Lingyu’s eyes widened. “Didn’t the books say that the Golden Crows are auspicious beasts?”

Old Man Turtle explained, “The Golden Crow had never been an auspicious beast. In ancient times, ten great Golden Crows had played in the sky and caused a terrible drought that ravaged the world. The rivers dried, the mountains burned, and countless living beings crumbled into ash. Pray tell, how is it auspicious?”

Feng Qingyou asked, “Are there many Golden Crows residing in the Land of Endless Day?”

“Not many, but not few either.” Old Man Turtle said, “The best thing to do if we run into the Golden Crow is to hide. If hiding is impossible, then we must kill it cleanly. It would be very troublesome if the rest of the Golden Crows found out.”

Ye Qing and Feng Qingyou nodded. Lingyu asked another question, “So, what about the Divine Sun General?”

“The Divine Sun General supervises the rise and fall of the sun. He does not have a mind and can only act on instinct. When the sun rises, he will sound the morning gong. When the sun sets, he will sound the evening gong.”

Old Man Turtle’s expression turned serious. “The Divine Sun General only appears when the sun is rising or setting. When it is time, the temperature of the entire Land of Endless Day would rise to a horrifying degree. When this happens, even a Sage may burn into a crisp if they were standing too close to the Divine Sun General.”

“Heavens!” Lingyu subconsciously cried. “What... What should we do then?”

“There are two ways.”

Old Man Turtle replied, “One, we cross the Land of Endless Day before the sun rises or falls. Two, we stay as far away from the Soup Valley—the center of the Land of Endless Day—as far away as possible when the Divine Sun General appears. It’s because that is where the sun will be staying for around two hours, and where the temperature will be the hottest.”

“When two hours have passed, the sun will rise back out of the Soup Valley. As long as we survive this period, then the temperature would slowly drop back to a relatively reasonable degree.”

Old Man Turtle was explaining this mostly for the sake of Lingyu. After all, Ye Qing and Feng Qingyou had already performed a detailed research into the Land of Endless Day prior to their departure. They knew basically everything Old Man Turtle was saying even though they might be a little blurry on some of the details.

“So, you’re saying that we only have twenty hours or so to pass through the Land of Endless Day safely before we are burned into a crisp by the sun?” 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

Lingyu counted on her little fingers until a look of puzzlement overcame her. “However, the book states that the Land of Endless Day is very huge. Can we really cross it in just twenty hours?”

“Not at all.” Old Man Turtle replied, “The land of Endless Day is very huge. Unless you are extremely familiar with the lay of the land, forget twenty hours, half a month may not be enough to leave the place.”

“H-half a month?!”

Lingyu’s eyes widened into saucers. “Doesn’t that mean we’re going to burn into a crisp?”

“Relax. It won’t take that long. Don’t forget that the elder traveled to Dong Ji before. He must be very familiar with the Land of Endless Day. With him acting as our guide, I’m sure we’ll be able to cross the Land of Endless Day in the shortest time possible,” Ye Qing interrupted.

“Oh right! We won’t need to burn to death then!” Lingyu’s eyes lit up.

“It’s not that simple.”

Old Man Turtle sighed. “If the Golden Crows and the Soup Valley did not exist, then it may be possible to cross the Land of Endless Day in twenty hours.”

“But since we are avoiding both, this trip will take much longer. It will take us at least three to five days.”

Lingyu widened her round, black eyes once more while exclaiming in disappointment, “Then why did you say there are two methods to cross the Land of Endless Day? Just say there is one!”

Old Man Turtle shrugged. “You’re the one who asked, so I’m explaining both methods one by one. Besides, just because you can’t do it doesn’t mean we can’t!”

Lingyu: “...” So, you’re saying it’s my fault for asking?

Ye Qing asked curiously, “How long did it take you to cross the Land of Endless Day back then, elder?”

Old Man Turtle answered, “I was there for a little over a month, I guess.”

“A little over a month?”

Lingyu interrupted with a hint of curiosity, “Did you not burn into ash, Grandpa Turtle?”

Old Man Turtle: “...” Why do you sound disappointed?

Before Old Man Turtle could speak up, the girl clapped her hands together and mumbled to herself, “Well, if Grandpa Turtle can stay in the Land of Endless Day for over a month, then it can’t be too dangerous!”

Old Man Turtle was speechless for a moment when he heard this. Are you misunderstanding me, or are you just insane?

Old Man Turtle felt the need to educate this foolish and arrogant girl then. She needed to understand just how dangerous this world was.

“Do not take my warning lightly, lass. My experience back then could only be described as harrowing. Both the Golden Crows and the horrific temperature nearly claimed my life. If I wasn’t a blessed and fortunate soul, I may not be standing in front of you today.”

Lingyu blinked and declared confidently, “It must be because you were too weak, Grandpa Turtle!”

Old Man Turtle nearly bowled over in a fit of rage. “Weak? I was already a Sage then, lass. I was many times stronger than you! If I, a Sage, almost died, then you probably would have perished in less than two hours!”

Lingyu looked disbelieving and suspicious. “Is it really that scary? You’re not trying to scare me, are you?”

“Scare you?” Old Man Turtle scoffed. “Forget the temperature that could easily melt metal like nothing, every single Golden Crow living in the Land of Endless Day is an Ancient-class Stranger. A beanpole like you wouldn’t even fill the gap between their teeth!”

“What? The Golden Crows are that strong?” Finally, a bit of fear and trepidation appeared on the girl’s face.

“What reason do I have to trick a little girl like you?” Old Man Turtle sighed. “Back then, I was chased by three Golden Crows, and it felt like being chased by three suns. I was this close from burning into a pile of ash.”

Lingyu turned pale and gulped audibly. “If it’s that dangerous, then maybe we don’t need to go to Dong Ji...”

“What’s wrong? Scared?” Ye Qing smiled at Lingyu. “You can head back first if you’re scared.”

“I... I...” Lingyu looked tempted, but when she saw the smirk on Ye Qing’s face, her stubbornness and defiance immediately reared their ugly heads. “Hmph! Who are you calling scared? If you’re not scared, then why would I be?”

“Don’t toy with your own life, girl. You can still turn back. It would be too late by the time we’ve entered the Land of Endless Day,” Ye Qing chided her while patting her head. He did not mean to taunt her. Besides, their trip to Dong Ji would be easier without a burden to drag them down, frankly speaking.

But of course, it all depended on the girl’s voice.

A moment of hesitation later, Lingyu declared her defiance and grabbed Feng Qingyou’s arm. “Even if it’s dangerous, big sis Feng and big bro Ye will protect me, right?”

Ye Qing shook his head but did not try to change Lingyu’s mind. “Okay then. As long as you don’t regret your decision.”

A moment later, Lingyu said excitedly as if she had forgotten her fear, “So, why aren’t we moving? What are we waiting for?”
