Temporary bride for the demon overlord-Chapter 36: Little meeting
Seraphina stared at the slip of paper in her hand for the address. Yes, she’d gotten the address right and standing in front of the hotel made her jittery.
Initially when she got a text from someone Claiming to be Ryan, she had dismissed it as some sort of prank. Until the person suggested a meeting.
Giving herself a once-over in the reflection of her black Mercedes she giggled to herself.
Her black dress was tight and short, barely reaching her mid thigh. She had gotten her makeup done by professional.
All in all she looked like a woman who was preparing to get engaged.
At the thought of engagement, she stared at the gaudy diamond on her fingers and her mood soured.
Ethan had been...these days she wasn’t sure her interest in him was even romantic.
He had seem so desirable back then with his easy going charm, quick wit and swagger only him could manage to make it look masculine.
And most of all, he had been Karma’s. She had coveted him with everything she owned and vowed to make him hers.
Now that he was hers though, she saw all the flaws she couldn’t see from afar. His charming character now seemed to make him easy to bully, and that swagger make him look quite pathetic.
She sighed dramatically, and entered the building.
Her thoughts consumed with Ryan, she didn’t notice the flash of camera against the sunlight.
Inside, she found a dimly lit bar, the smell of smoke and tequila thick in the air.
"I’ll like a martini please," she ordered flicking her glance at the two men huddled in a corner.
She let her bunched shoulders relax, and her eyes surveyed the dark room tinged with orange and casting a sickly glow to all present.
Why would Ryan suggested to meet here? The low din of the murmurs with rough voice grated her nerves, each men had a dangerous glint in their eyes.
The hard set of their mouth told her this wasn’t a circle she was used to.
Finally, her eyes found him. Sitting in the corner with suit so black it seems to blend with the shadows.
There was something about him so commanding yet so alluring. Like sin coated in chocolate. It was probably in the way his wide shoulders were relaxed, his lazy thumbing of the shot glass, and air around him indicate he was above all.
And there was the most dangerous man in the room. She had an inkling he had seen her right from when she entered, the back of her neck prickled. But he did not even turn to look at her.
The men leered at her exposed flesh, some calling her obscenities. She gritted her teeth against the crawling of her skin and walked with her back straight and head held high.
"Ryan," she said by the way of greeting. There was no need for formalities in a place like this.
His eyes, ever mocking and amused_like he was laughing at something beyond anyone’s comprehension_even though his body never betrayed his emotion, surveyed her.
"Sera." His deep voice drawled causing goosebumps to erupt on her skin.
It slid over her, thick and slow like honey. She shook her head, her smile wobbling a bit.
"I trust you’re well?" The familiarity of his words made heat flooded her and she grinned abashedly.
This was the man Ethan was scared shitless of. He spoke of him in hushed voice, whispering and glancing at his back every three seconds like he was afraid the devil’s own self was chasing him.
As she spent more time in his presence, her feelings of Ethan wan in comparison to the blazing hot fire inside her.
She licked her lips as she stared at his sculpted jaw and the lips she was sure would taste like sin.
His gaze smothered her as he surveyed her from under his brow, a low chuckle escaped him.
The man sitting beside them lounged back, and stared hard at Seraphina, his brow shot up into his forehead. But Seraphina took no notice of her surrounding.
Her attention was consumed by the man in front of her, sleek, mysterious and dangerous.
"I must admit to being surprised at your insistence that we meet," she said in a mellifluous voice.
Ryan flashed a closed mouth smile, "would you like something to drink?"
"No." She declined the offer. Wanting to act a little haughty.
In her mind, she knew what this meeting was all about. After all, all men are the same and they only want one thing.
And she wasn’t a stranger to affairs such as this, it was how everything always seem to fall in place for her. She studied Ryan from beneath her eyelids and they commenced the silent game they were playing.
"You’re beautiful Seraphina. More than anyone I’ve ever laid my eyes on
" And he sounded like he meant the words too.
His eyes was fastened on the ruby that nestled just above her cleavage.
"You would say that wouldn’t you? You’re a man after all." She replied diffidently.
"I’m a man of few words," Ryan’s deep voice slid over her skin, tingles ran down her spine and she found herself riveted in his intense yellow eyes.
"But I like you Seraphina. I want you."
Seraphina finally allowed the triumphant smile to break free on her lips. She had him right where she wanted him.
She leaned forward almost thrusting her exposed flesh into his nose and tucked her hair behind her ears with all the coquette she could muster.
"Easy for you to say," she pouted, her fingers twiddling the diamond.
"What do you want?"
Seraphina hid her smile.
"In three months, the position of the CEO would be open. Karma and I are the most qualified for the position," her eyes burned passionately with hate and she left out the part where_Most of her accredited projects were Karma’s idea, "I want it. I want it more than anything. But I need powerful allies."
"An ambitious woman," he nodded sagely, "I can respect that. Is that all?"
Seraphina fought _and lost_ the urge to gasp. That’s all? Did he just ask her if that was all? That was the peak in her career and was further going to solidify everyone’s opinion that she was better than Karma.
Even if Karma had somehow managed to have acquired such a powerful husband.
"Karma’s husband will definitely be helping her too. And it’s not as easy as it’s sounds. The Huang corporation is a very old corporation and these things are done according to custom."
"Tell me more," Ryan demanded.
Seraphina startled at the hot delivery of the words, she stared at him askance.
"First, a CEO or in this case a CEO applicant must be married. They believe married people are much more responsible," she snorted. "And then there’s always merits and favoritism."
At Ryan’s raised brow, she shrugged listlessly. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
"What? It’s true. Favoritism plays quite a huge role. Then there’s voting and also percentage own in shares." She took a deep breath and stared at him.
"In three months you say? That should be enough time for me." He murmured in a low rich voice. He smirked evily at something that Seraphina couldn’t see.
"More than enough time for what?"
Ryan’s eyes turned sharp, though his voice was as amiable as ever, "Nothing to concern yourself about."
"Now that is said, would you like to go upstairs with me?" His tone was suggestive and he held out his hand.
Something_a flash of conscience perhaps _ made her hesitate. Would this count as cheating?
She was engaged to Ethan after all. She felt a prickling in the back of her neck, like she was being watched.
She stared around the room, each man seems immersed in whatever crook they were discussing. Only a few glanced at her. And it was just a fleeting glance.
Finally, she placed her hand in his much larger ones. He closed them around her and helped her up.
"I have a room reserved upstairs," he was saying, though Seraphina was only listening with half ear.
She thought she saw something flashed. A camera perhaps?
But who could it be? Surely, not any of the men who looked like they’ve been out of civilization for quite a long time.
She put the thought out of her mind and focused on the warm hands clasped around hers.
She wanted to giggle at the self assured way he lead her away. Slowly, the low murmurs became distant as they neared the room.
"I hope you’re hungry? I’ve prepared a feast." Ryan told her.
If the soft niggling of her conscience persisted, she told he
rself she was just nervous.
This wasn’t her first time sleeping with wealthy men to get whatever it was she needs, but something about Ryan gave her a start.
But the door to the huge room opened and all words died in her throat.
