Substitute Wife for the Mafia King R18-Chapter 443: Words of Blessing
Our lips lingered on each other’s probably a moment too long before Bradon finally broke our kiss. Our lips hesitantly parted as we continued to stand right in front of each other. I couldn’t stop staring up into his face as his eyes held mine in an intense gaze filled with love and emotions. Suddenly, all the hustle and all the trouble that we went through just to get to that moment faded away and didn’t seem to matter. All I wanted, and all that mattered to me, was that Bradon was standing in front of me and that we were now officially man and wife.
In a way, I was glad that we could make things official between us after faking it and then feeling so confused as to what exactly we were for a very long time. On the other hand, it also felt like nothing had changed between us in the real sense. Perhaps, for a while now, we had always been acting as husband and wife, and the feelings that we shared had not changed. I found myself unable to stop smiling up at the man who was now my husband. I had no idea what the future held for us or what spending the rest of my life by his side would be like, but I felt extremely prepared to face whatever waited for us.
Bradon smiled back at me, and I wanted to stand there and admire his smile forever. Everyone and all the sounds surrounding us faded away, and that served as a great reminder to me that perhaps having each other could be enough. That simple thought was too simple to hold its own in reality, and soon enough, we both had to return to a world where there were other people besides us.
"May we have your attention, please. His Majesty the King would like to bless the newlyweds," a deep voice announced.
Bradon quickly wrapped his arm around my waist as he came to stand beside me as if I needed that physical support. My heart leapt in my chest and I couldn’t tell whether it was from anxiety or excitement. Our personal moment of peace was quickly shattered by the announcement made by one of Desmond’s men.
My hunch told me that Desmond probably had more to say about our marriage than to simply share words of blessing. Regardless of the hunch that I had, I had to admit that I couldn’t quite guess what Desmond had in mind. I glanced over at Bradon and he simply stroked the back of my hand gently as if he wanted to comfort me and let me know that everything would be all right. Unlike me, Bradon appeared so calm, as if he already knew what Desmond was about to do. I narrowed my eyes at him suspiciously but decided to keep quiet. It wasn’t like there was any time for me to strike up a discussion with Bradon to interrogate him about what the King was about to say. Desmond had already gotten out of his seat and was headed towards the podium where there was a microphone.
"It is an honor for me to be here in order to witness the union between two people that I hold very dear. The groom being one of my long-standing best friends, and the bride having shared multiple relationships with me. Throughout the years she has been my friend, my lover, my trusted advisor, and at one point even my betrothed," Desmond said slowly as he smiled at the audience.
My heart hammered in my chest and I began to sweat as he described the various relationships that I shared with him over the years. Of course, every single word that he uttered was true and I didn’t have any smart words to deny it. Although I was forced into an engagement with him just for show, it didn’t change the fact that we were engaged. What I was worried about was not what he had just said, but what exactly he was about to say. Desmond turned and offered me a very sweet smile that made my entire body shudder. Bradon tightened his hold around my waist before stroking the small of my back gently, and I could tell that he sensed my discomfort.
"Just hang in there and listen," Bradon whispered softly to me as he kept his attention on Desmond.
It seemed like Bradon wanted me to focus on listening to what Desmond had to say. His reaction confused me a little bit, but I decided to do exactly what I was told. After all, not listening to the King could lead to severe punishment. Desmond continued staring at me as he paused for effect. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
"I would like to take this opportunity to make a very important announcement. After much consideration and discussion, I have decided to place my faith in Bradon Vulcan as he runs for the upcoming election. I have tried my very best to convince Bradon to participate in politics and the management of our country for the betterment of our people for a very long time, and I am pleased to announce that our visions have finally aligned," Desmond announced before looking straight at Bradon.
It felt like my entire body had frozen into ice at his words. I had not anticipated such a move from both Desmond and Bradon, because I couldn’t see Bradon taking such a public position such as a politician and engaging in the management of the country at Desmond’s discretion. After spending all of his life living in the shadows, it seemed that somehow Desmond had managed to convince Bradon to step not only into the light but directly into the spotlight where everyone would have their attention on him. I felt my brows drawing together as a deep frown formed on my forehead. For the life of me, I wasn’t sure what exactly these two men had planned or how they arrived at the conclusion that this was the best outcome.
