The Art of Chaotic Divinity-Chapter 1437: A Hairs Breadth from Disaster
After parting ways with Saint Lady Hui Yue, Ling Feng traveled at full speed. By noon of the second day, he finally reached the outer edge of the swamp lake.
Yin Jian had led the main team and needed a full four days to arrive here. Ling Feng spent only a little more than one day. The difference in their speed spoke for itself.
"I made it all the way here without running into Senior Sister Li Fei and the others. Could it be that they have already crossed this swamp lake?"
Ling Feng stopped before the swamp and thought to himself, "Once they pass through this swamp lake, Yin Jian can rely on the ability of his left eye. The dangers ahead should no longer be much of a concern."
"It seems I was overthinking things. No matter what, Yin Jian is still one of the elites of the Land of War. He really does have some ability."
Ling Feng felt somewhat reassured. He did not particularly care whether the others lived or died. However, he still valued teammates such as Li Fei and the others.
With a swift leap, Ling Feng entered the Hundred-Li Swamp region.
He fully activated Boundless Vision. His strength had increased greatly, yet he still could not afford to be careless in this danger-filled swamp.
About half an hour later, Ling Feng reached the middle section of the swamp region. The giant aquatic beasts around him grew increasingly vicious. With the Strength of Ten Dragons, however, he could deal with them easily. Most monsters fell with a single punch. Very few could withstand more than two strikes from Ling Feng.
"Hm?"
At that moment, Ling Feng suddenly heard a disturbance not far away. With Boundless Vision active, he quickly discovered that another team had encountered a giant monster within the swamp lake.
The creature wreaking havoc there was also an "old acquaintance" of Ling Feng!
When Ling Feng and his group had crossed the swamp lake earlier, they encountered a giant octopus monster. Ling Feng suppressed it with the fourth-phase Devouring Flame, which gave the group an opportunity to withdraw.
After Ling Feng and the others forced their way through, the octopus monster remained hidden in the middle of the swamp lake. It waited patiently for its prey to return so it could capture them all in one sweep.
Its patience had not been wasted. As expected, prey had arrived. This time the prey was even more plentiful than before.
When Yin Jian and his group led the main team into the middle section of the swamp lake, the monster began its attack.
Dozens of thick tentacles shot upward from the bottom of the lake. The disciples had no time to react. In a single instant the tentacles wrapped around them tightly and dragged them toward the swamp lake.
The water inside the swamp carried extremely potent toxins. Even the elemental qi shields of those disciples could not last long. Once the poison entered their bodies, death would likely follow.
Yin Jian, Feng Shaoan, and several others reacted slightly faster. They severed the tentacles attacking them with a single strike of their swords. Soon afterward, however, countless tentacles swept toward them from every direction. They quickly found themselves overwhelmed.
"Damn it! When we passed through here before, we never encountered such a powerful monster!"
Yin Jian frowned deeply while swinging his sword in a frenzy. The dense mass of tentacles fell one after another under his blade. A sense of despair rose in his heart. Could it be that their entire group would truly die here?
Chu Tiange cut through the tentacles coiling around Fairy Qingping. She had already been poisoned by demonic venom and could barely resist. Even with Chu Tiange and Li Fei assisting her, the situation made it clear that the octopus monster would capture them sooner or later.
As for Xu Xinghe, he had already been dragged into the swamp by the monster. His life or death remained unknown.
"Damn it. That monster again!"
Fairy Qingping forced herself to swing her sword. She clearly recognized the creature. On that day the same monster attacked them. Ling Feng toyed with it before they escaped. The creature must still harbor resentment, which explained why it lurked here and waited for prey to fall into its trap.
"If we had Junior Brother Ling's flames, we could restrain this monster!"
Chu Tiange kept cutting through the tentacles before him. At the same time he had to divide his attention to protect Fairy Qingping. After dozens of strikes, the web between his thumb and forefinger had gone numb from the impact.
Outside this place, a monster like this would never have troubled him with his strength.
"Ah!"
"No... no! I don't want to die!"
"My heavens! If I had known this would happen, I would never have come to the Dead Soul Devil Abyss!"
Screams continued to echo through the swamp. Each cry was followed by a splash as another disciple was dragged into the swamp by the octopus monster. Once someone fell into the water, their chances of survival dropped sharply.
Cold sweat streamed down Yin Jian's forehead. In this situation he could do nothing. He could only watch as one companion after another was dragged underwater. At the same time he struggled desperately to fend off the overwhelming mass of tentacles before him. He could not even locate the true body of the octopus monster.
Feng Shaoan's situation was no better. He carried the title of the strongest expert beneath the level of the Great Emperor. The title sounded impressive. Within the Dead Soul Devil Abyss, however, his elemental force was heavily suppressed. Even if he possessed countless divine skills, he could not unleash them.
He still held other trump cards, yet he did not dare to use them recklessly. One monster had already pushed them to their limits. If other creatures were drawn here as well, the consequences would be unimaginable.
An atmosphere of despair spread across the entire swamp lake. They had encountered the greatest crisis so far. The situation offered almost no chance of survival.
"Fairy Qingping!"
Chu Tiange cried out in alarm. A tentacle shot toward Fairy Qingping's chest with ruthless force. The creature clearly intended to pierce straight through her heart.
Fairy Qingping noticed the attack, yet her current condition left her unable to react in time. The sharp tentacle rushed toward her chest and was about to tear open a bloody hole. Li Fei hurriedly swung her sword to block the strike and attempted to sever the thick tentacle.
A moment later a wet tearing sound echoed behind her. A thinner tentacle had crept silently behind her back. It pierced through her left shoulder from behind and left a bloody hole.
"Pfft!"
Li Fei spat out a mouthful of blood. Her body collapsed weakly and fell from the air. Several tentacles immediately wrapped around her as they tried to drag her into the water.
"You wretched beast. You still dare to come out and cause trouble!"
At that critical instant, lightning flashed through the air. A white figure shot forward like a bolt of lightning and seized Li Fei before the tentacles could drag her away.
The figure slung Li Fei over one shoulder with a single arm. Then it threw a punch. The force of the strike erupted like a blood-colored dragon and shattered several tentacles into pieces.
Blood poured down like rain. A furious roar spread upward from the depths of the lake. The octopus monster thrashed wildly beneath the water and stirred waves that towered into the sky.
"Junior Brother Ling!"
Li Fei rested over Ling Feng's shoulder. She could not see his face. The moment she heard his voice, however, she immediately recognized him and cried out with joy.
"It's me."
Ling Feng set Li Fei down and glanced at the bloody hole in her shoulder. His brows knit together. He quickly tapped several points near her left shoulder to seal the blood vessels and stop the blood that was still spraying from the wound.
