Chapter 216: Chapter 216: Have You Really Chosen Her?

Looking at James Lockwood, Caden Lockwood coldly spoke: "If you dare to harm her, I’ll fight you to the death."

Saying this, he turned and left the office without waiting for James Lockwood’s response.

James Lockwood sat there, watching Caden Lockwood’s back, without making a sound.

After a long time, James Lockwood finally sighed.

"That boy has never lost control like this before." James Lockwood shook his head, "He won’t listen to warnings. In the future, he’ll face much more hardship."

Raising his eyes and looking out the window, a deep and intense look crossed James Lockwood’s face, making his expression complex and unreadable...

Leaving James Lockwood’s office, Caden Lockwood went to the rooftop.

The air felt oppressive. Even though he had come to this open space, he still felt weighed down.

He stood there with an expression of dejection, helplessness, restlessness, uneasiness, indifference, and yet a strong sense of reluctance.

Looking up at the sky, his brow was tightly furrowed. His black suit accentuated his perfect physique, exuding an aura of authority that kept strangers at bay.

"Caden." Shannon Dunn approached him. "I’m here to apologize. The misunderstanding between you and Evelyn was all caused by me."

Caden Lockwood turned and looked at Shannon Dunn, his eyes filled with cold indifference.

"I’m really sorry," Shannon Dunn said softly. "I hope... you can forgive me."

"Do you never refuse?" Caden Lockwood asked harshly. "No matter what the chairman asks you to do, you’ll do it?"

"The chairman is the one who promoted me to where I am now. Loyalty to him is my duty." Shannon Dunn’s face showed the right amount of helplessness. "Right and wrong are relative. The chairman believes he is right, and you believe you are right."

Caden Lockwood sneered coldly, "If you think you’re not wrong, why bother to apologize?"

"I never told Evelyn that the divorce agreement was given to me by you," Shannon Dunn lowered her gaze. "She lacks trust in you, so she assumed everything was orchestrated by you as soon as she saw me."

Upon hearing this, Caden Lockwood’s brow furrowed tighter.

For Shannon Dunn’s words, he felt full of anger but couldn’t refute her.

"It’s said that hardship can test true love, and that’s true," Shannon Dunn continued. "Yet your relationship with Evelyn provides opportunities for the chairman to exploit. A woman like her really becoming Mrs. Lockwood would probably cause you a lot of trouble."

Shannon Dunn smiled and asked again, "But, have you really chosen her?"

Caden Lockwood’s dark eyes narrowed, responding coldly, "Are you here to apologize or to probe?"

Seeing the rejection and vigilance surrounding Caden Lockwood, Shannon Dunn gently sighed, "I hope you both can overcome difficulties together in the future."

With that, she gave an apologetic smile and turned to leave.

Caden Lockwood stood there, watching Shannon Dunn’s back, his expression filled with unsightly turmoil.

He couldn’t help but admire Shannon Dunn’s ability as a master of "words."

Her few seemingly bland words struck directly at the uncertainty within his heart.

It’s no wonder his father valued her so much.

Tightening his brow, at this moment, he didn’t want to think much but only wanted to do one thing.

He pulled out his phone, thinking Evelyn Morgan should be awake by now.

After some hesitation, he dialed her number.

Evelyn Morgan was still asleep, having no intention of waking up.

After every exam, she would sleep thoroughly for several days to relieve the exhaustion of the semester.

Until the phone ringing mocked her, she lazily opened one eye, casually grabbed her phone, not even looking at the name, and lazily said, "Hello..."

She sounded like a small kitten, her soft voice melting one’s heart.
