Souls Online: Mythic Ascension-Chapter 85: Vine and Dandy

Lily felt like she was going to throw up as she held Horo's severed arm in her hands. The limb was rather cool to the touch and the violet color of muscles and blood made it seem like it was fake.

"Lily. Can I get a hand over here? Hahaha...Oww?"

"How can you joke about this asshole?! You lost an arm!"

Horo winced as Lily smacked him upside the head on reflex, however as per usual, her physical strength was an absolute joke and it only left a dull ache in her own hand.

"So what are we going to do about this?"

None of their potions would work on something like this yet Horo didn't seem to be too bothered.

"Can you create a vine or something? Also careful, my blood might be a tad corrosive~"

He asked as he gingerly took his arm from Lily's hand. He was genuinely concerned about his poisonous blood hurting her. Leo raised an eyebrow at his remark as well.

"A tad corrosive? Dude, it made that sturdy armor melt like it was made of cotton candy!"

Yet Lily was far too concerned about Horo's wellbeing to notice the joke

"Yeah I can do that I think....Why are you asking?"

"Oh nothing much. I just plan to tie my stump and arm together again and let nature take it's course~"

"Arms don't grow back!"

"I know that. I am just reattaching it!"

"So let me get this straight...Are you going to use the vine as an impromptu bandaid?!"

"Yup!"

Lily could feel frustration welling up as she turned to look at Leo whose own expression was awkward listening to Horo's mad idea.

"Fine. Do whatever you want!"

With no other choice, she shoved the limb towards his chest and stood up and tried to create a vine using some nearby moss as the material.

Nyx sauntered over as well to watch the debacle as Luna nad Tetsukiba resorted to a slugfest. While she initially intended to help Luna fight, the look in her eyes sent a shiver of fear down her spine.

Fragments of metal were scattered as she swung her axe with reckless abandon. Her weapon had already dulled to the point that it was practically a blunt weapon yet each blow was utterly devastating. One misstep could lead to death for anyone careless enough to get in her way.

'If I tried to jump in there...She might really try to kill me!'

Turning away from Luna who was thoroughly enjoying herself, she shot an amused glance at Horo's arm before remarking

"I gotta hand it to you. That was a nice plan but maybe tell us beforehand next time so it doesn't get out of hand. 'Kay~?"

"I'll try. It was a joint effort though, I can't take all the credit~"

Nyx and Horo making horrible puns caused the other party members to groan in annoyance. Yet Leo couldn't help but notice that Horo and Nyx were far less antagonistic than they used to be.

Leo pinched the bridge of his nose as he resisted the headache that was beginning to form.

'These two getting along should be a good thing...but why do I get the feeling this is the start of an annoying friendship...annoying for us that is..'

Lily was sweating a bit as she handed Sonata the vine, causing the young songstress to look a bit confused as if to ask 'Why me?'

"Horo is being gross. I don't want to throw up on him... unfortunately."

Sonata and Leo exchanged awkward looks at the idea that Lily might ever want  to throw up on someone.

Horo stopped his joking banter with Nyx as he noticed Sonata holding the vine rope. He used his severed arm and made a small waving motion with it as he called out to her.

"Sonata, can you give me a hand here? I need some help~"

Nyx chuckled as she went down on one knee near him and asked with a smug smirk on her face.

"I can also lend you a hand and protect you since you are a bit unarmed right now~"

"Oh that would be great. Two hands are better than one."

"Oh my fucking god... Quit it with the puns you two!"

Leo finally snapped and yelled at the two of them while Lily facepalmed. Sonata shot the two bystanders a look as if they had betrayed her. The puns were just awful.

After a moment, Lily whispered to Leo

"Is it wrong I kinda liked it better when they argued with each other?"

Leo kept his eyes on Horo's arm as Nyx held the severed limb while Sonata tied vine around his arm like some sort of meaty sushi roll.

'This is so gross...'

Sonata was cringing inwards as she didn't even want to look at her 'handiwork'. There was no scientific basis for it and couldn't understand why Horo was acting like a bit of spit and polish would fix his arm getting cut off!

There was a sizzling noise coming from the grotesque bandage but Horo didn't complain in the slightest. To the surprise of his part members, it only took a minute before the digits of the severed limb began to twitch...

"What the fu..."

Lily found herself utterly dumbfounded at the purely unscientific method of how Horo was recovering. She could feel another wave of irritation when she saw Horo threw her a provocative look as if to mock her and proof that he was right.

Leo was about to say something when a screen appeared in front of his eyes, causing him to be both shocked and pleasantly surprised.

Horo frowned a bit as he watched a droplet of his thick blood crystallized into an amethyst colored prism. That small gem floated into the air before flying towards Leo. With a soft click, the amethyst gem slot into one of the grooves of the obsidian gauntlet that housed Mors' ego.

Nyx and Sonata were confused and curious about the mysterious gem but before either of them could ask, Leo turned to Nyx with a question.

"Hey Nyx, can you give me some of the materials we looted before?"

The sudden question caused Nyx to raise a questioning eyebrow.

"Sure... But why do you want it now of all times, Cutie?"

Turning his head to face Leo, he had a playful smile on his face as he remarked

"Time to feed the kiddies? Did Astra say she was hungry or was Mors whining~?"

Roars of indignation washed over Leo's mind as both Astra and Mors' complained. Yet despite the volume, them speaking at the same time made it impossible for him to understand what they were saying.

"No. I hope that I can unlock a new weapon form. These gauntlets and the chain only work on humanoid monsters.

"Oh that's right! Daddy form used chains!"

Lily suddenly raised her voice as she remembered that Leo did in fact use a different weapon form. Nyx on the other hand had a thoroughly amused expression as she glanced over Leo.

"A form that makes girls call you 'Daddy' AND you use chains like some kind of Dom? Are you trying to make me even more down bad?!"

Leo blushed slightly before he shot her a withering glare.

"You can shut up. Just lay yout the materials."

Nyx grumbled in annoyance yet still complied with his words.

Moments later, there were fangs, fur pelts, bones and even some mysterious slabs of meat piled together. He shot a questioning glance at Nyx who shrugged in response. She had no idea either.

"[Invocation of Evolution]"

As soon as the were spoken, his gauntlets warped into ravenous mouths that lunged towards the offered materials.

"Gross"

"Well that's creepy..."

"Wow..."

The girls were all equally creeped out by the display but nobody had the time to dwell on it as a new notice screen appeared before everyone's eyes.

Just as everyone read the message, there was a loud bang followed b a scream.

A blur shot by them smashing into a rock.

The blur turned out to be Luna who lay crumpled against the wall, utterly unconscious and barely clinging to life. The handle of her weapon remained clutched in her hands yet the blade of the axe itself was missing as if it had been shattered in an attempt to block the strike.

"LUNA!"

Lily rushed towards her best friend to check on her while Leo turned his gaze back towards where she came from.

Standing there with a malevolent aura was a small kobold holding a large sword, the blade was tinged with a dark red aura as scattered remains of sturdy armor fragments lay sprinkled across ground around it.

The air became heavy and stagnant as the oppressive malice pressed down on them. The beast opened it's mouth and instead of a howl, it spoke a single word with a cold murderous tone.

"Death...!"
