Strongest Demigod System-Chapter 58: The Black Mask
Dingdong~!
The sound of a bell ringing alerted Romanov to someone at her door. She walked to the door and looked through the peephole to see a young man wearing a white overall. In front of the man was a trolley, and he was currently bent over and checking something in the trolley, so she couldn't see his face properly.
Romanov realized that he was here for the room service, and she clicked the door open.
"Come in. I have to be somewhere soon, so you can lock the room when you're finished cleaning."
Romanov spoke as she started to walk back into the room. The room was massive. There was a large queen-sized bed against the wall opposite the door. The sheets were scattered, so it was obvious that Romanov had been using it until recently.
Romanov herself was wearing a bathrobe. She walked up to the vanity mirror, sat down, and started to put on her earrings as Azrael rolled the trolley into the room.
Romanov looked at her reflection in the mirror after she finished putting on the earrings and then stood up and walked over to the wardrobe on the other side of the room while taking off her bathrobe. She was wearing a beautiful red gown underneath the robe, and she hung the robe in the wardrobe before she turned around.
SQUELCH!
"Ugh!"
A sharp pain tore through Romanov's stomach, and a hand grabbed her by the shoulder and pressed her back against the wardrobe before digging a sword deeper and twisting sharply!
Romanov was in too much shock to say a single word as she stared at the masked man in front of her. Blood leaked out from the side of her mouth, and Romanov grabbed Azrael by the shirt.
"W-Why…?"
Azrael did not dare to look away from Romanov's eyes, and he watched the light fade out of it before he pulled the sword out from her body. Azrael was taking deep breaths, and for some reason, his heart was racing more than he thought it would.
Was he having an anxiety attack?
Why would he have this now?
It wasn't like this was the first time he killed someone.
Azrael leaned forward and tightened his hold on his sword. His heart was beating loudly in his ears, and that was why he didn't hear the person behind him before it was too late.
"Roman!"
A voice shouted loudly before the sound of gunshots echoed through the room!
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Three bullets slammed into Azrael's back, and Azrael felt his body shake before he fell back! There was another man in the room.
Romanov's fiancé had been in the bathroom taking his bath when Azrael came in. The man immediately ran forward while making sure that Azrael was no longer moving before he fell to his knees beside Romanov.
"Roman! Roman! Oh no! No! Stay with me, please!"

The man grabbed his phone and quickly started to make a call to 911 for help. The authorities picked up quickly, and the man told them that his fiancée had been stabbed.
[Okay, sir, I need you to calm down. We're sending an ambulance to you now. Can you identify the attacker?]
The man turned to look at Azrael and saw the face mask.
"I-I don't know, he has a black mask on his face! I shot him once I saw what was happening! Just get here quickly!"
[Of course, sir. The ambulance is on its way to you right now. Please just calm down. Try to stop the bleeding as much as possible if you can. If the knife is still in her body, then don't remove it under any circumstances.]
The man looked around and started to gather any towels that he could find to try and stop the bleeding. He grabbed as much as he could and held it over the wound in Romanov's stomach, but it wasn't working, and he became frantic as he tried to think of something.
Suddenly, his eyes lit up as he remembered something important, and he reached for the cupboard at the side and pulled out a pendant with an intricate design.
It had a green stone in the middle of various silver strips that were intertwined in a twisted pattern. The pendant was attached to a silver chain, and the man wore the chain around Roman's neck desperately. He waited for a moment, hoping that something would happen.
But he closed his eyes mournfully after a few seconds with nothing happening. Roman was already dead, and the artifact was not going to do anything for her.
The man turned to Azrael's prone body, and his eyes fixed on the black mask. Who sent this assassin?
Was it Helga?
No, they paid their dues. Why would Helga try to have them killed?
The man had the sudden urge to see the face of the man who killed his fiancée, and he reached forward to take off Azrael's mask.
That was when Azrael moved.
Azrael reached out, grabbed the man's shoulder with one arm, and then stretched his other arm out towards Oathkeeper!
The Oathkeeper blade shook on the floor before flying towards Azrael!
Azrael caught the hilt of the blade and in one fluid motion, he stabbed the blade deep into the man's neck!
SQUELCH!
The man's eyes went wide in shock at the sudden and brutal death. He choked on his blood before he fell forward and landed on Azrael in a heap.
Azrael pushed the man off and stumbled to his feet as he felt immense pain in his back. Azrael had been far too close to death at that moment. Azrael glanced to his system to read the notification that appeared once he was shot.
[Immortality of Death] has been activated
The only reason why Azrael managed to survive was because of this effect granted by the Oathkeeper.
But even though he was not going to die, that didn't mean that he wasn't feeling intense pain from the gunshot. The wounds in his back were going to take a long time to heal, and Azrael didn't have time to waste, so he immediately started to limp out of the room.
A flash of something silver caught Azrael's eyes, and Azrael turned to Romanov's corpse to see the silver pendant around her neck. Azrael hadn't seen what her fiancé was trying to do with it, but if he was using it, then didn't that mean it was some sort of healing artifact?
Azrael stumbled towards Romanov and grabbed the pendant from around her neck.
[You have discovered a Moonlight Artefact [Shard of Aridite - F]]
…
Shard of Aridite: A timeless artifact crafted by a widowed Demigod named Aridite in the dark war three thousand years ago. She created the artifact in order to try and heal her wounded husband, but her creation process took too long, ending in his death. The Artifact possesses a significant amount of healing Essence, which can be used to reverse any injury. But due to the suffering experienced by the creator of the Shard during its creation, the user will suffer a temporary loss in Mortal Stats while the Shard is equipped.
Effects of [Shard of Aridite]
- All wounds will heal at a rate of 1% every two seconds.
- All mortal stats will experience a 50% debuff while the shard is equipped.
…
Azrael almost cursed.
The shard was extremely useful. With a heal rate of 1% every two seconds, it would only take two hundred seconds for him to heal his bullet wounds, but Azrael couldn't afford to have his mortal stats reduced right now.
He could barely walk as it was.
If he reduced his strength and durability any more than this, then he was going to fall.
