Surviving in a School of Ghost Stories-Chapter 13

If all of this is real and ghost stories do exist, couldn’t the priests from the Celestial Church at the school solve it?

"I know what you're thinking. Actually, there's a priest at our school named Father Cesario who’s really focused on exorcisms," Erica pointed out, exactly hitting on what I was thinking.

I scratched my cheek awkwardly and nodded in agreement.

Erica continued explaining.

"But every time he tries to deal with a problem, another priest named Father Miella interferes."

"Why? What’s the reason? They’re both priests, so why is he doing that?"

"He says that if we perform an exorcism and get involved with these delusions of students, it will tarnish the reputation of the school."

That sounds like something a modern person would think.

It wasn’t entirely wrong, though. Even though I’d been experiencing strange events, I still couldn’t fully believe in everything that was happening.

"Well, if there hasn't been any concrete harm, like loss of life, it would be hard to jump in without cause."

"It’s always easy to fix things after the problem arises," Erica sharply retorted.

She seems to seriously believe in the truth of the ghost stories.

An awkward silence followed.

Unable to bear the silence, Erica squirmed in her seat.

"Ah, ahem. I can tell you didn’t get a proper education because of your difficult family situation."

She said it as if she were doing me a favor.

"I don’t know how you managed to transfer, but I guess you’ll either get expelled soon or drop out. This isn’t a school where someone like you can survive. Don’t get the wrong idea, though. I’m only hanging out with you because I feel sorry for you."

I wondered what Erica would say when she found out I was the one who scored full marks on the transfer exam.

The dean mentioned that my name would be in the school history book, but would they really expel me? For now, it seems unlikely.

Erica tidied up and stood up.

"I’m going to bed now."

She went back to the bedroom and fell asleep first, while I sat alone at my desk, deep in thought.

Before going to bed, I needed to organize everything I had experienced so far and plan for what was to come.

Scritch, scratch.

I wrote my plans down in my notebook with a pencil.

Plan A: Convince Raven to drop out as quickly as possible. Then, I’ll take him and leave the island.

This still seemed like the simplest approach.

But the real issue was Plan B, the backup if Plan A failed.

If I failed to convince Raven to drop out, I’d have to switch to a long-term plan.

Plan B: Stay at the school and protect Raven directly. Stay by his side, investigating the cause of his death.

Writing down Plan B made me hope even more that Plan A would succeed.

‘I really hope I don’t have to go to Plan B.’

As I kept writing my plans, drowsiness gradually crept in. I didn’t even notice my head starting to nod.

...I’m so tired.

...I shouldn’t fall asleep now.

...I should be in bed.

...The dorm bed was supposed to be really comfy.

But when I regained my senses, I found myself asleep, slumped over on the desk.

It seemed I had fallen asleep while writing my plans.

Cheep, cheep—

The chirping of sparrows outside the window woke me up.

Sunlight was pouring through the curtains. Morning had arrived.

My whole body ached and felt stiff from sleeping at my desk.

I massaged my numb arms and sat up, blinking my eyes groggily.

The clock on the desk read 8 AM.

Turning around, I saw Erica on the living room carpet on the first floor, rolling around with the black cat.

She froze in place when our eyes met.

Her face turned bright red.

"This, this, this... this is..."

I had thought she was a typical arrogant noble, but maybe she wasn’t.

I barely held back a laugh.

"Ah, wow, it’s already this late. Sorry, Erica. I’m in a rush."

I changed the subject by pretending to check the time on my watch, not wanting Erica to feel embarrassed.

I hurriedly washed up, changed clothes, and rushed out of the dorm room.

I promised myself that today, I would definitely meet Raven.

"Oh, right. Kkamang."

I turned around and called the cat. Kkamang ran to me.

Looks like the cat already remembered its name. It was smarter than I thought.

"I’ll be back soon."

I petted Kkamang and stood up to leave, but the cat suddenly jumped into my arms.

"Huh? Are you coming too? Aren’t cats supposed to avoid wandering around?"

I tried to put Kkamang down, but—

Meow!

The cat struggled and refused to come down. Well, I guess I had no choice.

I ended up carrying Kkamang and was about to close the dorm room door when I noticed Erica fidgeting outside.

I tilted my head in confusion, then realized she was staring at Kkamang in my arms.

"Do you want to come with me?"

When I asked, she nodded vigorously, almost as if she had been waiting for the invitation.

"Yes!"

She answered without hesitation, but then cleared her throat awkwardly and changed the subject.

"Ha, well, you probably don’t know your way around the school, so I’m just going with you because you look like you’re going to get lost. It’s the roommate's duty."

Erica wasn’t being very honest. She actually seemed a little cute.

It seemed like her main purpose was to see Kkamang, but I didn’t mind.

For some reason, I felt like everything was going to go well today.

The day before school started, Leonard was still thinking about the transfer student.

Melody Hastings was a mysterious beauty.

She looked so fragile, like she could collapse at any moment, but her eyes, as blue as lush greenery, were strong and firm.

Her unique tear marks only added to her allure, making it impossible not to notice her.

But Leonard wasn’t the only one to recognize her special qualities.

The head of the Student Council, 4th-year Western Campbell Lauderdale, also showed interest.

He adjusted his glasses and asked Leonard.

"Didn’t we get a perfect score transfer student this time? Raven Hastings' sister, right? Is that true? Leonard, you saw her, right? You must’ve gone to the transfer exam."

Hearing this, the new Student Council freshman, Kira, added to the conversation.

"Yes, senior. She’s a real beauty, and the whole school’s talking about her. They even posted it on the bulletin board!"

Leonard, sitting by the window in the Student Council room, simply shrugged instead of answering.

"If she’s the top transfer student, she’ll probably join the Student Council."

Maddox, who had been quietly listening, guessed.

"She might join the Student Council."

"They’re full," Western replied nonchalantly.

The top-scoring student at Saint Gloria ~Nоvеl𝕚ght~ Private School had to choose between the Student Council and the Discipline Committee to join.

As Western said, the Student Council had already reached its full capacity of 7 members.

So, it seemed likely that Melody would join the Discipline Committee, which still had space for one more member.

‘Raven’s in the Student Council, though.’

I had a feeling that Melody would be disappointed when she found out.

But it couldn’t be helped.

Leonard hummed a tune. The Discipline Committee activities were going to be more interesting now.

Erica, following me with Kkamang in her arms, looked surprised when she heard Raven’s name.

"Hastings? I knew I’d heard that name somewhere... Is Raven Hastings your brother?"

"Do you know my brother?"

"I’m in the Student Council. He’s the new member who joined last semester. I didn’t recognize him at first since you two don’t look alike."

Erica tilted her head, then puffed out her chest proudly.

"I’ll show you the Student Council room. He’s usually there unless something’s going on."

My roommate was in the Student Council.

It seemed like solving the problem would be easier than I thought.

But contrary to my hopeful expectations, when I reached the Student Council room, no one was there.
