Chapter 60: The Human Deity

The door to the living room opened as Torq hesitantly set foot within, noticing there was only one person inside. It was Eureur, his mother.

’Uh...’ He shivered upon seeing Eureur express horror upon laying her gaze upon him, ’...shit!’

"You’re here, Boiboi." Eureur extended her hand towards Torq and beckoned for him to move closer to her, "Don’t stand there."

"Come closer so that I can see your face better." She said in tranquil happiness, her expression truly one of joy.

"Yes...mother!" Torq stopped within arm’s distance of Eureur and bowed slightly so that she could reach his face.

"You’ve...grown." Eureur uttered as she placed her palm on Torq’s cheeks, "I can feel your growth. It’s impressive, so much that I am terrified."

A layer of water covered her index finger as it dug into Torq’s cheek, stopping only after reaching the tongue. Eureur seemed to have realised her actions as she hurriedly retracted her hand and gasped in fluster, "Y-You’re not hurt, are you?"

"This is nothing," Torq shook his head and watched his cheek injury struggling to heal. There was a trace amount of water covering the wounded muscle section, repelling away the Prana that gathered at the region in an effort to heal the wound.

A few seconds later, the water vaporised, following which his Prana began its healing function. Until then, Eureur eyed him with a guilty expression, "If only I didn’t birth you with such...cruel fate..."

Tears streamed down her eyes as she gently grabbed Torq’s hands, "Your mother apologises for her fault."

"I’m sorry."

"I am fine..." Torq flinched upon seeing a layer of water seep into his hands from Eureur’s and freeze over, preventing him from moving the two limbs.

"Let me apologise," Eureur said strictly and eyed Torq guiltily, "That’s all I can do, after all."

"I’m sorry, my son."

Torq grunted in pain, watching his arms shatter into small cubes of ice. His Prana sought to regenerate the arms, but took a longer time than usual, making the regeneration rate seem dreadfully low.

"Your Spirit Pool?" Eureur asked next once she eyed his snail’s pace in regeneration.

"Gentle Coral," Torq replied honestly, trying his best to curb his instinct to flee from the place.

"That is shit," Eureur snorted in disdain, "No matter how much you’re despised, with your talent, you should have been given the Lightning Plasma Spirit Pool."

"But, Gentle Coral?" Her expression morphed into one of anger. She snapped her finger, causing the layer of mist covering a door to dissipate, following which a Cooter Clansman rushed inside and bowed respectfully.

"The retards that made the decision to grant my son the Gentle Coral Spirit Pool," Eureur eyed the Cooter Clansman, "Summon all of them here."

"Yes," The Cooter Clansman nodded and retreated behind the door, which promptly closed shut, followed by the mist covering its surface.

"So," Eureur faced Torq, "Why was your score such a pity?"

"I made plenty of mistakes," Torq tried to explain as simply as possible, "I peeled the facial skins of many students, which deducted my points repeatedly. And whenever I was whipped thanks to my actions, my Spirit Container accumulations dropped..."

Thwack!

A barbed whip of water slapped him on the back, promptly coursing through the pores on his skin to invade his body and trigger every pain sensor in his nervous system, "ARGH!"

Torq almost fainted from the magnitude of pain, something he had never felt even in his previous lifetimes. It was an overwhelming level of pain, something that had reached levels his brain ought to have naturally cut off signals from the pain receptors, but for some reason, hadn’t done so.

For three whole seconds, it was torturous, causing him to lack the strength in will to even writhe around. And then, the pain disappeared, prompting his Prana to focus on recovery.

A warm sensation pervaded his being as Torq noticed Eureur eyeing him in genuine shock, surprise, and most evidently, pride.

"Your Spirit Container didn’t even tremble once under such levels of pain." Her lips curled up in glee, "You’ve already exceeded the level of tolerance I possessed at your age."

Eureur made a mental calculation while making ticking actions on her palm, following which she addressed Torq, "Seek my advice daily. I’ll strengthen your fundamentals."

"And once you’re ready, I’ll send you out on dangerous missions so that you can quickly stack up your contributions." She expressed her intent to nurture Torq, "Give it your all, and I guarantee it. You’ll receive the Lightning Plasma Spirit Pool within a year."

Spirit Pool–Lightning Plasma!

It was the most powerful Spirit Pool that could be produced by an Empyrean Snapper, accumulated exclusively for Settlement Leaders, for those who build their bodies using the Lightning Plasma Spirit Pool will have Gold Grade strength and casually live past a millennium.

"But...why?" Torq expressed his confusion, "Don’t you wish for my death, mother?"

"What kind of mother wishes for her child to die?" Eureur groaned in disdain, "Those that do so are nothing but pathetic existences."

"I am not one of them."

Observing Torq’s silence, Eureur motioned for him to come closer and gently grabbed his hand once again, ignoring the latter’s shivers to begin speaking, "It is indeed a fact that when Runthral consumes you, his abilities will blossom. I was the one who verified this in the first place."

"Then, why?" Torq expressed his confusion, unnerved by his mother’s gentle gaze, one churning with pity, "Why do you want me to obtain the power of a Settlement Leader?"

"Your older twin," Eureru sighed, "He’s pretty lacking in every regard, despite being born with power that allows him to dominate over all of us."

"You see," She made eye contact with Torq, "It seems pretty bleak. I’m not even sure if Runthral could ever harness the entirety of his existing potential."

"You’re needed to protect him." She patted his cheeks with pride, "Your talent is one of the highest in our Clan, but best of all, I am confident you have what it takes to harness the entirety of your potential."

"With you serving as Runthral’s Settlement Leader, even if he fails to live up to his potential, he’ll still manage to live until the end of his lifespan." She concluded, "And if he were to ever reach the end of his potential, you will feed yourself to him and expand upon his potential."

"Twins are two halves of one." She stated in pity, "I intend to nurture your half into becoming full on its own, so that when you give it to Runthral in the future, he’ll have two wholes."

"That’s why I value you." She gently pinched Torq’s cheeks, ’And also why I fear you, for just like how Runthral will be empowered by consuming you, the reverse is also possible.’

’I fear, I fear too much, that if you were ever to attempt devouring Runthral, you could easily succeed.’ For a moment, her hands trembled in fear, instinctively using her power to destroy Torq’s cheeks, ’I know, since I’ve birthed you.’

She made eye contact with Torq, revealing a dry smile while expressing terror, ’My...pitifully proud son. The quality of the Empyrean Snapper genes in you is so high that traditionally, you ought to possess the Buoyant Disease.’

’However, when I researched your existence, I came to a scary realization.’ She retracted her hand and gave enough time for Torq to heal his injury, all while staring at the other party, ’You terrify me, so, so, so much, Boiboi. My son, I have done everything in my power to hide this fact. But the truth is, the truth of your existence will destroy the very foundation that props up the Cooter Clan.’

She thought in self-pity, ’You, my proudly pitiful son, are a Deity in human form.’
