SSS Demon King System: The Rise of a Dying Extra-Chapter 13: The Definitive Clue.
Baltazar Kaitos.
This boss appeared when the protagonists were already in their third year at the academy.
He served to develop Luke Kaitos, one of the co-protagonists.
Luke was presented at the beginning as a bully, though over time it would be discovered that the character was deeper.
He becomes an ally of the protagonist, Alexander Pendragon, who had a tendency to bring some of his antagonists to his side.
In that scenario, Luke confronts Baltazar Kaitos, his uncle, while carrying the pain of having lost his family, who while they always treated him badly, were still his family.
Luke doesn’t defeat him alone.
Alexander and his companions, along with the professors, took care of Baltazar’s army.
Luke himself faced Baltazar alongside Rose Rigel, combining their magic to form a more powerful one and thus defeat the boss.
However, Baltazar wasn’t the most powerful in his group.
Setting aside his large repertoire of undead, he also had help from the assassin guild of the dark society, and, more importantly, Alice, a hero.
Heroes appeared a long time ago; they were those who received a divine blessing.
Upon death, the blessing didn’t disappear, but waited to find a new bearer.
Each bearer developed a different version of the blessings, since they were different people.
However, Alice stood out for being the strongest hero in history.
That’s what the novel said: her blessing "Aperion" gave her the ability to increase her power without limits, and gave her authority over evolution as a concept.
In the end, Alice becomes an important ally for Alexander, though Alice’s "difficult" personality meant she didn’t always agree to help.
In summary, his father was a psychopath who massacred his family and sought to destroy the kingdom.
Knowing that, knowing that Baltazar ignored him was comforting, since meeting him would surely give headaches.
"Though, what if he did it because of his son’s death?" Lloyd whispered to himself.
It was a valid hypothesis.
Perhaps those behind his death were members of the Kaitos family itself, which drove Baltazar mad who decided to take revenge.
However, Lloyd decided to discard that idea.
The first point against it was that Baltazar himself showed no affection toward Lloyd.
Not only was he not present at his birth, but he didn’t appear at any point in his life.
It was normal for Sebastian to be upset with him.
Even if he was a busy noble, not visiting your son in his eight years of life was too cold. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
A scenario where Baltazar lamented the death of the son he never wanted to meet was quite unlikely.
Moreover, it made no sense for his family to want to assassinate him.
Setting aside how difficult it was to send people to Cocytus, being there was already similar to death.
It was even beneficial for him to remain alive, since if he died, the Kaitos would have to send another heir, unless another noble took charge of the territory.
If the latter happened, they would have to send a member of their family anyway to take care of another dangerous territory.
In other words, planning Lloyd’s death was self-sabotage.
"Or, I think it could be that."
An idea then occurred to the boy that was more plausible.
Perhaps Baltazar was someone who already had a difficult personality, so they sent him to Cocytus to get rid of him and fulfill his punishment.
If so, it would make sense that Baltazar, unhappy with his fate, would plan his revenge while acquiring his army of undead.
That would make all the pieces fit, but it also resulted in a serious problem: he was also in danger.
Perhaps Lloyd would be saved if he decided to stay obediently in Cocytus, but that wasn’t an idea Lloyd liked.
"I guess the only way would be to go to the academy."
The Imperial Academy, where all the events of Tales of Avalon take place at the beginning.
There, he would be safe at least from his father.
Lloyd didn’t dislike that plan, after all visiting the academy was something he wanted to do.
However, he still had a long way to go before he could even dream of entering.
"Let’s set that aside for now then, first, let’s solve this mystery," Lloyd finally said, opening Clarinda’s room door.
As soon as he took his first step, Lloyd felt a strong incense smell entering his nostrils.
He never disliked the smell of cinnamon, but that incense was so strong it almost suffocated him.
The young man left the door open to ventilate a bit, then closed it quietly.
He knew Clarinda was busy now, so he shouldn’t fear her arrival.
However, if another maid heard or found him, it would be difficult to explain his presence there.
Nothing would happen to him of course, but if he raised suspicions, Clarinda could get rid of any incriminating evidence, like the diary Lloyd came to find.
The young man took a look at the room; it was smaller than his, had walls upholstered in navy blue, matching the curtains, bed sheets and floor carpet.
Lloyd could see some furniture, but no possible hiding places.
"I guess I’ll do this the old-fashioned way."
Lloyd started searching: under the bed, on the shelves, and finally in the drawers.
Lloyd first went to open the drawer in the nightstand, though upon seeing it he became discouraged: it had a lock.
The boy sighed, already seeing himself searching for a key, but, when pulling the knob, just in case, he found it wasn’t locked.
"I see luck is finally smiling on me."
The boy didn’t have to search anymore; right there was a book with a black leather cover.
Upon taking it and opening it, the mission was completed, he had found it.
However, upon starting to read, Lloyd was disappointed. There wasn’t much information: some matters about what seemed like inventory, and he also found evidence of her encounters with the guard.
"Is this really a Demon King system? It seems like it wants me to gossip about someone else’s romance."
Lloyd complained, but he still had time to check more things.
The boy decided to look at more drawers, though he only found some clothes, until, searching thoroughly, something stood out.
"Mmm, what’s this?"
It was a pendant from which hung a green crystal. Lloyd didn’t hesitate for a second and used his Eye of Greed on it.
[Touki Enhancer]
{Quality: High}
"An artifact created meticulously to allow increasing the quality of the user’s Touki."
"Wait, this wasn’t my..."
Before he could finish the sentence, Lloyd was interrupted; apparently, Clarinda had decided to return to her room as soon as possible.
