Chapter 148: Chapter 148: Poisoned Arrow

But then, something unexpected happened. The Shun Yuan completely ignored the arrow, which wasn’t even as long as its palm, and simply turned to attack again.

What crushed Wu Yue’s hopes was that as the creature turned, it even gave its rear a brazen wiggle, flicking the arrow aside.

It had been launched with such flair, only for the result to be so utterly humiliating.

The sight of the arrow, swatted aside by the Shun Yuan’s rear and now lying in the grass, was rather... pungent.

"Wu Yue, what is this?"

Yuan Qi, dodging the Shun Yuan’s attack, landed near the arrow. Just as he was about to bend down and pick it up, Wu Yue’s expression changed drastically.

She quickly shouted to stop him, "Uncle Yuan Qi, the black part at the tip is poisonous! When you’re fighting, try to scratch the Shun Yuan with it! That way, we might still have a chance!"

The other Beastmen were overjoyed to hear this. Yuan Qi casually tore off a vine, wrapped it around his hand, and picked up the poison-tipped arrow.

He then rejoined the battle.

However, the arrow was no match for a Beastman’s sharp claws. Again and again, the arrow in Uncle Yuan Qi’s hand scraped across the Shun Yuan’s fur, failing to so much as harm a single hair.

"Uncle, aim for its weak spots!"

Wu Yue was watching so anxiously that her grip on the next arrow loosened, and it flew from her bow by accident.

The familiar whizz of an arrow cutting through the air sounded. The Shun Yuan had intended to ignore it, but as the arrow neared, the fur all over its body suddenly stood on end.

But by then, it was too late. The sharp arrow plunged straight in. After a short, furious roar, the Shun Yuan began to howl wretchedly. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

Seeing its companion’s wretched state, the other Shun Yuan seemed stunned by the scene. It unconsciously backed away several steps and hid behind a large tree, peeking its head out, terrified it would be the next unlucky victim.

The middle-aged Beastmen stood there, expressions of utter disbelief on their faces, staring at the black arrow sticking out of the Shun Yuan’s... chrysanthemum.

They all turned to look at Wu Yue with complicated expressions.

Yuan Qi suddenly had a flash of insight. "So, Yue," he said, "the weak spot you were talking about was the chrysanthemum."

Wu Yue: "..."

’No, listen to me, this is a complete misunderstanding! My hand just slipped!’

After waiting a moment and seeing no more of those palm-sized wooden sticks, the Shun Yuan that had been cowering moments before immediately leaped out from behind the tree.

It glanced around, and as if sensing the "harmonious" atmosphere, it let out a roar and charged toward the middle-aged Beastmen again.

Its speed and momentum suggested it was about to snatch one of them and make a run for it.

Yuan Qi and the others scrambled to dodge. "Wu Yue, another arrow!"

With a stiff expression, Wu Yue said, "That was just a fluke."

The words had barely left her mouth when a large, well-defined hand took the bow from her.

A low, magnetic voice sounded by her ear. "Arrow."

Wu Yue quickly handed him an arrow soaked in venom. "Be careful of the poison."

The Beastman grunted in acknowledgment. He nocked, drew, and fired in one smooth, practiced, and cool motion.

As the arrow flew, the Shun Yuan let out a bloodcurdling shriek.

Wu Yue turned to look. The arrow had plunged directly into one of the Shun Yuan’s enormous eyes.

The potent poison instantly spread through its pupil.

By the time the other Beastmen snapped out of it, both Shun Yuan were already dead.

Yuan Qi and the other middle-aged Beastmen exchanged a look, sharing a palpable sense of relief, as if they had just survived a disaster.

The exposed skin of the two Shun Yuan had already turned black.

"This poison is terrifying."

Yuan Lang walked over, holding a few herbs in his hand. "It’s the venom from the same kind of Snake Beast that bit one of the Lion Tribe’s Beastmen last time. I helped her collect it."
