly, "You talk as if you’d go on to build some great empire the moment you left me."
Serena Yardley’s head snapped up, and she shot back.
"And why couldn’t I? If you just divorce me, I’ll go after my dreams once I graduate. Who knows, maybe I really will make a name for myself one day!"
Ethan Yardley scoffed. "And even if you did achieve something, what would be the point?"
Serena Yardley was suddenly at a loss.
Ethan Yardley continued.
"The only reasons a woman strives for success are to be financially independent, improve her quality of life, or marry an even better man."
"You’re luckier than most. You haven’t even had to struggle, and you’ve already married one of the wealthiest men in the country."
"In my opinion, conquering a tycoon like me should feel more fulfilling than starting your own business from scratch, don’t you think?"
"Besides, in what way am I unworthy of you? The only real difference is that I’m a decade or so older."
Seeing that he had her attention, Ethan Yardley warmed to his topic, deciding to give her a proper lesson.
"As my wife, I haven’t actually restricted your freedom. As long as you don’t cross any lines, I’ll support you in anything you want to pursue."
"That includes pursuing your own ambitions."
"Let’s take a step back. Even if you don’t like me, you can think of me as family, as an elder. I can be your safety net. Whether you want to start a business or chase your dreams, I’m fine with it."
"Then one day, when you come home, beaten down by the world, won’t it be nice to have a shoulder to lean on?"
"But with that mind of yours, so fixated on getting away from me, I honestly can’t imagine you accomplishing much of anything in the real world. It’s just foolish, don’t you see?"
Serena Yardley was speechless.
It was the first time a man had ever lectured her into silence.
’What he was saying... actually made a lot of sense.’
’And yet, something about it still felt wrong.’
"So get rid of those silly ideas. Be a good girl and do as you’re told, and I’ll give you anything you want. But if you insist on making a scene, life will be difficult for the both of us."
