Space Odyssey: Spectre-Chapter 170: Biomechanical Chaos
Chapter 170: Biomechanical Chaos
Jace smacked the side of a rocket pod as he fell. He held tightly onto the Dragon’s Breath. But as he spun through the air after bouncing off the rocket pod he brought up the tower shield and fell. He was falling toward a bunker and crashed into the concrete roof.
The tower shield took most of the impact but he still lost his breath. Then he began sliding and fell off the rounded roof and landed on an area covered in gravel. He slowly pulled himself up as he disabled the tower shield.
He was feeling a bit disoriented but he was shaking it off as he looked around. There were several concrete barriers and there was an asphalt road running right by where he was. He could also see several of those biomechanical figures standing around. In one of his arms was the Dragon’s Breath rotary machine gun with half a charge on its current battery. On his back was his assault rifle which probably had scratches but was still intact.
As he looked around the biomechanical creatures were unmoving almost like they were surprised. Most of them were unarmed but a few had some laser based weapons.
"Spectre Jace, are you reading me?" Hammers asked over the radio channel. Then almost like it was the trigger everything went into motion.
One of the biomechanical creatures raised their weapon towards Jace. Jace ducked his body as he moved toward it. Grabbing the barrel and pointing it towards another biomechanical creature.
Jace kicked the side of the biomechanical creature in front of him. He could hear a metal creak accompanied by the sound of snapping bones as its leg broke to the side. He then raised his Dragon’s Breath and began firing as he spun around this biomechanical creature.
Each bolt did damage as he spun around the biomechanical creature. Some bolts melted skin and others went right through metal. Destroying the creature as the bolts landed. Others were pushed back by the impact.
Once Jace was behind the biomechanical creature he let go of the barrel and moved forward. He ran towards the road and watched the chopper flying in the distance. He continued running as other biomechanical creatures jumped into action and began firing at him.
"Jace fell out of the chopper!" Parrot called out. "Shit incoming!" As she screamed out he could see a rocket hit the back of the chopper. It veered to the side as smoke began billowing out of it.
"Mayday Mayday, we have been hit! We are going down-" Tako was cut off as another rocket hit the top of the chopper and it fell out of the sky.
Jace cursed under his breath as he was using the concrete dividers as cover. He ran forward, disregarding the slew of enemies he was surrounded by. But he suddenly cursed and had to duck behind cover as a vehicle pulled in front of him at an intersection. On the back was a biomechanical creature with a rotary heavy machine gun.
This gun had three instead of six as he moved behind cover he understood why as the impact of the bullets was loud. Those were not laser guns or even hard light, it was like a high powered gun with solid ammunition like what the Vexical Empire uses.
"Can we get someone over to them?" Dahlia asked over the channel as it began screaming with other people talking over the channel.
Jace rolled his eyes as he quickly organized the channel to separate the different channels based on location and command structure. At the same time he had to move to the side as the concrete divider began cracking. "Do not fly over to our location. There are so many rocket pods and anti-air weapons it would be a nightmare." Jace instructed as he ran across the road to another corner where untouched concrete dividers were located.
But instead of hiding he fired at the side of the biomechanical creature that was on the back. The first bolt caused the creature to fall to the ground but the second one triggered the ammunition on the vehicle and it exploded.
Jace ducked down as shrapnel flew into the walls and everywhere. He cursed as he destroyed something he could have really used in his current situation.
"You are still alive? I thought you fell out of the chopper?" Dahlia asked in surprise.
"Yeah, well I am in a hive of enemies and still having to fix the communication channels. My friendly tag should also be up, so I do not see the problem. You can check my status at any time." Jace reminded her as he began running down the road.
"How did you fall out of the chopper?" Dahlia seemed to be really distracted by what was happening over here.
"The harness snapped." That actually reminded Jace of something as he crouched down and disconnected the remains of the harness that was attached to him. "I was leaning out to shoot rockets out of the air when Tako did a maneuver that fully pushed me out of the chopper. So I fell out."
"Will you be able to get to the others without much issue? Or will you need backup?" Hammers asked, now business like since he was aware of what was going on now.
Jace checked his display as he ran through another intersection and saw a group of vehicles coming towards him. His heads up display indicated that Parrot and Tako were both unconscious but alive. Tako was injured with a breach in his armor.
"I will be fine. But you will need to find a way to this central structure. Because flying is a big no." Jace told them as he spun around as one of the vehicles rounded a corner and he fired the last of his bolts at the vehicle. It slammed into one of the concrete dividers as it stopped working.
Jace cursed under his breath as he pulled out his assault rifle and put the Dragon’s Breath on his back. The group of vehicles were blocked for the moment but it would not take him long. He turned and continued running down the asphalt road.
In the distance he could see smoke coming up from the crash site. It looks like they crashed at the corner of an intersection in the distance. Right next to a concrete bunker with a rocket pod on the roof. He could use that as cover while they recovered.
As Jace was about to cross the next intersection a pair of vehicles came screeching to a halt in front of him. Instead of stopping he put his force and inertia into kicking the first vehicle which looked like a transport for soldiers.
There was a loud screech as it slid along the intersection. A large dent was now visible near the rear end. The front end moved towards him but flipped on its side from the unexpected motion.
Jace turned his attention to the other vehicle which was another weapon truck with a rotary cannon in the back. Jace fired his shot through the biomechanical creature’s head on the back. It cut right through the camera that acted like an eye. It fell backwards while the driver in the front was one of those brain exposed biomechanical creatures. Its brains quickly covered the seat behind it as Jace shot it.
Jace moved toward the vehicle and jumped on the back. He kicked the body of the shooter. It landed on the asphalt while he stood behind the rotary cannon and began fringing at the other truck just as the other biomechanical soldiers began piling out. Just like at the outpost these ones consisted of the faster and more agile types. Some had those springy legs others just had the metal embedded in their skin.
The blue blood of these biomechanical creatures covered the ground as it melted through them like it was nothing. Then the truck transporting those biomechanical creatures blew up when he hit the fuel tank.
Jace moved to the front of the smaller truck he was in and tossed the brainless biomechanical creature out. He pulled his Dragon’s Breath off his back and tossed it in the passenger seat along with his assault rifle before jumping in the driver seat.
He revved the engines and then drove past the burning truck, heating the rear end since the roads were too narrow. The truck jostled as he rode past. The metal screeched as it came in contact with the metal of the burning truck.
Now that they had passed through, the other biomechanical creatures were hidden. He could not see any out in the open like before. They had probably holed up in the bunkers and other structures that were around.
Now that he had a moment he checked his heads up display and clicked his tongue in annoyance. The right leg of his suit was showing complete motor failure. It was the leg he used to kick the truck holding the other soldiers.
He had used too much force and had ended up breaking his armor suit...again. He would still be good for the rest of this mission since they had a breathable environment. But it was concerning that these suits were too fragile for Spectres to use.
