Space Odyssey: Spectre-Chapter 184: Alcatraz
Chapter 184: Alcatraz
"They are awake." Nina announced. Jace opened his eyes and looked at the targets they had restrained in the seats. She was right, they are awake. But the one that went by Eric Callus was faking being unconscious. While the other one was glaring at them.
Jace stood up from his seat and walked over to them. Tapping his watch communicator to pull up a swarm of information. "While you were asleep I managed to get some more complete files on you two." He then waved at the one that went by Eric Callus. "Eric Callus here, which is clearly a fake name, also goes by Shepard. Which is the codename of the spymaster of the Union, as far as we can tell you and your still unnamed counterpart each work in separate divisions. He finds allies within the government that you can use. While you find allies within the military. Unfortunately it appears you went through some program where your identity was removed so we are having to go through old records to find your real name."
Shepard, who was faking being unconscious, looked up at Jace who had removed his helmet and most of the other gear he had on his head except his earpiece and his Aviators. The other one was struggling against his restraints.
"Spectre Jace Steel, a career soldier whose only loyalty is to those who hold his leash." Jace raised an eyebrow as Shepard spoke while he could hear Nina giggle under her breath and the other restrained person stop struggling as he listened. "You and your Spectres have all evolved beyond human limits and are all monsters in their own right. You, being the best of them, are even abnormal among the Spectres. Mostly because you have lived your entire life killing and fighting to get what you want. Which begs the question: what does a monster like you want with the military?"
Jace smirked and stepped over to the other restrained person. "Marcus Trentwood." They both froze and looked at Jace who just shrugged, "since your father is a high ranking member of the Union we have kept a look out for you." Jace informed them, "after we get whatever information we can out of you we should start sending body parts of yours to your father. I am sure that would draw him out."
Jace then began walking back to his seat as Marcus began struggling at his restraints and Shepard took a moment to breath. Neither of them could do anything at the moment because there was a nanobot restraint on their arms. It prevented nanobots from doing anything. It also stopped Jace from communicating with Salem.
"We have arrived at the Alcatraz Prison Ship." The pilot calmly announced over the communication pieces.
Jace sighed and pulled out the earpiece. Putting it in one of his pockets. He looked over at Nina who did the same. They both moved to the rear ramp as Jace could feel a very slight jostling, undetectable by most people, as they entered the prison ship’s hangar.
The rear ramp began opening even before they landed but before the Puddle-Jumper there was an explosion and the Puddle-Jumper slammed into the floor of the hangar. They were able to keep themselves up and nothing on the inside appeared damaged but the pilot cursed in a dialect Jace could not speak.
Then the co pilot spoke back to them. "One of the stabilizers on the right wing just blew up. Seems like we put too much stress on it back on Vexical Prime with that maneuver you had us do."
Jace frowned and he saw Nina glare at him. Jace just shrugged as the rear ramp completely opened up to the sight of people in red and yellow running with fire fighting equipment to the right wing.
Originally he was going to have to find an excuse to leave one of the Puddle-Jumpers here for the long term. But this would work out. "Okay, power off the systems and everything else. A repair like that will need at least a few weeks. Especially since it sounded like the fuel line exploded as well." Jace told them. "We will ride back with the other ship while this one stays here to get repaired."
Then he looked up as he could hear several sets of footsteps. "You must be Spectre Jace." The person at the front of the group of guards in basic tactical armor spoke. They were wearing a combination of blue and black. A cross between the blue of a civil officer and the black of a classified or undesignated unit.
"Warden. Sorry but I did not get a name." Jace responded in turn and shook the man’s hand after he walked up the ramp.
The warden smiled back at him. "That is because it is classified. You can just call me warden. Most of the ship’s population does. The rest call me boss."
Jace shook his head and watched as the guards pulled the prisoners out of the seat restraints and put them in a different set of chains and restraints that connected all four of their limbs. Marcus managed to get out of the hold for a moment and elbowed a guard in the nose. While his nose started bleeding another guard pulled out a baton and smacked Marcus in the midsection. He keeled over and they were able to completely put the restraints on them.
