Chapter 36: Ch. 34 - End of Mission (3)

Weimei blinked, quickly shifting her sight away from the woman called C. Her face turned to M with a confused expression. What did he mean by becoming the third person? Was the young man implying what she thought?

"Stop bluffing, M. There’s nothing between us. Tell me the truth. Do you want her to join us? Are you sure she can be trusted?"

M shrugged and then stared intensely at Weimei. "Your first task," he said, "is to find out about the new prime minister. Behind him is Super Demon Zagabob. I want to know if Lasyana has any connections with that demon or not. Meet me in two days. C and I will be at the most expensive inn."

Weimei hadn’t expected her first task to be related to demon Zagabob. But she wasn’t disappointed. On the contrary, she liked it. It was more challenging, more adrenaline-inducing. When she dreamed of being the best informant, this was exactly what she had in mind. Realizing this made her aware of how much time she had wasted working for Bearbro.

Weimei nodded. She also understood that M’s comment about her being the third person was a joke. The young man in front of her wasn’t interested in forming any bonds with her; he simply wanted her to work for him. Whatever the relationship between M and C was, it wasn’t her business. Nor was she obligated to interact with the woman.

"I’ll be there in two days," the informant said before darting away, not bothering to greet the masked woman.

"What are you planning? Who is she?" Celinee approached Mariel with a sharp glare. "You’re hiding something from me."

"As I said, she’s Weimei." Mariel focused his gaze on his partner. "She’s Bearbro’s trusted informant, the leader of One Eye whom I just killed. I tested her abilities with that task. I assume you understand what I mean."

Celinee was smart. Mariel knew his partner could reach the intended conclusion without further elaboration. She didn’t need to know his true intentions. Of course, he knew Celinee would eventually grow suspicious. But if he could avoid involving her in dangerous matters, he would prioritize that.

"You want her to gather information about Doctor Lergen and Merlin?"

Mariel nodded. "More hands are always better," he said metaphorically. "Besides, I also want to know if Empress Lasyana is involved with demons. Aren’t you curious why there are so many demons in Neiracia?"

Celinee understood well enough that the number of demons in Neiracia was excessive. Compared to Camelot, there were likely more than ten times as many. Mariel already knew the reason. But Celinee didn’t. She didn’t know that Zagabob—one of the Super Demons under the Primordial Demon Levia—ruled over the demons in Neiracia.

"That is certainly worth questioning," Celinee muttered.

"But let’s set that aside for now. Help me deal with the remaining survivors."

Celinee frowned behind her mask. "You haven’t finished your part," she hissed.

"Hahaha. That’s why you should help me so we can leave quickly. We still need to find an inn. You don’t want to linger here any longer, do you?"

Contrary to Mariel’s words, Celinee grinned. "Do your job," she said before turning to escape. "I’ll find us an inn."

The half-demon woman didn’t wait for Mariel’s response. Nor did she listen to any complaints from him. She vanished in a puff of smoke, leaving behind a piece of wood of unknown origin. Ninjas were no less creative than mages.

Mariel let out a long sigh; he had no choice but to finish the job himself. However, he didn’t want to linger here any longer. He would complete his task without exploring every room. Mariel increased the density of the wind, causing the air pressure to rise exponentially.

Three minutes later, Mariel walked away. As he left, the large building began to collapse and crumble. The high air pressure not only destroyed internal organs and crushed bones, but the building itself was no exception.

-----ooOoo-----

It was late at night when Nico emerged from one of the high-class inns in the capital.

It was the seventh luxurious inn he had visited, yet none of them housed the person he was looking for. M hadn’t mentioned which inn he would stay at, but there was no doubt the masked man had already arrived in the city.

Nico let out a long sigh, exhausted. However, that exhaustion was quickly replaced with relief when his eyes accidentally caught sight of the figure he had been searching for. He wasn’t alone. But this time, it wasn’t Medea accompanying him. The masked man was with a woman who also wore a plain white mask like his.

Nico made his way toward them; they needed to talk.

"We’ll talk over a meal."

M spoke first before Nico even had the chance to open his mouth.

"Hmph, who’s this now? You’re doing something behind my back again. What’s the meaning of this, M?"

Nico wasn’t amused.

"You’re talking as if I’m cheating on you."

"You...you know that’s not what I mean! Who is he? What are you doing behind my back?"

"I’m not doing anything. Oh, he wants to destroy One Eye. My actions back then happened to help him out. And I didn’t mean to hide it from you, C. It’s your fault for not asking."

"How could I ask? You’re strong. I didn’t think you’d enlist anyone else’s help. Especially not against One Eye."

"You saw Medea. It wouldn’t be strange for you to ask who else helped."

"Tch. Would you have answered if I had?"

"What do you think?"

"Tch!"

Yep. Nico wasn’t amused at all. But the same couldn’t be said for M. Nico didn’t know much about the teenager, but even he could tell M was entertained by his partner’s reaction.

"How about you introduce yourself, Nico?"

Finally!

Nico had almost grown bored waiting for M to give him a chance to speak. Oh, of course, he could have spoken whenever he wanted. Nico was a free man. But that masked teenager wasn’t an ordinary individual. Young, yes, but his power was no joke. Nico didn’t want to risk angering him.

"My name is Nico."

Nico began to introduce himself. He didn’t go into detail. After stating his name, Nico explained how he and M had met. He also revealed that he was one of the leaders of Libertania. C was M’s partner; Nico didn’t think there was anything he needed to hide from her.

However, Nico only explained why he had sought out M after they were seated at a dining table on the first floor of the high-class inn. He informed the two masked individuals, especially M, that Girhamvell had agreed to a meeting.

"Girhamvell will reveal the meeting location tomorrow," Nico continued. "He’s worried you might be planning to trap him. I’ll come here tomorrow night. Make sure you’re here by then. I don’t know why you want to meet him, but I hope it’s not what Girhamvell fears."

After saying what he needed to say, Nico stood up immediately. He had already ensured the area was safe, which was why he could speak so freely. However, lingering here wasn’t a good idea either. Nico couldn’t shake his concern about Lasyana’s minions suddenly appearing.

"See you tomorrow."

Nico left right after uttering his farewell.

Celinee watched Nico leave with narrowed eyes. Just then, a servant arrived with their orders. After the servant left, Celinee shifted her gaze to Mariel. This time, her expression was sharper.

"I knew it. You’re planning something."

Mariel chuckled softly at his partner’s accusation. Celinee was far from stupid. She was also quite observant. There was no way the woman wouldn’t notice. Celinee must have drawn some conclusions when Nico mentioned why M wanted to meet Girhamvell.

"There’s nothing special; I’m just trying to do something good for the empire I was born in. You don’t have a problem with that, do you, Celinee?"
