Chapter 1421: I'll Lead the Way

On the other side.

Under the hazy moonlight, Ling Feng and his group stepped straight into the thin layer of mist ahead.

The moment they entered its range, they finally understood why Yin Jian had ordered everyone to halt and wait until morning.

The mist did more than suppress elemental force. It also heavily restricted spiritual consciousness.

Everything ahead was blurred. Visibility dropped to nothing. In such conditions, danger could strike without giving them any time to react.

"These mists are strange. Yin Jian said nothing earlier. He clearly wanted to keep the advantage for himself so we would not steal their merit!"

Chu Tiange clenched his fists and quickly retreated out of the mist. Being inside it made him deeply uneasy.

"In that case, leaving the main group was the right call. Still, with just the few of us, surviving without understanding the Dead Soul Devil Abyss will be difficult. Finding the other barbarians will be even harder."

Xu Xinghe frowned. There was no easy choice. No matter what they chose, the weaker side would always be at a disadvantage.

"I brought you out, so I will take responsibility for completing the mission."

Ling Feng smiled faintly, completely confident.

The mist inside the Dead Soul Devil Abyss did suppress both spiritual consciousness and elemental force. However, it had little effect on his Boundless Vision. Its range was reduced, but only by about half.

"I feel reassured with what junior brother said."

Chu Tiange shook his head with a wry smile. As the team leader, he felt more like a man of straw.

Fairy Qingping was already stronger than him. Now it seemed Ling Feng had surpassed him as well.

"These mists are probably tied to nightfall. We should not push deeper right now. Let's find a place to rest and move at dawn."

Ling Feng thought it over and chose the safer approach. There was no need to travel through the night.

No one objected. They rested uneasily through the night. At first light, they set out again under Ling Feng's lead, heading deeper into the Dead Soul Devil Abyss.

Just as Ling Feng had expected, the mist dissipated during the day. Traveling became much safer.

In the blink of an eye, three more days passed.

By now, Ling Feng and his group had reached the edge of the core region of the Dead Soul Devil Abyss.

They were not far from their target according to the intelligence.

During these three days, a few strange demonic creatures had attacked them. All were dealt with quickly. They encountered no major danger.

Gradually, everyone began to trust Ling Feng. Even without Yin Jian, having Ling Feng lead them was enough.

"Haha, so this Dead Soul Devil Abyss is nothing special after all!"

After killing another demonic beast, Xu Xinghe was in high spirits. He gave Ling Feng a thumbs up.

"Junior Brother Ling, your perception is unbelievable. You can sense movements from dozens of miles away as if they are right in front of you!"

Ling Feng smiled lightly.

"I was born with strong perception. It is nothing worth mentioning. From here on, we must be more careful. The deeper we go, the longer the mist lingers. Based on my observations, the deepest parts of the abyss are likely shrouded in mist all year. That is where the real danger lies."

Hearing this, everyone's expressions turned serious.

This mission was far from simple. It was no wonder even Great Emperor level experts had fallen here before.

At that point, their cultivation had all been suppressed to less than thirty percent. Ling Feng was the least affected. Elemental force was only one aspect of his strength. With Dragon-Elephant Divine Strength, he could still contend with Extreme Human Emperor experts without falling behind.

Even so, his Boundless Vision had shrunk further. It now covered only about ten li.

Because of this, they slowed their pace again. No one wanted to stumble into a deadly zone by accident.

The next day, they arrived at the edge of a vast swamp lake.

The swamp stretched for thousands of li. According to the map, it cut through most of the Dead Soul Devil Abyss. Going around it would take at least half a month.

There was only one option. They had to cross it.

"Why not fly over it?"

Li Fei suggested. She glanced around, her expression tense.

"This place feels wrong. Such a fertile swamp, yet there are no birds at all. Something is hiding beneath."

Ling Feng nodded. "That's right. There are massive creatures beneath the swamp. With our strength suppressed, their brute force alone would be enough to tear us apart."

Fairy Qingping drew in a sharp breath. She silently marveled at Ling Feng's perception. Without him, charging through blindly would almost certainly lead to casualties.

"Junior Brother Ling, should we go around?"

Chu Tiange and Xu Xinghe tightened their grips on their weapons and looked to Ling Feng, waiting for his decision.

Without realizing it, Ling Feng had become the core of the group. Even Chu Tiange and Fairy Qingping now followed his lead instinctively.

Ling Feng smiled faintly.

"There is no way around it. Creatures like these cover the entire swamp. Their strength is at the Demon Emperor level."

"Gulp!"

Everyone swallowed hard. Sweat formed on their foreheads.

"Does that not mean certain death?"

At the same level, humans were already at a disadvantage against demonic beasts. In this place, their elemental force was suppressed. The beasts might also be affected, but they still possessed powerful physical bodies.

That raw strength was their greatest advantage.

How could they possibly cross this swamp?

"It is not necessarily a dead end."

Ling Feng's tone remained calm.

"I will take the lead. All of you follow behind me."

Everyone exchanged glances. Their eyelids twitched.

Right. There were monsters beneath the water.

But Ling Feng himself was like a beast too!

With Dragon-Elephant Divine Strength, he could clash head-on with demonic beasts. There was nothing to fear.

"Then be careful."

Li Fei bit her lip and looked at Ling Feng with concern.

"Junior Brother Ling, you must be cautious!"

Chu Tiange and Xu Xinghe were sweating slightly. Without Ling Feng, the remaining four of them would not survive even half a day in this place.

Fairy Qingping, as usual, could not help but add, "Ling Feng, do not forget. Your life belongs to Senior Brother Qin..."

Ling Feng shook his head with a helpless smile. This woman really would not let it go!

Still, the concern in her eyes was real. That much could not be faked.
