Survive As The Brute's Wife-Chapter 175: Asking For Help
{Let’s leave, Maximus...}
Ithildin spoke to Maximus through the spirit. Ithildin didn’t know how Maximus knew that Arioch would be finding Rephelim. It could very well be Calantar who could have informed him through visions.
Although Ithildin tried his best to limit the interactions between Maximus and Inanis, he was unable to do so entirely. No one is powerful enough to go against Inanis, and even in Inanis’ weakened form, Ithildin is not capable of going against Inanis.
It is the truth. Not everyone is created equal and accepting that is maturity.
And now, Ithildin could sense that Inanis is trying to contact Maximus. This is probably why Inanis led Maximus here. Inanis thirsts for the Lukyan bloodline. And Maximus just followed his wishes just because he is getting ruled by his vengeance.
«We are not leaving anywhere, Ithildin! We are going to fight!»
Ithildin heard Maximus’ inner voice. He regretted his inability in guiding Maximus away from here which is mandatory. As a spiritual beast, he will have to follow his heart and do what he wishes to. But he is a summoned beast and he should do what his summoner asks of him.
The long neck of the beast reached for them. Baring its teeth that are strong and crisscross like saws, the beast reached for Ithildin’s wings.
"Stay back" Maximus roared and drew out his sword. A bolt of lightning fell from the sky on its head.
The sparks caused by the lightning didn’t pass through the beast but spread across the scales of the beast, creating a buzzing noise. The beast started to glow, rather than get burnt. Maximus was stunned seeing the little flashes of light buzzing on the beast.
The best, furious, turned its entire attention at Maximus. He urged Ithildin to get to Arioch. He cannot fight with the beast and win now that he learned that his most powerful weapon is useless against the beast. But he can take down Arioch with him.
Arioch kneeling on the sand, covering the Orb with his belly saw the flying horse darting towards him. He searched for any weapon, but there was nothing on him. he didn’t understand why the raven got rid of his trusty dagger... It was then he realized that he lost his dagger when he chopped off his feet to escape.
He turned to his right to see the mouth of the Rephelim opening. Its throat was wide as the opening of the Kaihil volcanic mountain. And its throat resembled the crater too. He saw flashes of orange in the insides of the throat. Something dark rose from the belly and Arioch realized it was smoke. The dark smoke escaped through its nostrils.
<Don’t tell me this beast breathes fire!>
Arioch picked up the Orb and hopped and ran back. Maximus was not looking to the side. He was not caring about the beast at all and all he concentrated was on Arioch. Both Arioch and Maximus didn’t notice the little darkness leaking from the cracks of the Orb.
{Maximus!}
Ithildin warned Maximus of the immediate danger. Maximus felt the hot burst of air from his side and only then did he notice the big ball of fire coming at him. Ithilding raised a shield of light so that the fire wouldn’t hurt them directly.
{Maximus, I won’t be able to hold on longer...We cannot handle the next attack...}
Ithildin told Maximus.
"Catch him!" Maximus pointed at Arioch. If he is going to die by the fire, he will take down Arioch with him.
"No!!!" Arioch shouted as he couldn’t bear the heatwave. He couldn’t believe that he is going to get scorched by the fireball next.
{I cannot hold back anymore, Maximus...}
Ithildin said. In his blue eyes, he saw the strength of the fire still not reducing. The beast hasn’t finished with its one round of blowing fire yet. And Ithildin struggled to keep the shield up.
Maximus was not listening to Ithildin as he was seeing another figure in front of him. That mesmerizing lady he meets in the visions, the one who always gives him comfort and shows his path, was standing in front of him, gesturing daintily with her fingers to get closer.
’Come hither...’ she said and giggled. ’I have something to show you...’
Maximus looked at her and smiled. Whenever he is with Calantar, he would forget who he is and who he is in love with. He will turn into a boy... A boy who needs his mother.
It was Calantar who has made him accept his death in his path to attain revenge. He can die happily, as long as he changes history by letting everyone know the truth and making sure that Luke is destroyed.
