The 1970s: Married First, Fell in Love Later-Chapter 91 - 90: Uninvited Guest
Yang Xiaoxia nodded happily. "Itβs all right, I guess!"
"Just all right?" ππ£πππ ππππ¨π―ππ.ππ¨π
Yang Xiaoxia shot Xue Yue a look. "Hey, Xiao Yueβer, youβve gotten mischievous. Fess up, what has your He Lang been teaching you?"
Xue Yue laughed. "What are you so shy about? Weβre both married women."
Yang Xiaoxia reached out and poked Xue Yueβs forehead. "Youβre so shameless."
Yang Xiaoxia picked Ruanruan up and gave the baby a big kiss on the cheek.
"Hey, be gentle! They say kissing them like that makes babies drool more."
Yang Xiaoxia paused. "Is that really a thing?"
Xue Yue nodded. That was indeed what Mrs. He had said.
Yang Xiaoxia chuckled. "I couldnβt help it, the baby is just too cute. Yueβer, you know, good genes from the parents are really so important."
"You and Zhen Dong have good genes too. You should have one soon," Xue Yue teased.
Yang Xiaoxia cooed at Ruanruan, saying, "Weβve definitely been thinking about it. When the time comes, I hope I can have a baby as cute as our little Ruanruan."
Xue Yue smiled. "Well then, you two better get to work."
Yang Xiaoxia let out a light huff.
Yang Xiaoxia stayed at Xue Yueβs place for a little while before He Zhendong came looking for her.
The couple exchanged a smile, and a blushing Yang Xiaoxia followed He Zhendong away.
Xue Yue sighed to herself. βWomen... theyβll ditch their friends for a man in a heartbeat.β
γIn the blink of an eye, Ruanruan was already three months old.γ
Lately, she loved being on her stomach. If you flipped her onto her back, she would slowly roll herself over again after just a little while.
Xue Xingzhou had a special stroller made for Ruanruan, one that could be adjusted for sitting up or lying down.
It was the first time Xue Yue had ever seen such a contraption. It was perfect for a small child and freed up your hands.
When the weather was nice, Xue Yue would put Ruanruan in the stroller and push her out for a walk.
She had just stepped out today when she saw a car drive into the village entrance.
Seeing Xue Yue, the driver rolled down the window.
The driver was visibly stunned when he saw Xue Yueβs face, but only for a moment.
"Hello, could you tell me how to get to the Educated Youth Point?"
Xue Yue pointed in the direction of the Educated Youth Point. "Just follow this road all the way to the end."
Xue Yue glanced into the car and could clearly see a woman sitting in the back, though she couldnβt make out her features.
"Thank you." The driver gave Xue Yue a deep look, then rolled up the window and drove off toward the Educated Youth Point.
Inside the car, Li Wanqing had only given Xue Yue a passing glance and hadnβt gotten a clear look at her face either.
The car drove all the way to the entrance of the Educated Youth Point before stopping.
A woman in black leather shoes and a long, gray trench coat stepped out. Her hair was styled in permed curls, and she was exquisitely dressed.
After getting out, she noticed some dirt on her black leather shoes and frowned.
Then, she looked at the courtyard of the Educated Youth Point with a hint of disdain.
Seeing someone come out, she asked, "Does Wang Shumin live here?"
Gu Yuwei looked her over a few times before nodding.
Li Wanqing smiled. "Comrade, could you please call her for me? Iβm her mother."
Gu Yuwei nodded, took a few steps inside, and yelled, "Wang Shumin, your momβs here!"
Wang Shumin quickly ran out of her room and hurried over when she saw Li Wanqing.
"Mom, what are you doing here? Did you come to see me?"
Wang Shumin was a little excited.
The other Educated Youths all stood at the doorway, watching the mother and daughter.
Li Wanqing smiled at the onlookers.
Then she said softly to Wang Shumin, "Iβm here on a business trip. Where is the cowshed? Take me there."
Hearing this, the smile on Wang Shuminβs face faded, but she didnβt dare defy Li Wanqingβs words.
"Itβs not far from here. Iβll take you."
Wang Shumin led Li Wanqing out of the Educated Youth Point.
When they reached the cowshed, Li Wanqing smoothed her hair before knocking on the door.
"Who is it?"
Mr. Guo opened the door. Seeing the two people at the entrance, he turned and called inside, "Guo Feng, someoneβs here for you."
Zheng Guofeng walked out. When he saw the people at the door, he narrowed his eyes.
Li Wanqing looked at Zheng Guofeng. His hair was dirty and messy, so long it almost covered his eyes, and he wore clothes covered in patches.
She could hardly believe it. βIs this really the same person from my memories?β
The person she remembered was always polite and well-mannered, with a constant hint of a smile that felt like a warm spring breeze entering your heart.
"Brother Guo Feng."
Zheng Guofeng looked at her coldly. "What are you doing here?"
Li Wanqing smiled and said, "Iβm here on a business trip and thought Iβd stop by to see you. How have you been getting on here?"
Zheng Guofeng gave a self-deprecating laugh. "Whether Iβm doing well or not is unimportant. What I want to know is, where did you get that suicide note you gave me back then?"
Li Wanqingβs pupils trembled slightly, but her expression didnβt change one bit.
"Brother Guo Feng, didnβt I already tell you back then? Whatβs wrong with you? So many years have passed. If my sister knew you still canβt let go, I donβt know how heartbroken she would be."
Zheng Guofeng stared at her intently. "Iβve forgotten. I want to hear you say it again."
Watching the two of them, Wang Shumin felt the tense atmosphere. βWhy does their relationship seem so different from what Mom said? Are they really just good friends who grew up together?β
Li Wanqingβs fingers twitched, but she spoke without a change in her expression. "Brother Guo Feng, are you sure you want to talk about this here? I can tell you whatever you want to know, anytime. But if you donβt believe me, thereβs nothing I can do. Must we be so hostile toward each other? Donβt you think I was heartbroken by my sisterβs death? She was my own flesh and blood, after all."
As Li Wanqing spoke, her eyes reddened, and her restrained expression made it seem as if she had suffered a great blow.
Zheng Guofeng watched her performance coldly, but didnβt expose her act.
"Wanyi is indeed dead, and you certainly should be heartbroken. After all, she always doted on you so much. Even in death, sheβll be watching you from heaven."
Li Wanqingβs expression instantly stiffened, and her gaze flickered.
"By the way, you probably donβt know this, but Wanyi had a daughter. She looks almost identical to her. Seeing her reminds me of the old days, back when Wanyi and I were dating. You were like a little shadow, always tagging along behind us. Whenever you got into trouble, she would be the one to fix it for you. Now Wanyi is gone, and youβre not that little girl anymore. Oh, speaking of which, as the wife of the Revolutionary Committeeβs vice-chairman, I suppose no one dares to cross you these days."
Li Wanqingβs hands clenched into fists as she stared at Zheng Guofeng.
"Zheng Guofeng, must you mock me like this? If it werenβt for me, you would have been assigned to a labor farm long ago! Why canβt you appreciate what Iβve done for you? Is your mind truly filled with nothing but those trivial little things from your past?"
Zheng Guofeng lowered his gaze and said softly, "You donβt understand. Between Wanyi and me, there were no βlittle thingsβ."
Li Wanqing said no more. She just gave Zheng Guofeng a few deep looks, then turned and left.
Seeing this, Wang Shumin quickly hurried after her.
Li Wanqing didnβt linger for a moment and got into the car.
"Letβs go back."
