Chapter 220: Chapter 220:

Evelyn wore a light blue dress today, adorned with a white swan pattern that perfectly accentuated her waistline. Her long black hair cascaded over her chest, and from his angle, he could just catch a glimpse of her profile.

Her lips were thin and red, her watery eyes twinkling, beautiful enough to take one’s breath away.

Evelyn was so nervous she didn’t dare to breathe. She knew Caden Lockwood was watching her, but she didn’t dare to even glance at him out of the corner of her eye.

Dammit!

Why did she have to wear a dress?

And... just when he invited her out, no less.

Could she still manage to change in time?

Otherwise, what if he misunderstood and thought she dressed up for him?

"You’re back?" Her voice was full of panic, "I’ll just... change clothes, be right back!"

Saying that, she randomly grabbed an outfit and prepared to dash to the bathroom.

She hadn’t taken more than a few steps when Caden caught her wrist, pulling her into his embrace.

With his forehead against hers, he whispered, "Dressed up so nicely, are you trying to win my favor?"

"No..."

Her mouth had barely opened before he leaned in, capturing her lips with his own.

Wasn’t this kind of contact between them happening too often?

Every time he never got her consent, and only after being kissed did she think of resisting.

It was only when Evelyn’s lips began to feel sore that Caden finally released her.

Tilting her chin up, he softly said, "My lady, you’re truly beautiful."

Evelyn lowered her head, not daring to meet Caden’s gaze, her whole being tense and as still as a statue.

Caden’s lips curled into a smile, satisfaction brimming in his eyes as he gazed at her, seemingly pondering something.

She felt awfully self-conscious under his gaze, mumbled, "What’s wrong?"

"With the lady dressed so beautifully, shouldn’t I change too, to be worthy of the lady?" Caden asked with a smile.

"What more can you do to look good?" Evelyn instinctively replied, looking up, "You’re already so handsome..."

Halfway through speaking, she quickly shut her mouth, her ears turning crimson.

Oh God!

Why did she let her guard down and say what she was thinking out loud?

"In the lady’s eyes, am I already as handsome as can be?" Caden chuckled softly, "So this is how highly you think of me."

"Cece must already be waiting for us!" Evelyn could only change the subject, "Let’s hurry! It’s our first dinner invitation, we can’t be late!"

"At your command!" Caden continued to tease Evelyn.

Watching her red face and seeing her run downstairs, he noticed her footing was steady again.

Thankfully.

She was alright.

Breathing a sigh of relief, Caden looked at himself in the mirror, adjusted his suit, and after a long moment, regained his confidence through Evelyn’s beauty, convinced he wouldn’t embarrass himself standing by her side.

How strange!

How could even his always-proud looks feel overshadowed at this moment?

Shaking his head, Caden smiled a puzzled smile, then followed in Evelyn’s footsteps, waiting to meet her best friend.
