The Goddess of Fortune has seen it—with every attempt Richard makes to defeat Ethan, he loses a hundred out of a hundred times. After all, while Richard was supported by only the Death God, on Ethan's side, there were five Goddesses.

After accepting the Oath, even if Ethan gets tired and exhausts himself, he would be forced by the will of the Goddesses to continue the battle.

With the addition of limitless magic and the weapon that could cut down a demi-god in one slash, there was no chance for Richard to stand against Ethan. Their Emissary.

It was a hopeless battle that would consume the darkness, and the Light would win.

Once that happens, there would be no death and no threat of losing control over their domain. There would be none who would dare challenge the deities.

'Everything is settled now...' The Goddess of Fortune smiled in glee as she waited for the expected result.

"Richard." Zulcriz turned towards his successor but before he could say anything, the redhead voiced,

"I am ready for this challenge." There was no hesitation, no fear in his voice as if he had already envisioned this situation.

Zulcriz's hold around his reaper stiffened as he turned towards the eldest deity and said, "I will take the challenge...but don't go back on your words."

Veris smilingly assented, "I made the promise, and you know going back on my words would cause me immensely."

Zulcriz was aware, that's why he didn't repeat his words and glanced at his successor.

Richard seemed prepared, even though he had fought a long day's battle restlessly and had nearly exhausted the Aembr he had. Now all he had was his body and the Aembr provided by the Black Heart.

Yet, the boy didn't seem nervous at all. Rather, the blaze of determination in his eyes surprised Zulcriz.

This was Zulcriz's battle. It was a battle to get him back to where he belonged. The humiliation he had felt, and the suffering he went through...it was all about getting back to them.

"It's not just about you anymore, Zulcriz. If you die here, every being who contains Aembr would be erased...and I can't afford that. My mother, my lovers, my comrades, friends...and my daughter, it's about all of them now."

Richard could hear Zulcriz's thoughts, that's why he responded to them verbally. He wasn't doing this just because he was a successor of the Death God, but also because he didn't want to lose anyone close to him.

Ethan's brows drew closer upon hearing that, as he glanced down.

Clenching his fist, he remained silent, until he felt someone looking at him.

Turning his eyes, he found Veris gazing at him fondly as she said, "I hope you won't back down from this final battle. We both know how much chaos Zulcriz and his kin can cause. One of his soldiers took your mother from you—so isn't it time you make him pay?"

Ethan's expression darkened...how can he forget about that incident?

The monster Headless, was someone working under the Demon General Vornyx. And the reason why Ethan's mother died was not Eleanor but Headless.

Eleanor just didn't tell him, but in the end, it was that demon that took the most precious person away from him.

The aura of the Emissary flared. The sudden brightness illuminated the darkening sky. His presence became something similar to how Atheris seemed a few moments ago when Zulcriz provoked her.

The sword in his hand gleamed with brilliant radiance as if it were responding to his silent cries.

Delicate engraving appeared on the sword, three wings protruding from the handle and a golden serpent trailing down the blade

One could tell that at that moment, Ethan stopped restraining himself. He was reminded of something that caused him to take this path. The oath he took that day, was still vivid in his mind.

And today, he has the chance to take revenge for what had happened.

Richard responded in kind. He summoned Ruyi Bang, the weapon that had become an extension of himself after months of use, fitting perfectly in his grasp as if it had always belonged there.

Then, he let go of his restraint over his Black Heart. A wave of dark energy rippled through the battlefield, suffocating and thick like the breath of death itself. The air grew heavy, pressing down on everyone like an unseen force, a silent declaration that he was, without question, the rightful successor of the Death God.

This was only the second time Richard had unleashed his Black Heart to this extent. The first had been to bring the strongest Demon General to his knees, bending even that monstrous being to his will. But this time… this time, he wasn't subjugating a foe. He was fighting for his very existence.

Eleanor's eyes remained locked on Ethan, worry tightening in her chest. She knew the man she loved was anything but weak—his strength was undeniable, his will unbreakable. And yet, she couldn't silence the fear clawing at her heart.

This wasn't just a battle; it was a war that demanded blood. One side would fall, and the other would rise. Someone would die today. And all Eleanor could do was pray that Ethan would still be standing when it was over.

The deities, sensing the shift in the air, took cautious steps back. Even they, with their immense power, did not want to be caught in the storm that was about to be unleashed.

To keep the battlefield clear, Veris raised her hand. In an instant, all undead warriors and apostles—regardless of whose side they fought for—were lifted off the ground. The magic was precise, swift, and absolute. She placed them behind the fortress, out of the way, ensuring that nothing and no one would interfere.

The ground trembled beneath their feet, cracks spreading like veins as the earth itself seemed to recoil from the power gathering in the air. The sky churned, shifting violently between darkness and light as if nature itself was unsure whether to welcome death or resist it. A storm was brewing, one that would not simply pass—it would consume everything in its wake.

And at the center of it all, two warriors stood, ready to decide the fate of the world.
