Slowly Falling into His Love Trap-Chapter 268: You Must Think I’m Cheap, Right?
Evelyn Morgan made an effort to keep her lips lifting upwards, making herself look as if she was smiling.
When she met eyes with Cecilia Lynch, Evelyn greeted her as usual, appearing especially warm.
Cecilia Lynch moved her lips slightly, looking at Evelyn sitting opposite her, she said softly, "I’ve already ordered the food, all the dishes you love."
"We both have similar tastes, what I love to eat is what you love too!" Evelyn laughed, "Cece, actually, I’ve been wanting to ask you out for a meal for a long time, but you’ve been so busy, so let me treat this time!"
"Evelyn..."
"Besides, my scholarship should be a sure thing, let’s consider this an early celebration!" Evelyn said in a hearty tone.
"Evelyn," Cecilia’s tone was soft and sticky, "I asked you out because...because I..."
The words that followed, she couldn’t seem to say.
Cecilia clenched her fists tightly, being Julian Keaton’s lover, she really didn’t know how to bring it up.
She felt very ashamed, very regretful, very helpless.
She wanted to break free, but somehow, she couldn’t.
"Cece." Evelyn spoke first.
She couldn’t bear to see Cecilia’s face, which was overwhelmingly sorrowful.
Some things, she didn’t need to know entirely.
She trusted Cecilia unconditionally.
"Actually, we all encounter many difficulties. When I became my uncle’s wife, it was actually due to many compelling reasons, which you know." Saying this, Evelyn held Cecilia’s hand, her beautiful big eyes brimming with sincerity, "So, don’t feel burdened, no matter what happens, we are the best of friends!"
Hearing Evelyn’s words, Cecilia’s face suddenly changed.
"You..." Cecilia’s eyes were quivering, she stammered and asked, "You... knew all along?"
Evelyn hesitated for a moment, then nodded.
Cecilia’s tears suddenly fell.
She looked at Evelyn, crying, "How did you find out? Who told you? When did you know?"
"Cece, don’t cry!" Evelyn was anxious, "I only found out yesterday!"
"I didn’t intentionally keep it from you." Cecilia choked up, "I just... I... I didn’t know what to do! Sob, sob, sob—You surely think I’m cheap, right?"
"Absolutely not!" Evelyn raised her voice, her eyes filled with sincerity, "Cece, do I not know what kind of person you are? I won’t let you belittle yourself like that!"
"But..."
"There is no ’but’." Evelyn said sternly, "I’ve said it, you’re my best and closest friend! If you have any difficulties, you can always talk to me!"
"We have no other way." Cecilia shook her head, "Evelyn, my mom’s illness requires a lot, a lot of money. If I don’t do this, just earning through part-time work wouldn’t be nearly enough!"
Evelyn looked at Cecilia, deeply feeling Cecilia’s helplessness.
Cecilia resorting to selling herself, it must be because she was left with no choice!
The pain felt like a heart being torn, while the wealthy buy a car for hundreds of thousands, or even millions.
Yet they, wanting to save a life, could not come up with the money.
The sorrow of being poor, Evelyn had always understood.
It was precisely for this reason she realized, the gap between her and Caden Lockwood was indeed not just a little bit. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
"It’s okay." Evelyn softly comforted, "This doesn’t change anything! You’re still you, the kind, pure, and optimistic Cecilia Lynch!"
