Chapter 230: Meeting the In-Laws (1)

Lucian quickly shut his mouth the moment Medeia said that. Out of all the scary things in this world, losing the chance to kiss her lips was, without a doubt, the most terrifying one for him.

He shook his head, almost like a scared puppy. "I’m not saying it. I won’t say it."

Medeia smiled, standing on tip toe to kiss his lips once more. "Good boy."

From inside the van, Tian, Naomi, and Ethan watched them with faces full of annoyance or maybe even a little disgust, as if they were about to throw up from watching the two lovebirds acting so sweet.

Then again, finding a lover in the apocalypse wasn’t easy, so maybe they were just jealous.

Medeia knocked on the car roof lightly. "Alright, let’s head to the church now."

After everyone got back in, Lucian started the engine and drove slowly down the empty street.

Every now and then, he would glance at Medeia from the corner of his eye, his expression full of guilt. He sighed softly over and over again, clearly struggling to hide how sorry he felt.

It wasn’t hard for Medeia to notice. She could read him better than anyone.

With a soft sigh, she said, "Lucian, you’ll make me angry if you keep looking at me like a lost puppy."

She reached out and gently pinched his cheek. "I’m fine. I’m really fine."

Lucian stayed quiet, too scared he might say something that would upset Medeia again.

Tian, who had been listening silently, suddenly joined in. "So you’re saying ... you were in the same place as Finn? Is that the reason you didn’t turn into a Lost back then?"

"No," Medeia answered right away. "I don’t have a chip inside my head like Finn. I was just lucky. That’s all."

Tian frowned, clearly not buying it. "I don’t believe in luck, not in this messed-up world."

Medeia sighed and shrugged. "Believe it or not, that’s how it happened." Then, with a small smile, she added, "Maybe the universe just wanted me to meet my perfect future husband."

All three people sitting in the backseat pretended to gag at the exact same time.

"Hey!" Medeia huffed. "You’re all just jealous because you’re single!"

Before anyone could reply, Lucian tugged on her sleeve and whispered nervously, "Medeia ... why are those old men staring at me like they want to bury me alive? Did I do something wrong?"

Lucian had been a soldier on the same military base as them years ago, but as part of the Special Forces, he rarely showed up at the regular barracks.

Besides, he almost always wore a mask, which made it almost impossible for them to recognize him, especially after so much time had passed.

But as Lucian looked closer, he realized it wasn’t just him. The old people were also staring at Tian and Ethan with sharp, cold eyes. For a second, he seriously thought they were about to pull out a gun and shoot them all right then and there.

"Oh, right! I almost forgot to tell you," Medeia said with a sweet smile, as if she wasn’t about to drop a bomb. "They kinda want to kill you."

Lucian slammed the brakes so hard the van jerked. He turned to Medeia, eyes wide with disbelief. "You forgot to mention that?!"

"Why?" he asked confusedly.

Medeia just shrugged like it was no big deal. "Because you’re my boyfriend. That’s pretty much the only reason. I think we were like family before, but I’m not sure. My memories are still blurry."

Tian, who had been listening the whole time, rolled down the window without hesitation, stuck his head out, and shouted, "THE BLONDE ONE IS HER BOYFRIEND!"

He did it on purpose, making sure they wouldn’t mistake someone else for Medeia’s boyfriend and end up taking their anger out on the wrong person.

Naomi immediately burst into laughter. "Lucian, congratulations! You officially have grandparents-in-law now!"

Lucian rubbed his face, groaning. He wasn’t sure if this was something to celebrate or cry about.

As he drove the van a little closer to the church and parked, he suddenly thought that maybe it would be smarter to stay inside the van.

But Medeia nudged him gently and said with a soft smile, "Come on, you’ll be fine. I’ll always be right here with you."

At least, that’s what she had promised.

When Lucian finally stood in front of the old men, Medeia just stood quietly beside them, calmly watching like she was enjoying a live drama show.

Meanwhile, the others followed Sora inside the church to take shelter.

Lucian gave his most charming smile, the one that usually could melt people’s hearts in seconds. He reached out his hand politely, hoping for a handshake.

But Eldon just turned his head and spat on the ground.

Lucian’s smile froze. Slowly and awkwardly, he pulled his hand back. "My name is Lucian Charon. You can just call me Lucian." He paused for a second, then added carefully, "I’m thirty ... five this year."

"Are you crazy?! Why would a middle-aged man like you be dating our little Snow?!" shouted Gideon.

Middle-aged?! Lucian’s mind almost blanked. He was still in his early thirties! He didn’t even have a single gray hair yet!

Lucian opened his mouth to defend himself but closed it again, realizing he had no idea what words wouldn’t make things worse.

"He told me I looked beautiful," Medeia suddenly said sweetly, acting like an innocent little girl. "Like a fresh flower."

Lucian wanted to scream. He knew she was doing it on purpose. Instead of helping him, she decided to plant bombs on his way.

"You bastard!" Gideon shouted, grabbing Lucian by the collar. "Tell me! What’s your real reason for making her your girlfriend?! Did you brainwash her to make her obedient to you?!" frёeωebɳovel.com

"We want to have a baby together," Medeia said casually from the side, like it was the most normal thing in the world.

"You bastard!" Eldon exploded, grabbing Lucian’s shirt with both hands. "Do you want to be castrated right here, right now?!"

Lucian’s soul almost left his body. His face went pale as he turned to Medeia in disbelief. She just smiled sweetly, clearly enjoying every second of his suffering.

Gideon cracked his knuckles beside them. "I’ll hold him down if you need help."

Lucian, frozen between two furious old men, thought to himself, This is worse than facing a pack of monsters.
