Chapter 270: Chapter 270: Worried She Might Be a Wicked Mother-in-Law

"Evelyn." Caden Lockwood’s voice came through the phone, "I’ll be right there."

Hearing Caden Lockwood’s voice, Evelyn Morgan’s legs went weak, and her eyes trembled with uncertainty, not daring to look at Lily Thorne.

There was no other way, she could only get into the car.

Sitting next to Lily Thorne, Evelyn felt as if her whole body was frozen, and she couldn’t help but shiver.

"Having a sense of caution is a good thing." Lily Thorne glanced around at Evelyn Morgan, "But since it’s been confirmed that I’m indeed Caden’s mother, shouldn’t you greet me?"

Evelyn’s breath caught, and looking at Lily, her lips curled awkwardly, and it took her a while to squeeze out a word: "Mom."

"That’s more like it." Lily’s tone was indifferent, "It’s also my fault, I should have come to see you earlier. It’s quite a failure for a daughter-in-law not to know her mother-in-law until now."

As she spoke, Lily brushed her hair from her forehead and tucked it behind her ear.

Watching Lily’s action, Evelyn’s heart slightly trembled.

She remembered, back then, her mother also liked to use her pinky to brush her hair.

Her mother told her that the pinky wasn’t used often, so it should be used more.

All these years, besides her mother, the only other person she saw using her pinky to brush her hair was Lily Thorne.

Thinking of her deceased parents, Evelyn’s nose tingled, and as she looked at Lily, there was a newfound sense of closeness.

It was as if in Lily, Evelyn could feel a shadow of her mother.

"What is it?" Lily’s lips curled in a faint smile, "Worried I might be a wicked mother-in-law?"

"No!" Evelyn hurriedly shook her head, "Sorry, I was a bit... out of sorts."

"She’s quite a charming girl." Lily said softly, "No wonder, Caden would upset his father like that for you."

Evelyn lowered her eyes and gave an awkward smile, not knowing what to say.

Caden Lockwood’s father clearly didn’t like her, hoping Eleanor Keaton would become the daughter-in-law of The Lockwood Family instead.

She wondered if Caden’s mother would also have such class biases.

Besides, Evelyn was quite puzzled why she hadn’t met Caden’s mother before.

"My health hasn’t been great, and I spend most of my time in the hospital." Lily explained softly, "I’ve always wanted to meet my daughter-in-law, but my precious son always found excuses, saying the timing wasn’t right. I was wondering, were you unwilling to meet me?"

Evelyn frowned, why didn’t Caden bring her to meet his mother?

Did he think she would be disdained by his mother?

Otherwise, he never even mentioned it to her!

"It’s not what you think." Evelyn’s tone was dull, "Maybe... Caden was worried I would disturb you."

"Meeting one’s daughter-in-law, what’s there to disturb?" Lily asked.

Evelyn was speechless, the question leaving her breathless.

She didn’t know why Caden never brought her to meet his mother!

The only explanation she could think of was... he felt she wasn’t good enough.

She only knew he resented his father.

But towards his mother, he should still feel respect.

Lily stopped talking, and after arriving at the café with Evelyn, the two sat across from each other.

Evelyn sat tensely, not daring to move or speak, just hoping Caden would come quickly to save her.

"Has Caden told you everything about our family?" Lily asked softly, "Including those... absolutely not to be shared with outsiders, do you know about those?"

[PS: My dears, take a guess, will Lily be a good mother-in-law or a wicked one?]
