Surviving In Another World With My Three Cups!-Chapter 127: Lady’s Banquet 3
Lin Xu went back to her quarters after the meeting. It was already getting dark as the day slowly came to an end.
She sat on her bed and sighed softly before calling out, "Susu."
At once, Susu appeared with a small smile. "Seems like Host is now aware of her designated task. Is there anything I can help with?"
Lin Xu’s expression turned serious. "I want to know about Lady Fu. She’s the guest of honor for the event. I need to know why she’s so important."
Susu nodded. "Lady Fu, full name Fu Wanrong, is the wife of the First Duke. Her family, the Fu clan, is powerful; her father was the Grand Chancellor, and her brother is now the Minister of Rites. She’s also close to the imperial consort."
Lin Xu frowned. "So she’s someone no one dares to offend."
"Exactly," Susu said. "She’s polite but strict. Once you cross her, she won’t forget. Everyone takes her visits seriously."
Lin Xu sighed. "Great, another person I have to be careful around."
Susu smiled slightly. "Don’t worry, Host. You’ll be fine. But it’s strange; Lady Fu hasn’t attended this banquet for years. The fact that she’s coming now means something must have changed."
Lin Xu looked down. "You think it’s San Na?"
"Most likely," Susu replied. "Whatever she’s planning, Lady Fu’s visit will make things more complicated."
Lin Xu nodded. "Then I’ll just make sure I don’t become her target."
Susu grinned. "That’s the right attitude, Host."
With that, Susu disappeared into thin air, leaving the room quiet again. Lin Xu stood up and stretched a little. Her stomach rumbled softly; she hadn’t eaten since afternoon.
"The kids went out with Yan Mei... who knows where," she muttered to herself, shaking her head as she stepped outside. "Guess I’ll just make something myself."
The sky had already turned a soft shade of orange, the last bit of daylight fading behind the walls of the Mo residence. Lin Xu walked through the long corridor toward the kitchen, the sound of her own footsteps echoing softly.
But before she could turn the corner, a maid hurried toward her and bowed. "Lady Lin," she said politely, "the General requests your presence."
Lin Xu blinked, a little surprised. "The General?" she repeated.
"Yes, my lady. He’s waiting for you," the maid said quickly.
Lin Xu hesitated. Remembering what had happened earlier that morning, her face turned a little red. Her heart skipped slightly, but she tried to stay calm. "I... understand," she said quietly, nodding before following the maid.
The maid led her through several paths, past gardens and courtyards she had never been through before. The more they walked, the quieter it became. The sound of the evening breeze brushing through the trees was the only thing she could hear.
After a while, Lin Xu frowned slightly. "Is it really this far?" she asked.
The maid didn’t answer, only saying, "We’re almost there, my lady," and kept walking ahead.
Something didn’t feel right. They had taken so many turns that even Lin Xu wasn’t sure where she was anymore. Her instincts screamed that something was off. Without saying a word, she quietly reached up, pulling out a sharp hairpin from her bun.
Her grip tightened around it. She wasn’t going to let herself be tricked again, not after what happened with the head maid that almost poisoned her.
Just as she was about to question the maid or threaten her if needed, the maid suddenly stopped and turned around with a strange smile. "We’ve arrived," she said in a low voice. "The General isn’t far from here." 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
Before Lin Xu could respond, the maid turned around and walked away quickly, disappearing behind the trees.
Lin Xu’s brows drew together. "What’s with that creepy smile..." she muttered.
Still, she slowly walked forward, her hand still holding the hairpin tightly. The path opened into a wide garden, filled with blooming flowers and pink trees at the edges. The air was quiet, too quiet.
As she took another step forward, she noticed two figures standing near a small old-looking house up ahead. Their backs were turned, and they seemed to be talking in low voices.
Lin Xu squinted, trying to make out their faces, but before she could call out, the two suddenly moved closer.
Her breath caught when she realized what she was seeing.
The man leaned down, and the woman tilted her head up; then their lips met.
Lin Xu froze, her eyes widening in shock. For a moment, her mind went completely blank. Then, as the man turned slightly, the dim moonlight hit his face and her heart sank.
It was Mo Ying.
And the woman he was kissing... was San Na.
Lin Xu stood rooted to the spot, her fingers trembling slightly around the hairpin. She wanted to look away, but she couldn’t. Her chest felt tight.
Turning away, she slipped the hairpin back into her hair and walked off silently, not wanting either of them to notice she had seen everything.
"Men will always be men," she said under her breath as she walked away.
After Lin Xu left quietly, the garden fell into silence again.
But in the next second, a sharp sound broke the stillness. Mo Ying pushed San Na away roughly.
San Na stumbled back a few steps, her hair slightly messy, surprise flashing in her eyes. Mo Ying’s jaw tightened as he wiped the corner of his lips, spitting a bit of blood onto the ground.
"You bit me," he said coldly, glaring at her. His voice was low, filled with anger. "What do you think you’re doing, San Na? Why did you bring me here?"
San Na’s chest rose and fell quickly. For a moment, she looked angry, then her expression softened into a mocking smile. "What am I doing? I only wanted to spend a little time with my husband," she said slowly, her tone calm but laced with bitterness.
Mo Ying’s eyes darkened. "You tried to force yourself on me again," he said sharply. "For crying out loud, do you enjoy forcing yourself on people?"
San Na didn’t answer right away. Instead, she looked past him, her gaze drifting toward the path where Lin Xu had just disappeared. Her lips curved into a small, knowing smirk.
"If I can’t even be close to my husband anymore," she said softly, "is that such a crime?"
Mo Ying’s brows furrowed, his patience clearly wearing thin. "Enough," he said in a cold tone. "Don’t ever try something like this again. Whatever you’re planning, stop it before it goes too far."
He didn’t wait for her reply. Turning, he walked off without looking back.
San Na stood there alone, her faint smile slowly fading. The calm expression on her face turned cold, her eyes dark and unreadable as she whispered under her breath, "If I can’t make you hate Lin Xu, then I’ll make her hate you instead."
