Sovereign of the Ashes-Chapter 1464: Persevere
Martini was far older than Sein. In fact, he appeared to be around forty or fifty thousand years old, a whole generation older than Lorianne.
The lifespan of a Rank Four being was hard to define.
Tens of thousands of years was normal, and for the rare few who devoted themselves to preserving their vitality, even a hundred thousand, or two hundred thousand, years was not impossible.
With that kind of age came an extensive web of connections across Magus World.
Tychus, though also a Rank Four Knight, was far younger and did not have as many “friends” and “brethren” as Martini.
After the Radbow World campaign, Martini clearly saw Sein as not just his savior, but a brother-in-arms who had faced life and death beside him. However, he was not the type to say that out loud.
When he arrived at Sein’s laboratory, Martini thumped his chest and said, “Master Sein, if you ever need anything, just say the word. Even if it’s a suicide mission, I won’t flinch. This life of mine belongs to you!”
His blunt declaration left Sein momentarily speechless. To be honest, saving Martini had been more about survival than compassion.
After offering a few words of reassurance, Sein walked him out of the laboratory.
The situation on Radbow World was still tense. Rank Four powerhouses like Sein and Martini barely had a few days of rest before they had to rejoin the fight.
For Sein, he had just withdrawn from the frontline when new orders summoned him again.
The Eye Demon legion from the Grand Eye Demon World was troublesome enough, but the relentless Gallant Federation fleets were the real threat.
In recent years, they had launched one merciless assault after another against Radbow World.
Sein had to stay vigilant and always be prepared for the possibility that those federal fleets might force them into a desperate fight by destroying the plane itself.
After years of brutal warfare, Radbow World was already pushed to its limit.
Sometimes, Sein even regretted shattering this world’s core back then.
But how could he have known things would turn out this way? He was not an astrologer who could perform divination, after all.
“Take these two potions with you, Sir Martini. The sector you’re guarding is just as critical. Whatever happens, don’t let the Gallant Federation fleets get anywhere near that planar node. Radbow is already on the verge of collapse.”
Sein pushed the two vials firmly into Martini’s hands as he spoke.
The potions had been crafted by Sein himself over the past two years. Most of the high-grade ones Lorianne had given him, aside from the Golden Apple Potions, were nearly gone by now.
Martini understood what Sein was saying, being more seasoned than Tychus.
“Don’t worry, I’ll hold that line!” he replied with steady conviction.
He hesitated for a moment, then added with a faint smile, “It’s a blessing to have you here, Master Sein. If not for you, Radbow would’ve fallen long ago. If we make it till the Magus Civilization sends reinforcements, I’ll make sure you’re rewarded properly!
“My brethren from the Knights’ Edict will stand with you too. If you ever need anything, just say the word, and we’ll back you without question!”
The Knights’ Edict was an organization roughly on par with the Elemental Gate founded by Grandmaster Feylis.
There was no harm in forming ties with a knightly faction like that, but Sein only gave a quiet nod.
For now, words were meaningless. They had to make sure they could live long enough to see the Magus Civilization’s reinforcements arrive first.
After seeing Martini off, Sein returned to his laboratory and picked up the half-mended magic robe before him.
The fabric was woven from the divine spider silk of the Spider Queen, Lorthisra.
It struck him then—how long it had been since he last heard from her? He wondered where she was now.
And Leena in Blackhaven, who had already advanced to Rank Four... What secret mission was she carrying out with the Tower Master of Cinderbones?
Sein let out a quiet sigh.
He had barely rested inside the space fortress before word arrived that powerful federal warships had appeared on the frontlines.
Sein was once again called into battle.
The Gallant Federation had clearly identified him, the wielder of a world-class treasure, as one of their greatest threats.
He had already faced death twice and was forced to use his Golden Apple Potions to survive after being surrounded by fleets with Rank Five firepower.
Luckily, the Rank Five Eye Demon that appeared on Radbow World had been kept occupied by the Huusian King.
Otherwise, Sein’s situation might have been far worse.
As Sein returned to the battlefield, Yuri joined the fight beside him once more in her Burning Flame Unit.
For the past twenty years, she had stayed by his side without ever leaving him.
The Magic Cube, another world-class treasure in Sein’s possession, could not directly boost his strength on the battlefield like the Faceless Mask. However, it did assist in periodically repairing Yuri’s Burning Flame Unit between battles.
The two had stood firm on the frontlines, keeping the Magus Civilization’s defenses from collapsing.
Martini had been right. The fact that the battle had lasted this long was largely because of Sein.
When Sein returned to the battlefield, a vast sea of federal warships and drones filled the void before him.
Below, the broken land of Radbow World was buried beneath heaps of metal scraps and the mangled remains of fallen creatures.
The war had become a bottomless pit, endlessly devouring lives from both sides.
Even though the Gallant Federation commanded an enormous number of drones, their warships still needed human pilots.
Unfortunately, Radbow World lacked the low-tier robot legions that could serve as expendable cannon fodder.
If they had, he might have tried taking control of them using the Magic Cube.
Just then, a massive interstellar fortress slowly loomed from behind the enemy’s line.
Its size rivaled even Magus World’s own space fortresses.
It was the first time Sein had seen a structure like that appear on the Radbow battlefield, and his heart sank.
The arrival of such a fortress could only mean one thing: fresh reinforcements for the Gallant Federation.
Sein turned his gaze skyward. High above the dark expanse, only drifting plumes of black smoke and scattered scraps of metal remained.
There was no sign of reinforcements from the Magus Civilization.
Even Sein had no idea how much longer they could hold out.
Tightening his grip around his magic rod, he began chanting, summoning a vast sea of flames that descended upon the battlefield.
Several destructive energy beams shot past from his flank, striking directly at the interstellar fortress.
It was Yuri, coming to his aid.
After years of fighting side by side, their coordination on the battlefield had become almost seamless.