Even now, he left his men to fight the desert clans alone and came here under the advice of Calantar. She knows everything. She knows where to find Arioch, and she led him right here. And now, he trusted that Calantar would help eliminate Arioch.
Maximus stood up on Ithildin’s back, and with a smile lifted his foot to take a step forward. Calantar who is smiling in front of him seemed more real than ever. In his distorted vision, he failed to notice that the silhouette he is seeing right now is just a dark, murky mist—the one popularly known to everyone as Inanis.
But he didn’t see it. He was so used to seeing Inanis as Calantar, that he only started seeing Calantar. Calantar is the only one who understands him and tells him what he wants to hear. He has no one else who understands him. He wanted to get to her as she asks him to.
{No! Stop, Maximus!}
Ithildin screamed to snap Maximus out of the hypnosis of Inanis. Ithildin was already spent in dealing with the fireball from the beast, and he was in no way capable of fighting Inanis.
Inanis is calling Maximus to die. Because once he is about to die, or badly hurt, Inanis can gain control of Maximus’ entire soul. And that’s how he will walk on earth. Maximus has already made it easier for Inanis to rule since he has conquered the larger part of the world.
This cannot be allowed to happen.
{Maximus!}
Ithildin used his last strength and dragged Maximus towards the fire. Because he knew that letting Inanis take over Maximus’ body would be much more dangerous than letting Inanis go lose without a physical body.
In that tough moment, Ithildin made a choice to destroy Maximus’ body than letting Inanis take control of Maximus.
{Someone... help...}
Ithildin cried for help for a final time. As a summoned beast, he cannot cause the death of his summoner. His soul won’t be redeemed for all eternity if he is found guilty of killing his summoner. He was in a serious dilemma.
{Please... Maximus... Listen to me... }
Ithildin pleaded with Maximus.
«Ithildin!»
Maximus heard the abysmal plea of his summoned beast and his attention turned from Calantar towards Ithildin.
«Ithildin... Hold on... Are you hurt..?»
Maximus snapped out of his reverie and sat on Ithildin’s back once more. He didn’t know what he was doing standing on Ithildin.
He certainly doesn’t want to jump... No, certainly not. He needs to meet his wife and will have to die in her hand for all to see.
«Hold on... I’ll distract the beast...»
The beast was still spitting fire. Maximus saw the sand below melting and at the places that have cooled off, Fulgurite crystals were forming.
"Leave us alone!" Maximus shouted, and with everything he got, summoned another lightning strike. A thousand bolts of lightning descended from the sky.
Even Maximus could not look to his front as it was blinding. The day became a lot brighter even with the sun.
«Ithildin! Step back!»
He asked Ithildin and lend him some of his mana to recover. He has a duty to keep his summoned beast safe.
He tried to look for Arioch, but in the blinding light, he couldn’t see him either. He hoped one of the bolts of lightning hits Arioch in the head and he dies. But he had a good look at the beast. Ithildin was smaller than a single scale on that beast’s body. A single tooth of the beast was longer than his height.
«We cannot stay here... Ah...»
He held his head which was hurting as if a thousand nails are getting nailed to his head. His stomach churned and he had an urge to jump down from Ithildin.
But he didn’t want to. At this height, he will not die, but he will be seriously hurt. He didn’t know why he is having an urge to jump, though. He held his gut which was hurting as if something is raring to get out. He squinted his eyes and grabbed his chest as it felt tight.
He bent and saw it... Inside him, there was something... A box... and something dark is oozing out from there.
«No! What is happening to me?»
Ithildin was thankful Maximus could get his senses back. The beast was not pleased with the lightning attack and was distracted. Ithildin used this chance and flew away from there as quickly as possible.
But Ithildin felt the darkness that is creeping over him. He was familiar with that darkness. It was Maximus’.
{Oh, not now, Maximus... Get a grip!}
Ithildin decided to take Maximus to the Nandor Elves. But then he thought of a much better plan.
{Arimelda! Help Us!}
He screamed.
{Kefir! Help!}
