Standing Next To You-Chapter 302: Liking into Love
Chapter 302: Liking into Love
Bei Sangyun was stunned.
"Think about it this way, Young Miss. What is it that you like about him? Is it worth the trouble, your time and effort, and the pain? If it is, then you are on the right path. But if it is something that you think you can’t handle, you can still back out. Because when you step in with both of your feet, there’s no way of backing out."
Maid Ye Zhai sincerely gave her advice.
This ’liking’ that the Young Miss spoke of was no longer mere puppy love. It had deepened into something more profound. If Bei Sangyun was willing to explore this route called ’love’, then she had to be prepared to face all such emotions—both good and bad.
Bei Sangyun stayed silent as she pondered Maid Ye Zhai’s words.
She had pursued Fei Chuan because she was moved by his actions in the past. That man was so devoted that she wondered why he had spent his entire life accompanying her grave.
They had been enemies who couldn’t coexist under the same sky when she was alive, so why was he so tormented in the years she was gone?
Bei Sangyun couldn’t understand. But seeing him not forget her after all these years strangely comforted her heart and soul.
She thought that if time were turned back and she met him again, she would treat him differently and make different decisions in life.
When Bei Sangyun saw him again, she felt that the heavens had given her another chance to change her life and their ending.
She didn’t want to see Fei Chuan grow old and weak in front of her grave, nor did she want them to become enemies again. Fei Chuan had accompanied her in that lonely grave, and she wished she could repay him by treating him well.
As she continued to stay by his side, she slowly learned more about him, finding him more pleasing in her eyes. She thought it wouldn’t be too bad to marry him and spend their lives together—breathing, alive, and well this time.
Not to mention, she could only find comfort with Fei Chuan around.
After spending time with him and getting to know him more, Bei Sangyun’s views changed a lot. She wanted to be better for Fei Chuan, to give him all the good things and spend happy days with him.
She felt angry when people harmed Fei Chuan or when he faced injustice. She wanted to protect him and wished he could rely on her more. As time passed, her feelings for him grew deeper and deeper, sometimes losing control of her own emotions.
She found herself at times patient, hasty, calm, and angry—feeling all these overwhelming emotions at once that Bei Sangyun struggled to describe her feelings at the moment.
Maid Ye Zhai noticed that Bei Sangyun was contemplating deeply. The Young Miss was indeed taking this matter seriously to heart. It showed how important this was to her. The answer was already clear in Maid Ye Zhai’s eyes.
She approached her and gently held her hand, "Young Miss, love is both hot and cold. It is passionate and calm. It can be both happy and sad, and at times painful and agonizing. But it’s beautiful."
Bei Sangyun looked at Maid Ye Zhai with newfound admiration. She couldn’t help but smile. "I didn’t know Maid Ye Zhai was so knowledgeable in this aspect."
"As I mentioned before, I don’t have much personal experience. But I’ve witnessed people falling in love, getting hurt, growing stronger, and still loving and trusting in others. Although I may not have experienced the kind of love you’re feeling now, I’ve experienced love in other ways."
Bei Sangyun smiled and nodded. She was slowly understanding what her grandmother meant back then.
"You’re right. This is just part of the process. I shouldn’t let myself be upset or give in to impatience. I’ll try harder."
After their heart-to-heart talk, Bei Sangyun felt much better. She was glad that her relationship with Maid Ye Zhai had changed for the better, allowing them to have conversations like this.
This also cleared up the confusion in her heart and mind.

The school break ended, and the exam results were finally out.
While the majority of students dreaded returning to school to discover their ranks, the students of Class 3-1 A and Class 3-1B were an exception.
This time, the rankings could potentially alter the composition of both star sections. The rankings would determine if the students in Class 3-1A had the ability to protect their seats or allow students from Class 3-1B to steal their spots.
As for the students of other sections, entering the star sections was like crossing into heaven.
The star sections had differences as vast as that of sky and earth.
The two star sections housed the top 50 students in the entire school. Students in the star sections not only had to maintain high grades but also needed strong social backing.
Typically, the top 20 rankings remained unchanged, as these students had solid foundations that ordinary students couldn’t match.
Class 3-1A and Class 3-1B were the most competitive sections in the entire school. Despite being both star sections, there was a significant difference between them. The top 20 students of the senior level were typically in Class 3-1A, consisting of the smartest, most well-connected, and resourceful individuals.
The remaining spots were up for grabs by both scattered students from Class 3-1A and students from Class 3-1B. The competition for these spots was fierce, as students from Class 3-1B aimed to surpass those in the top 21-25 to secure a place in Class 3-1A.
Zhong Cheng knew he didn’t have a shot at the top 20. However, he hoped to maintain his position within the top 25, as he did last year, to stay in Class 3-1A. Fortunately, he had reviewed all the lessons with the tutor his parents had hired, which were covered in the exam, allowing him to secure the last spot in Class 3-1A last year. But this time, he wasn’t so sure.
Nevertheless, he had studied alongside his Boss, the top-ranked student, and the hidden genius Fei Chuan. Surely, that counted for something, right?
