The Alpha's Villainess Wife-Chapter 20 - 24 Hours
Malakai paced back and forth, along the hallway of the hospital. Stopping was only when the door of the ward which Eve had been admitted into, pushed open.
The beta doctor from earlier stepped out and approached him with a smile on his face.
"How is she?" he asked.
"She’s alright. Actually, she’s awake now and you can speak to her."
Malakai proceeded past him but then stopped. "What about...the pup?" he inquired. "Is..."
"Oh, yes." The doctor held a bigger smile. "The baby is alright. She’s four weeks in now and you need to be more careful."
Malakai nodded and made his way into the ward. He slowly shut the door behind him and glanced at the bed where Eve was, her gaze shifting towards him.
She watched him as he approached her and sat down on the bed. He stared at her and she peered back at him, neither of them saying a word. There was pure worry in his gaze—one she could see.
"Malakai—"
"How do you feel? Does it hurt anywhere?"
She shook her head at him. "No." Silence fell between the both of them and with trembling lips, she proceeded to ask, "Is...the baby, is it—"
"No." He was quick to shake his head at her. "Everything is fine. You’re fine and so is the pup."
"Are you...are you sure?" Her voice shook. "You’re not...lying to me right?"
Malakai cupped her cheek, his thumb rubbing her under eye. "Everything is fine, Eve. You’ll be discharged tomorrow, so you have nothing to worry about, alright?"
Eve nodded at him.
Her eyes followed him as he got up from the bed, but she grabbed his wrist, stopping him. The man glanced at her.
"My...father..."
"Eve—"
"We have to do something, Malakai. Please...I’m begging you."
Her expression was pleading. "I’m not asking, I’m begging. Please. Patro is a sadist and he’s going to hurt him more. We can’t do anything against him while he has my father. He might go too far, he might kill him. So...we have to get my father out of there first before we do anything else."
Malakai stared at her.
"Your phone," he said as he shoved his hands into the pocket of his sweat, picking out her phone he’d brought along. "If we’re going to get your father out, we need to know what Patro wants first. Maybe it can be negotiated?"
"Possibly," she agreed. "I’d rather we try it peacefully first."
He handed the phone to her. "Talk to him."
Eve collected the phone and swiped into her messages. The number had yet to block her, which meant Patro was expecting a response from her.
(Patro, I know it’s you)
[Of course, it’s me, sweetheart. Took you long enough to send a message. For a second there, I almost assumed you didn’t care about your father]
The response to her message came in immediately almost as if the man had been waiting for her.
She’d blocked his number right after she met Malakai and for Patro to go through the trouble of messaging her with a different new number, that meant he wanted something from her—something that he could only lure her into by using her father.
Eve lifted her gaze to Malakia who was watching her. She turned the phone over to him. "He wants something from me."
"Entertain him," Malakai said. "Let’s see what he wants."
(What do you want? Why did you do that to my father?)
The text bubble bounced right after she sent her message.
A laughing emoji followed right up. [Sweetheart, I warned you of what happens when you pull stunts with me. Did you think I was going to let you get away with setting me up? Did you forget I had your father here with me?]
(You’re not playing fair)
[Meaning what?]
(Using my father is simply cheating. Are you afraid of me? Of a small nobody of an omega like me, beating you? That’s pathetic, Patro. I thought you were confident in yourself. Real men don’t resort to petty tricks like you do)
The text bubble stayed still for a few seconds before it started bouncing.
[Don’t provoke me, Eve. Gambling with your father’s life is not a very wise choice]
She met Malakai’s eyes. The man had walked over, watching the conversation unfold. "Are you sure about this?"
"Mhm." She nodded. "Patro wouldn’t easily get rid of a bait like my father merely because I provoked him with words."
Then she proceeded to type back, (Give my father back to me, Patro)
[Bold of you to assume you’d just ask and I would comply]
(You want something from me)
[No, I don’t]
(Yes, you do. What is it? I’ll do anything, in exchange for my father)
A smiling emoji popped into the phone. [I suppose I could make a deal]
(What do you want?)
[Oh, common now, I’m not going to tell you over the phone. Where’s the fun in that?]
(What does that mean?)
[We’re going to have to see face to face, darling. I’ll send you the location. Come find me and we can make a deal]
She proceeded to type back but the text bubble began bouncing again.
[One more thing, Eve, come alone. Unless you don’t really care about dear old daddy. Location will be texted to you in 24hrs]
Right after the message, the number blocked her, and she lay, staring at the screen of her phone. Patro was insane.
Malakai eyed her. "You’re not planning on going alone, are you? Because I won’t allow it."
"Of course not!" Eve pulled herself up to a sitting position on the bed. "Trust a man like Patro at your own risk. Who knows what he’s going to do?"
"What about your father?" Malakai inquired.
She breathed out. "If there is one thing I’m sure of, it’s that Patro will hurt my father. But kill him? No, not yet. My father is still of use to him now and that’s why we’re going to have to save my father before he deems him useless."
"We have to be quicker than him."
