Chapter 92: Chapter 92—Change in Power

"Say whatever you have to say as soon as possible; I don’t have as much patience."

"Um...Umm... They seem to be doing something to kids," the man said.

Cole’s face immediately scrunched up; he knew they were doing something to the children, but from the man’s words, Cole realized it must be much worse than what he was thinking.

He felt extremely annoyed and was just about to ask for more information, but he soon realized that might not be the best response at that time.

"I need to calm down a little before I ask for more."

He knew if he pressed on now, he might not be able to stop himself.

"Before we go into any more details, who exactly are you?" Cole asked.

"I am just a random worker for the gang; I am not a threat. I am only doing this for the money to take care of my family."

"Are these all the members of the gang?" Cole asked.

"No no, those new guys killed off the boss and all powerful members of the gang the moment they arrived."

A look of realization finally appeared on Cole’s and the others’ faces. They now understood why there weren’t many spiriters.

"So they are all dead,"

"How about the other two outside?"

"Those two were the ones that quickly betrayed the gang and changed sides."

Betrayals were always common in gangs like this, so Cole wasn’t too shocked. He was only shocked by the fact that only two of them were actually betrayed.

Now Cole felt he was calm enough to proceed with the questioning on the most important points.

"What were they doing to the kid?" he asked in a dangerously calm tone.

Hearing the change in Cole’s voice, the man immediately went back to the ground and began begging again.

"Forgive me, please. I really don’t have anything to do with it."

Seeing the begging man, Cole felt even more irritated. He even began to feel the man was lying his way out of punishment.

"Don’t force me to actually do that," Cole said.

The man immediately tried to compose himself in fear.

"They usually took three kids every other day to a particular place not far away from here, and they are usually quickly replaced."

"The remaining kids that weren’t chosen were left alone, and we were usually ordered to take care of them."

Cole’s hand tightened harder the more he listened, but he still kept his emotions in check. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

The last experience with the codex was extremely scary for him, so he made sure to not do anything remorselessly.

Cole proceeded to look at his teammates behind him again, ready to hear their opinion on the current matter.

"What do you guys think?" he asked.

"I think we should go check out the building," Linda said.

Bryan looked at Cole’s face before chipping in his own thoughts.

"I don’t think you should go there," Bryan said resolutely.

Cole was about to refute when he looked at Linda; she was also nodding in approval of Bryan’s words.

"You are not in the right emotional state," she added.

Cole looked at the two of them helplessly but did not attempt to go against them.

"I think it is better you stay here and wait for us," Bryan said.

Linda didn’t wait for any instructions before approaching the Man.

"Get up and lead the way to the building," she said with disgust.

To her, the man was a gangster; she didn’t care what reasons he had; she felt what he was doing was wrong.

The man also didn’t attempt to resist; he gently stood to his feet and led the two of them away.

Cole watched the two of them leave with expectations in his eyes.

"I hope they come back quickly," he said.

Having said that, he didn’t wait anymore just to stand there; he moved away from his current location and began observing other parts of the empty space.

Except for the normal plates and all that were messily scattered all around, Cole found nothing more.

From those plates, he could observe that the people there were moved in extreme haste.

They probably didn’t even know what was going on.

"Poor kids, those bastards." Cole shouted with clenched teeth.

He still wondered how it was possible for Micheal to come in contact with those guys so fast and now be causing so much trouble.

"He must have always had it in him."

"But where did he find followers so quickly, and where did they transfer the kids?" Cole thought.

While aimlessly wandering all around, he left the large empty space for another part of the building.

It looked like a section that contained offices and stores.

One at a time, Cole opened the door to the rooms, but he didn’t find anything of note.

The rooms contained only beds and some daily stuff.

"This room must belong to Michael’s people; it is much better than the others," he said.

He looked through the other places but found nothing except for a store. contained food.

There was now just a single room Cole hadn’t checked.

"This one must be extra special," Cole said while observing the fancy lock on the entrance.

With as much force as he could muster, Cole smashed the door open and forced his way into the room.

Just like Cole thought, this room was much more different from the others.

The contents were all arranged in specific places, and it was even extremely decorated.

"This room must have belonged to the gang leader," Cole concluded.

"But it seems to have become Michael’s residence,"

When he thought of that, another thought suddenly emerged in his mind.

"Can I find any of his things, and Bryan would find him like he found me that night," Cole thought.

He grew slightly excited when he thought about the possibility, and he quickly began searching through the room.

It appeared Michael was extremely cautious since Cole couldn’t find anything important.

Just when he started feeling disappointed, he heard Bryan’s thoughts in his mind.

"You really need to see this." Cole’s heart immediately skipped a beat.
