The human imagination was a marvel.

Plant a single seed of misinformation, hint that it's an undeniable truth, and people will go to great lengths to justify it—no matter how illogical—convincing themselves it makes perfect sense.

Take Li Yueqiu and Zheng Ren, for example. Their skills fell far short of the recruitment standards for the illustrious Dawnmoon Guild.

Yet Zhang Zhuang couldn't shake the suspicion that they possessed some hidden talents, something extraordinary that compelled the guild to make an exception.

The woman who had stolen his first kill? She had to have some unique skill.

The man with the metal ruler? Clearly a powerhouse.

But Zheng Ren… what was his deal? Was he an unshakable optimist, immune to mental fatigue? A cockroach-like survivor, impossible to kill? Or did he have connections high up in the guild hierarchy?

Zhang Zhuang couldn't put his finger on it. He'd have to keep a close eye on them, observe their actions, and piece together the puzzle later.

One thing was certain, though.

In these tense times, with the two major guilds locked in bitter rivalry, any chance to take out a few opposing members was an opportunity worth seizing.

The relationship between Tidal Surge and Dawnmoon was... complicated.

One moment, they were thick as thieves, teaming up to tackle dungeons.

The next, they were at each other's throats, ready to tear one another apart.

The shift between peace and all-out war was as fluid as it was unpredictable.

Not long ago, both guilds had rallied their core forces to conquer the Level 3 No Escape dungeon.

At first, the atmosphere had been cordial, everyone spouting platitudes about cooperation and mutual benefit.

By the time they returned, the facade had crumbled.

Dawnmoon accused Tidal Surge of dragging their feet, disobeying orders, and deliberately drawing danger toward them.

Tidal Surge countered, claiming Dawnmoon had set them up, pushing them into perilous tasks that led to heavy casualties.

And just like that, the fragile truce shattered, replaced by the familiar scent of conflict.

As for the third major guild in Safe Zone 7—would they benefit from the infighting?

Not a chance.

Kilohunt was a collective of socially awkward loners.

If not for the occasional dungeon hall announcement proclaiming yet another first clear by their members, their existence might have been forgotten entirely.

They had no interest in dominating Safe Zone 7, and no ambition to rise above their current station.

Thus, when Tidal Surge and Dawnmoon clashed, neither side worried about third-party interference.

The old adage "When the snipe and the clam fight, the fisherman benefits" simply didn't apply here.

The idea of Kilohunt uniting the safe zone was laughable.

These were people who broke into a cold sweat at the thought of talking to strangers.

Forcing them into politics and diplomacy would be like asking a fish to climb a tree—utterly impossible.

Even with a knife to their throats, they'd sooner die than step into the spotlight.

Truth be told, if lone wolves weren't such easy targets for bullies, Kilohunt might not even exist.

Rumor had it most guild members had never even met in person.

Their so-called headquarters was little more than a facade, manned by a skeleton crew with no actual players in sight.

The real heart of Kilohunt was an online group where members, though strangers in real life, were well acquainted in the digital realm.

It wasn't uncommon for two skilled players to cross paths in a dungeon, recognize each other's moves or gear, and suddenly realize—"Oh, you're that person from the chat!"—turning from adversaries to allies in an instant.

Of course, in true Kilohunt fashion, such exchanges happened from three meters apart, via chat windows.

Not long after the first probing attack by the mountain monkeys, Zuo Chengan spotted another cluster of health bars hidden among the bushes on the cliffside.

The creatures stirred, creeping closer to the moving vehicle.

Yet Li Yueqiu remained calm.

Ten minutes had passed. Her skills had cooled down.

With a weapon now in hand, she was confident she could protect herself—even without Mo Dou's help—should the mountain monkeys get too close.

She had initially planned to return the Flying Pebble after acquiring a new item, but Zuo Chengan insisted she keep it, praising her keen awareness and perception. He claimed she was an excellent support.

He had also examined the willow branch she had picked up.

Unlike items obtained from quests or dangerous locations, monster loot was entirely random.

This particular branch, a green-grade item from the Level 4 Miasma Forest dungeon, had abilities beyond simply whipping enemies—it could locate objects as well.

Using it was simple. She just had to visualize the item's shape and name in her mind, and the branch would guide her to it.

The only catch? It couldn't locate items of a higher grade than itself, and each use required a lengthy cooldown.

Still, it was a handy tool.

The mountain monkeys were impatient creatures.

Once regrouped, they wasted no time launching another assault.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The sound of their bodies slamming against the roof was relentless, like a hailstorm.

Even before the first monkey poked its head out, it was clear—this attack was on a whole new scale.

In a flash, one monkey stretched its neck over the roof, cautiously peering inside.

Yang Ye, wielding his oversized syringe, drove it straight through the creature's throat, puncturing its air sac.

The lifeless body slid off the roof.

The real battle had begun.

Dozens of monkeys descended, grotesque forms swarming from all sides except the driver's window.

They had learned from their earlier mistakes.

Instead of exposing their vulnerable necks, they dangled their bodies into the vehicle, drawing fire while keeping their air sacs safe.

As long as those remained intact, they could survive—even if bisected, disemboweled, or worse.

Only when the players were distracted would they finally lower their heads, their long necks giving them the advantage of reach.

Staying inside would only slow them down.

Zuo Chengan moved fast.

With a swift thrust of his ruler, he pierced a monkey's soft abdomen and yanked it out, sending it tumbling down the cliff.

After ensuring the cloth strips tied around his body were secure, he climbed through the gap and scrambled onto the roof.

The monkeys, their bodies still dangling into the vehicle, were momentarily stunned.

Before they could react, Zuo Chengan was already upon them.

His weapon, Little Seven, claimed its first kill since joining him.

[Killed Mountain Monkey x1]

The scent of the ruptured air sac wafted out, even stronger this time.

Cautious of the unknown aroma, Zuo Chengan instinctively held his breath.

Then he paused, a thought striking him.

Instead of retreating, he exaggeratedly inhaled the scent, his movements so theatrical even the most oblivious spectator would notice.

Sure enough, the live chat reaction was exactly what he had hoped for.

[Look at this guy! Sniffing that scent like a fool! I bet he's gonna get "planted" in no time.]

[Nah, too soon for that. But if he keeps this up, he won't need the third-day bell to trigger it.]

[Honestly, I've never seen what happens when they fully bloom. The most I've seen is the budding stage.]

[Same here. Let's hope one of these players lasts until the ninth day so we can finally see it.]

[Yeah, it'd be a real treat to witness the full process for once.]