"Did the other ship arrive yet?" Jace asked as he walked down the ramp with the Warden. Nina followed closely behind them.
"It should be landing now." The warden answered and he was right they could see the Puddle-Jumper hover into the hangar and then land. They walked towards it as the prisoners were brought to a central area where the guards waited with them. Another set of guards followed the Warden, Jace, and Nina to the other Puddle-Jumper. "I must say these new ship’s are rather impressive and will cut down on security risks. Especially since we used to have to dock with another ship to pick up and drop off our prisoners."
Jace smiled and shook his head. "We are leaving the one we arrived in but you will have to repair it." The warden made a humming noise in acknowledgment as the rear ramp of the other Puddle Jumper lowered.
Jace let out a breath of laughter that he quickly suppressed when he saw the other Spectres and Salem. On the other hand, Nina did not restrain herself from roaring with laughter while falling to her knees and holding her midsection as she laughed.
Spectre Dahlia has a bruise over one of her eyes and a cut lip. Spectre Anja has a broken nose that clearly was treated with first aid and was clearly relying on one leg more than the other. Spectre Karlson has a black eye and a cut on his brow. Spectre Dominic has one of his arms in a harness and was using a crutch.
Dahlia glared at Nina while Salem, who was looking worse than them, smiled innocently. She has a broken nose that had not yet been properly set, a bleeding lip, two black eyes, and one of her hands had clear damage that looked like she punched something that split it open because it was bleeding even after being treated.
"Hey Jace! Hey Nina! Admiring my work?" Salem asked as Dahlia and Karlson forced her down the ramp.
Jace looked at Dahlia and looked between Salem and them. Leaving the air open for her to answer the question he was holding off on openly asking.
"She escaped from her restraints seven times. Each time she would just attack us instead of trying to escape. It is also why we took so long to get here. The pilots had to stop flying to come help us a few times." Dahlia explained while the Warden was stunned.
The warden leaned over and whispered to Jace, "I thought you Spectres were supposed to be the best of the best?"
Jace had to restrain his smile which kept threatening to come out. He leaned back over and whispered to the warden as they moved to follow Salem who was handed over to the guards. "Salem Wintry trained with us, she also knows all our moves. So I would not underestimate her."
The warden whistled in admiration as they arrived at the spot where the other two were waiting. "Well if there is nothing else...?" He looked at Jace who shook his head. "Then I welcome my three new prisoners to the Alcatraz Prison Ship, where you will spend a long time." The warden welcomed them.
Salem raised a hand. Jace raised an eyebrow as he noticed she had escaped her restraints. "When can we leave?" Salem asked. Dahlia and Karlson who were the closest moved to react. But Salem used the chains of the restraint to hit Dahlia across the face. While she sidestepped Karlson. Then she dashed toward the warden.
But before she could get close to him, Jace stood in her path. Salem’s eyes widened as she saw him holding a hand like he was about to flick. The others noticed as well. The Spectres all covered their ears. "Shit!" She screamed.
BOOM!
A sonic boom occurred and Salem fell to the ground unconscious with a red welt on her head. The guards and the other two prisoners were dazed but the warden was able to cover his ears in time.
"What the hell was that?" The warden asked as he looked down at Salem.
"A fun trick I developed, I figured it would be fine to use it since there are no civilians around. But you should all get checked by a medical professional." Jace told him with a chuckle. The trick in question was flicking so fast he broke the sound barrier. But his finger never connected with Salem’s head, because that would have definitely injured her badly. Instead he flicked a bolt of electricity which short circuited her brain and knocked her unconscious without causing any damage.
"Well... okay then. We have them from here. You can go ahead and head out." The warden told them as a new group of guards came running in. "Get these three to the special military holding area. Get each of them a private prison cell."
Jace turned and walked to the other Puddle-Jumper as the others recovered. He looked down at his finger. For a moment it looked purple and bruised but that was quickly disappearing.
"A little warning would have been nice." Nina complained as she caught up with him.
Jace shrugged, "sorry."
