Sons of a devil-Chapter 51: Echoes in the abyss
Chapter 51 - Echoes in the abyss
The sky hung low, heavy with the promise of another storm. Rain hadn't fallen yet, but the clouds churned like a pot of boiling ink, threatening to unleash the fury of the heavens. The boys had seen weather like this before—right before a massacre, right before betrayal. Right before something important died.
Cain walked silently, his eyes fixed on the path ahead, boots crunching over brittle leaves and forgotten bones. His coat was soaked in blood that wasn't his, and Selene walked beside him, their hands brushing now and then. Neither said a word, but their silence wasn't uncomfortable. It was heavy, filled with the weight of all they'd survived.
Behind them, Leo and Eren followed quietly, their forms a little slower than usual. Ever since Eira's sacrifice, the air between them had shifted. They carried grief like armor now—wearing it tight against their chests, afraid to speak her name out loud.
"She shouldn't have died for us," Eren muttered, kicking a rock.
Leo, ever the calm one, looked toward the tree line. "She chose to. That means something."
"But does it fix anything?" Eren snapped. "Because all I see are ghosts."

Cain didn't look back. "Ghosts are all that's left when you've fought this long."
Selene gently touched his arm, grounding him. "But they don't have to be all you are."
A beat of silence followed. Then—
"Someone's watching us," Leo said suddenly, stopping in his tracks.
Cain's hand flew to the hilt of his dagger. "From where?"
Leo tilted his head. "Right. There."
From the edge of the forest, a figure stepped out.
Cloaked in a black hood and silver mask, their aura screamed danger. The energy in the air shifted like static on skin. A new enemy? Or someone worse—someone familiar?
The figure spoke, voice distorted, but soft. "So it's true. The devil's children still walk."
Eren groaned. "Can we go five minutes without being hunted like we're on some hit list?"
"You are," the figure said simply. "There's a bounty on your heads in the nine underworlds."
Cain stepped forward. "And who the hell are you?"
The figure removed the mask.
It was a girl. Maybe their age—long white hair braided down her back, gold eyes sharp with fury.
"I'm Seraphine," she said. "Eira's twin sister."
The air stopped moving.
"No way," Leo whispered.
"I don't believe you," Eren said immediately. "Eira never mentioned—"
"She wouldn't," Seraphine cut in. "Because I was the one who joined Father. The one she hated. The one who let the darkness in."
Selene's breath caught. "You're... part demon."
"More than part," Seraphine said, raising a hand. Shadows crawled up her fingers like hungry vines. "And I've come to finish what she started."
Cain narrowed his eyes. "You mean protect us?"
She laughed coldly. "No, Cain. I mean kill you. Because she died thinking you were worth it. I'm here to prove she was wrong."
Suddenly, the forest exploded into chaos.
Black thorns erupted from the earth, twisting toward them with violent speed. Cain tackled Selene out of the way, Eren threw knives like lightning, and Leo summoned a defensive shield made of shimmering sigils.
Cain's body burned with dark energy. Not his father's—but something older, deeper. His eyes flashed crimson as he launched himself at Seraphine.
They clashed midair—devil-born and cursed-blooded, each blow shaking the very ground.
"I didn't want to fight you," Cain growled.
"But you were always meant to," Seraphine snapped. "This is fate, Cain! You're not heroes. You're weapons!"
"Then we choose what we fight for," Cain shouted, slamming her into a tree with brute force.
Behind him, Selene stood, eyes glowing with ancestral power. She raised her hands, casting a seal circle in midair.
"Stand down," she warned Seraphine. "Or I'll bind you in place."
Seraphine sneered. "Do it. Show me you're all monsters."
The power cracked like thunder.
Then—Seraphine vanished, swallowed by a teleportation rune.
Silence returned, broken only by heavy breaths and distant thunder.
"She'll be back," Leo said.
"And she'll be worse," Eren muttered.
Cain turned to Selene. "We need to end this. Once and for all."
Selene reached for him, her fingers brushing the wound on his cheek. "Then we'll do it together."
The sky finally wept, rain falling over the broken world.
But the brothers walked on.
Because monsters or not... they were still the sons of a devil.
And they weren't done yet.
