Strongest Demigod System-Chapter 51: Second Place Strategy
Jane wasn't surprised by the fact that she was in first place.
She already knew that she was going to be the first since she was working much harder than everyone else.
Instead, Jane was surprised that she wasn't further ahead in the ranking than this! Jane thought for sure that she was going to be so far ahead that the other students wouldn't be able to see her back at all!
But that wasn't the case!
Azrael was only nine points away from her.
That was barely a single training session!
That meant that if Azrael had gone to the gym just one more time before this class, then he would've surpassed her in the ranking!
Jane was shocked by how close the two of them were.
Someone who didn't have a God Aspect and never visited the God Aspect training room like her was able to rise this quickly in the rankings and come up to second?
What in the world was Azrael doing in that gym?
With scores like these, Jane wouldn't be surprised if Azrael already put a bed and pillow in there and was sleeping inside the gym!
Jane felt frustration filling her heart once she realized how close Azrael was to surpass her in the ranking, and she couldn't help but glance at Azrael in slight shock.
Jane had a lot of responsibilities as one of the strongest children of Zeus. She was someone who was always told that she had to be the best, and she knew that she couldn't let down the people who had put their hopes on her.
Jane had to be the best.
She had to be first!
Scar waited for them all to get a good look at the points on the screen before he spoke up again while walking in front of the students.
"Alright then, now that you're all caught up on where you are, I'll introduce you to the last training exercise of the day. The points from your hard work earlier in the day have already been added to the table, but there was a tie in the score between the top four students, and I don't really feel like leaving things as they are now. We are going to be carrying out a series of physical assessments over the next hour, and you are all expected to do your best because this will also be added to your academic points."
Most of the students groaned when they heard they were going to be doing physical exercises again. They were all sore from the intense training they just went through, and they thought that they were just going to do some stretches before they were allowed to go home.
Scar scoffed. These students didn't know what they were here for. If they were tired from only this much, then they weren't going to last in their second year!
"Quiet down. This is the final test for today, and although I don't do it often, I'm to give you this little bit of extra information. The student who comes out with the highest overall score in athletics will be getting a total of ten points, and at the end of the test, there's a little reward waiting for that student."
Murmurs once more broke out amongst the students.

It was obvious to everyone what Scar was doing here.
They all turned to look at Jane and Azrael, and they could almost taste the competitive energy flowing off both of them.
Jane and Azrael were only separated by nine points.
That meant that whoever got the highest score here could determine who would remain in the first place. If Jane managed to get first place, then she would take an even bigger lead against Azrael, but if Azrael managed to get first place, then that would make him the first place in the ranking!
Scar couldn't keep a nasty grin off his face when he saw the students getting hyped up for the upcoming contest.
They had been lazy just a few minutes ago, but once they knew that there would be something interesting to see at the end of it all, they were immediately excited.
Children were so simple.
Scar walked over to the table at the side and grabbed a tablet before speaking.
"Okay, everyone. You're going to go according to your class numbers. First, Abigail Grey. Let's go!"
…
The next few minutes were filled with breaths of exhaustion and cries of tiredness from all the kids as they did their best to try and keep up with the insane athletic tests.
The students were first put through simpler tests like jumping jacks and side steps that wouldn't take them too much effort. They were then tested on punch strength, grip strength, and leg strength.
Then, they were all put on the track and field course to test their long jump, shot put, and vertical jumps.
The students were all demigods, so their scores in each of these exercises were far higher than what even Olympic medalists could do on their best day.
The tests were a mix of various strengths and weaknesses that the students had, and as time passed, the obvious difference between the students began to show itself.
At first, all the students were performing at almost the same level since they were all strong enough to pass the beginning tests, but then the fatigue that they were feeling from the earlier tests began to take its toll on them.
The vertical jump, track and field, as well as leg tests, put the most strain on the students, and some of them weren't even able to finish them.
But the top five students in the class were going at it like their lives depended on it. Gerald had a look of pure anger on his face as he struggled through all of the tests. He was already frustrated from not being able to finish the earlier test properly, so he was determined to do his best on this one, even if it killed him.
Right beside him was Tiana, Francis' former girlfriend, who was also doing her best to keep up. She was blessed by Freya, so she didn't have the best athletic build among the students, but she was pushing through by sheer will alone to make sure she finished.
The top three students, meanwhile, didn't look like they were struggling at all.
Henry looked like he was in his element as he breezed through many of the tests without even having to try. Out of all the students in the class, Henry was the most physically gifted, so tests like grip strength and shot put ended up giving him a lead against the other students.
But by the time they got to the race track, Jane Ashton started to catch up quickly to Henry. Jane was the fastest in the class without a doubt, and with her insane stamina, she quickly started to close the gap that Henry had made at the start of the test by taking the best score in those tests.
But the person who really surprised everyone was Azrael.
Azrael had not won a single one of the tests.
All the tests were designed to showcase one or two of the student's abilities to make it impossible for one student to win everything. That was why there was so much competition. But Azrael had still not gotten first place in any single one of the contests.
Instead, he was managing to come in second every single time.
It was a feat that surprised even Scar.
Many people wouldn't understand just how impressive it was to possess an aptitude like this, but Azrael's score meant that he was not lacking in any of the tests.
He had enough strength, stamina, and speed to be regarded as one of the best, no matter what he was doing!
Jane Ashton and Henry were alternating between first place and third place a lot, with Gerald and Tiana also trying their best to take the first or third place position from them.
But no matter how hard they tried, Azrael was always coming in second every single time!
After a while, Scar began to wonder if Azrael was doing this on purpose. There was no way someone would be able to get such a consistent score on all of these tests unless he was intentionally holding back.
But was that also a good strategy in itself?
Scar hummed as he thought this while looking at the scores.
By holding back on some of the tests while going harder on others, Azrael was practically saving himself a lot of trouble.
Azrael was making sure that he had more than enough energy to go all out on the tests that were going to be difficult for him, while putting less energy into the tests that he knew wouldn't stress him out too much. This way, he was able to still take the second position, even in the tests that he should've lost.
Scar laughed a little at this realization, and he turned back to look at Azrael with a little more respect than before. It was not every day that you saw a child capable of thinking at such a level.
