Sold to the Capo-Chapter 136: A FATHER’S LAST WISH
ADRIANA’S POV
As soon as I pushed the door to the room open at the mansion, I leaned heavily on the doorframe, tears staining my face as I sobbed silently.
It was better as we had spoken but there was void in my chest that refused to be filled. I didn’t want to show vulnerability, not in front of anyone so I found myself sliding to the floor in the privacy of my room, sobbing, pulling my legs and hugging it to my chest so I could bury my face in them.
"You alright?" A sudden voice made me jerk and i peeked up to see Master LaRosa staring down at me with a frown on his face when he saw the tears.
I quickly cleaned my face and stood to my feet, my face taking on a neutral expression. "I didn’t realize you were inside. I could have sworn I locked the door" My gaze darted to the bag in his hand.
He smirked, his brows crinkling. "Lucky for you, I have a key to the house so... and I’m also surprisingly light on my feet"
"Not surprised" I muttered, folding my hands across my chest as I walked back down the stairs so we could sit in the living room. "He’s doing better..."
"Oh I know. He’ll be awake in a few hours and if there’s no relapse, he’ll come back home. I made sure of that. Can’t keep the capo away for too long so people don’t start getting too many ideas" He adjusted his collar as he spoke.
A light scoff escaped me. "If he’s to come home tomorrow, he’s not doing a single job in the forsaken family. I’m not letting him work"
"Neither will he. Technically I’m supposed to be in my place but if I was to take charge, you wouldn’t like my rule, trust me. He won’t let you stress yourself. I take it that you’ll tell him about...the heir"
"Oh..." my hands cradled my stomach and I looked at him. "That’s between my husband and I"
He smiled slightly and dropped the bag on the table, his legs crossed. There was a lighter air around him, as though Vincenzo’s recovery had taken a weight off his shoulders and now his smiles even though rare seemed to be genuine. "So I take it you’re staying?"
I paused and looked down at my fingers. "That’s none of your business" I muttered.
"Fair point. Guess what we got" He nodded to the bag and I pulled it closer to myself.
As soon as I opened, I pulled out a leather bound book that was locked and I gasped. "The ledger?" My tone was filled with hope.
It was the legder and I looked it over again, a smile on my face as I stared at Master LaRosa.
"Yep. It’s back in the house. Now it’s up to us what to do with it. I should go check on the family’s guests" He stood up abruptly and a part of me wanted to tell him that I wanted to go with him. I wanted to see Julius and Lord Rossi... Henry... I wanted to see them all...they were being held by the family and I knew they were probably going through hell.
"Are you going to kill them?" I asked, bile rising in my throat.
He was adjusting his coat and he looked at me with a shrug. "Not my place"
Right. Not his place. He was simply making sure they weren’t comfortable till it was time to do the needful.
"Get some rest. I’ll tell Val to take care of the rest. Vincenzo will be back tomorrow, Adriana...Whatever needs to be done..." He clicked his fingers at me. "Do it now"
I took a shaky breath. "You may leave"
He nodded and walked out while I looked at the ledger in my hand. We couldn’t afford a repeat of what had happened. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
I walked back up the stairs and went straight to the room where I dropped the ledger on the bed before walking to the window, looking out of it with a small sigh escaping my lips.
The compound was alive with murmurs and chatters from guards patrolling the mansion.
Looking at the legder again, I turned back to the starry sky, a small smile on my lips. It was now or never.
I pulled out my phone from my pocket and texted someone quickly before I walked back down the stairs, my heart pounding in my chest.
My heart was in my throat as I paced about the house, waiting for who I texted and thankfully, a few minutes later, there was a light knock on the door. With a deep breath, I walked over to it and pulled it open to see the man staring at me, his expression blank.
"Hey, come in" I stepped aside for him to enter.
He stepped in and watched me close the door. "I... I was in the vicinity with the Garots so I came down here as soon as I got your text" He stuffed his hands in his pockets, a sad smile on his lips.
I wanted to swallow down the nerves but it was hard, knowing that this was a big decision. "Micㅡ" I started but he was quick to cut me off, the sadness in his voice making me break inwardly.
"Dad" He corrected softly. "If you’re gonna tell me to leave, you can as well just call me Dad once... I want to hear it"
My brows furrowed as I felt my heart drop into the pits of my stomach. "How did you..." I trailed off because he wasn’t wrong.
He smiled slightly but the smile didn’t light up his eyes. "It’s all over your expression and honestly I can’t blame you. Doesn’t change a damn thing between us because you’ll always be my daughter and really... I’m proud of you. You’re everything you should be, you’re everything I dreamed of, everything your mother dreamed of... that’s more than enough..." His voice broke off and he pulled me into a hug, his voice tight. "I’ll leave tomorrow... without you but... I will always love you, you’re always going to be my bella. I don’t care if you chose to remain here as Adriana, you’re my little girl and I will always support you, Adriana"
My hands tightened around him and I felt safe in his arms so I buried my face in his clothes, struggling to hold back the tears. "I love you, Dad."
I really did. He was everything I ever wanted in a father. He was everything.
