Strongest Scammer: Scamming The World, One Death At A Time-Chapter 121: A Day Of Rest And Choices
Chapter 121: A Day Of Rest And Choices
Han Yu, through sheer survival instinct, ate the gruel.
And then, slowly, he felt it.
A warm, potent current surged through his veins.Stronger, denser, heavier than anything he had ever felt before.
He sat up—barely—and checked his core with trembling focus. His body vibrated faintly, the way a storm cloud hums with lightning before a strike. The vital energy in his body had multiplied several-fold.
His bones were tougher. His muscles, denser. His skin, almost faintly radiant.
"Wait, denser bones?" Han Yu was surprised before realizing what had just happened.
He had broken through.
Not just a little.
He was now at the Tenth Stage of the Body Tempering Realm!
The tenth stage of the Body Tempering Realm involved the tempering of bones and marrow. While he couldn’t exactly feel his marrow, he could certainly tell his bones were a lot tougher.
They felt heavier, and Han Yu could tell the difference when he moved his hands. But his breakthrough was not enough excitement to drown out the terror from earlier.
Han Yu stared at Li Mei with wide, horrified eyes.
"You... you almost killed me," he rasped.
Li Mei beamed.
"And yet you lived! A marvelous result!"
She whipped out a thick notebook labeled "Han Yu Resilience Trials" and started scribbling furiously.
Han Yu sagged back into the bed, grumbling. He wanted to punch her.He wanted to cry.
He also wanted to maybe bow down and thank her, because this kind of advancement would normally take months—years!—for someone like him.
Instead, he settled for a raspy whisper, "Next time... warn me about the internal bleeding..."
Li Mei winked.
"No promises."
A day passed as Han Yu recovered from surviving the pill.
He was certainly stronger, but also far more wary of the pills.
’No telling what kind of pill she might make next. While it did make me stronger, what if the next one kills me? This one almost did!’ Han Yu thought deeply.
The fear was still coursing through him, and he didn’t know how long his luck would last.
HUUU
Letting out a long breath, Han Yu tried to calm himself.
"Now that I’m at the Tenth Stage of the Body Tempering Realm, should I try to reach the Qi Refining Realm?" he wondered aloud.
After all, the minimum requirement to reach Qi Refining was simply to be at the Eighth Stage of the Body Tempering Realm, which he had long since reached—and even exceeded.
As much as he was tempted to make the breakthrough immediately, he also hesitated. He thought it over again.
’Didn’t they say that if you reach the peak of the Body Tempering Realm, your foundation will be stable, and you will be stronger than the average Qi Refining Realm cultivator when you break through?’ Han Yu recalled.
It was a qualitative difference, and most of the children who came from cultivation clans and sects tried to reach the tenth—or even the twelfth—stage of Body Tempering before attempting the breakthrough to the Qi Refining Realm.
The difference was enough that someone who followed this path could fight against a cultivator at the Mid Stage of the Qi Refining Realm with relative ease—and even contend against someone at the Late Stage to some extent.
Even if they might not be able to defeat such opponents, they would at least be able to last a while and potentially escape.
Not to mention, with their bodies being much more durable, they could handle more Qi and possess greater stamina than their peers.
Having thought of this, Han Yu made up his mind.
"I’ll do it!" Han Yu said with determination. "If I am to match up against those with Indigo-ranked talents, I need to at least do this much."
Becoming another mediocre cultivator was never in Han Yu’s mind. If he broke through now, he would be one among the thousands of average disciples of the Twin Peak Left Sect.
With that decision made, Han Yu got up from the bed and went out to do some chores.
He had taken a day off from risky pill testing to ’enjoy’ his time doing mundane servant chores instead. freeweɓnovel.cøm
Li Mei didn’t mind and even graciously gave him a couple of days off to recover his sanity.
Plus, Han Yu was sure she was already cooking up something new for him when he returned. He shivered at the thought and tried to focus on the task at hand: drawing water from the river to fill the barrels.
Tempering his mind through hard labor.
’Though... it doesn’t feel as hard as it did before,’ Han Yu realized.
He was barely out of breath, and his arms didn’t ache either.
"These do feel light... the breakthrough certainly made a major difference," Han Yu thought to himself.
He sped up and quickly finished his rounds, filling up all ten barrels before completing his quota for the day.And he had done it in half the time, to boot!
With a lot of time to spare and no more chores left, Han Yu decided to take a walk through the sect.Of course, he still carried his trusty broom with him.
It served both to defend himself in case anything happened, and also as an excuse to wander around without being questioned about what he was doing—or worse, being called over by a random disciple to do their errands.
Han Yu couldn’t go up the peaks, so he wandered around the areas that were unrestricted to servants.
He went to the market and did some window shopping, even buying a few snacks for himself, such as grilled skewers, tea eggs, and a stick of tanghulu.
Finding a quiet spot under a tree, he sat down to enjoy his snacks in peace.
For a rare moment, everything felt calm.
But a minute after he had settled down, he heard a stray conversation.
It was happening a few meters from him and was spoken in low voices, but he was able to hear it clearly due to the improvement in his hearing after the breakthrough.
Han Yu tilted his head slightly, pretending to nibble on his tanghulu while his ears sharpened their focus.
What he heard next would make his stomach clench tighter than before.
